Yoo-hoo, Storn! The forums are working again...for now!

Male HP 62, AC 19, Touch 14, FF 16, F9/R11/W5, CMD 19 Halfling alchemist 10

Going to bot Storn; with the website troubles, we don't need anymore holdups.

Storn moves forward toward the s!!& creature and strikes with Gorum's Thorn.

Gorum's Thorn: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 - 2 = 19
2d6 + 12 ⇒ (5, 5) + 12 = 22

Yeah, I was planning on doing the same once I could get back online. And...we're back online for now

Gm screen:

cmb 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

The dwarf tried to say something, but it was garbled and mangled, as if the creature hadn't used its voice in a very long time. The dwarf was rocked by Sander's bomb, but it shook off the effects in time to avoid Storn's swing. He ignored Kipa, stepping back to slam his spear hard into Storn's exposed armpit. The longspear tore deeply into the warpriest's chest, and Storn felt his breath come short and painful as his lung was pierced. The dwarf turned the spear, which hooked in under Storn's flesh and held him at spear length.

You have the time to get a good look at the creature now, and it is a dwarf. A scarred, mutilated, crazy-eyed dwarf. The spear he carries is twelve feet of well-worm ash fitted with a menacingly cruel 2-foot-long barbed iron head. His right hand is made of silver, and it sits on the stump of an arm that looks as if it was chewed off. The mere look of the creature is enough to turn your bowels to water. and even as you watched, the frostburns began to heal.

Then, the effects of Molly's spell went off, and the impaled Storn grew to the size of a giant.

K. Local DC23:

Judging from the tortured scars and mutilated flesh, this is a broken soul. A creature of pain and torment incarnate.

Round 1-2:

Everyone must make a DC 13 Will save or take 1d4 ⇒ 4 Str, Con, and Cha DRAIN!!!

Storn takes a critical hit for 53 damage and is Grappled.

Then came the thunder and fury of Sander's bombs. They exploded on the dwarf, singeing him and opening deep rents in his skin, but the fire wasn't as effective as it could have been, and once more Sander watched as the wounds partially healed before his very eyes.

The dwarf yanked back hard, and Storn lurched as the barbed spear tore itself from his chest. Then, he felt it enter his stomach as the dwarf used the man's new height to get a better angle on things.

Sander had a better angle and managed to splash acid all over the dwarf, and Kipa too, but while the halfling cried out in pain, the acid did no damage to the warf. Then, Kipa drove his rapier into the dwarf's back, but the blade skittered off the armor. Storn wrapped a giant hand around the spear shaft, holding it in place, no matter how the dwarf yanked and pulled.

Snarling, the dwarf dropped the butt of the spear and drove forward with his silver hand, sinking it into one of the holes in Storn's stomach. The giant man feels an agony rippling through his abdomen, and the pain is horrific. The dwarf smiled as he watched Storn's limbs begin to quiver and shake as the big man fought off convulsions. the wound in the dwarf's neck was almost completely heal by now, the scarred and mottled skin growing back together before your very eyes. Then, Molly finished chanting and her summoned ally appeared.

Round 4-5:

Storn receives a total of 12 healing

Storn takes 7 damage from the tortuous hand and must make a DC15 Fort save or fall to the ground in convulsions for 3 rounds and take 4 Dex damage.

Storn felt the dwarf fall limp in his fist as the bombs and arrows sailed in. The figure was dead, and yet his wounds were still closing. Then, Molly's archon ally appeared and roasted the dwarf with celestial energy. The dwarf's tortured body went rigid, then rapidly began to rot and turn to dust. Storn flung the remains away from him as rapid decomposition did its work, leaving nothign but a pile of dust and some bone fragments amidst the dwarf's clothing and jewelry. Among the remains, you can clearly see the silver hand, fingers splayed wide.

"Right, then," Molly says. She coughs once, then salutes the archon. "Top job! Please give my best to the Upper Planes, and many thanks. I release you from my summons."

As soon as the archon has returned to its home plane, the Witch casts detect magic on the undead Dwarf's remains.

"Wow," Sander says. "That poor dwarf. I guess we'll never know what happened to him."

He awaits Molly's word on the hand.

Molly, why don't you roll Spellcraft?

dwarf loot:

  • large longspear (magic)
  • elaborately braided dwarven beard (likely Nargrym's) with 3 gold rings and an engraved platinum beard clasp in the shape of a castle sitting atop a cloud
  • silver hand (magic)

  • Male HP 62, AC 19, Touch 14, FF 16, F9/R11/W5, CMD 19 Halfling alchemist 10

Sander waits as the others sort out the remaining loot.

"So I guess we should go back to Trunau now, and let them know we found it and what happened. And we have to get this stupid thing off my head!" he says.

    "BWAAAHARARRHGHHH!!!!"

Storn roars, pulling back a mailed fist which he swings with great satisfaction into the dwarf's face before the dwarf gets zapped by the archon. Groaning, Storn falls onto his face, getting gross s**&monster dust all over him. He lets out a slow wheeze.

"I was lying. I haven't had worse. Owwww...."

Gallantly, Storn assumes the feotal position and grabs his wand, draining a huge amount of magical energy to heal himself.

Quill waits for Storn to finish his ‘spellcrafting’, admiring the technique of yelling at the weapons until they verbally spoke their secrets. It was a method he hadn’t seen before and was actually hoping it might end with results, but sadly no.

[b]"Shes right Storn. Take a moment and breath.. and maybe get that dwarf off your hand?"[b]

Sorry for the silence. I got sent on an emergency work trip and things have been a little crazy.

Molly lived up to her reputation as an artifact hunter, easily identifying the items from both lore and magical properties. The spear and hand were obviously the ones carried by Nargrym in the frescoes painted and carved around the tomb. That meant that the spear was Heartspit, a large giant-bane spear crafted to hold giants at bay while the wielder killed them. The hand was what gave Nargrym Silverhand his nickname, and was one of the most famous artifacts in the history of the Mindspin mountains. Most dwarfs in the area would shave themselves bald, put on long ears, and call themselves elves for the chance to even touch the hand, much less own it.

    Heartspit:

Fitted with a menacingly cruel 2-foot-long barbed iron head, this Large +1 giant-bane longspear can skewer an opponent, lodging beneath the flesh and holding fast. On a confirmed critical hit with the spear, Heartspit’s wielder can attempt a combat maneuver check to grapple the target as a free action. This grapple attempt does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the target if that creature is not threatening the wielder. While grappling a creature with Heartspit, the wielder can move or damage the target with the spear only on the wielder’s turn. The wielder is still considered grappled, though he does not have to be adjacent to the target to continue the grapple. If the wielder ends the grapple or the target successfully breaks the grapple, the target takes 4d6 points of slashing damage as the spear’s barbed head is ripped free.

    Silver hand:

Forged from solid steel, this magically animated prosthetic hand is elaborately sculpted down to the finest detail. Nargrym’s steel hand can be used to replace the normal hand of a humanoid creature—it can’t be worn in addition to an already existing hand. When attached to the wrist stump of a living humanoid creature, Nargrym’s steel hand magically forms a permanent bond to the wearer’s flesh and nerves. Once the hand has bonded to the wearer’s wrist, the wearer gains full control over the hand as if it were part of his own body. The hand has a full range of motion and functions as a normal hand. While worn, Nargrym’s steel hand grants its wearer a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength (treat this as a temporary ability bonus for the first 24 hours the hand is worn) and a +5 bonus to CMD against disarm attempts. In addition, the wearer can wield weapons of one size category larger than the wearer’s size without penalty and without altering the weapon’s designation as a light, one-handed, or twohanded weapon. For example, a Medium creature wearing Nargrym’s steel hand could wield a Large longspear as a two-handed weapon without penalty. However, whenever the wearer of the hand is within line of sight of a creature with the giant subtype, he must succeed at DC 15 Will save or be compelled to attack the giant, as suggestion. Once bonded to a wearer, Nargrym’s steel hand cannot be removed except by the wearer or after the wearer’s death.

So, where to now? Remember that your mission was to go to the tomb to find weapons to use against the giants, then disrupt the Storm Tyrant's plans however you could. You have the map to where the Storm Tyrant is gathering his forces.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Sander looks disturbed.

"Does anyone want that hand? I mean I've heard dwarves would give their ... er, hand ... to have it, but none of us are dwarves..."

He looks at Storn, figuring the big man will likely take it, but wincing at what it would involve.

"I guess if someone wants it, we should wait for them to heal. In fact, maybe Storn needs some more time to recover here and then I guess we should go find the Storm Tyrant's forces?"

I assume/recall there's no real place to sell/buy gear en route, so I guess we'll just hold on to it.

Storn grins at Molly, showing his gross jagged teeth. "You know full well I can just chop my arm off and you'll have one solution. I'll pray on it.
