Ibid. Oxley Abel |
So to recap, Ibid, like herpes, will rise once again to cause irritation and uncomfortableness to all involved. Now back to our story.
This is an unkind, though not unfair, comparison :)
@ Everyone: Okie dokie, let's get this game back on track. Love is the coal that makes this train roll. We're all good. Time to kick the rest of this adventure in the arse.

Wow. That was absolutely harrowing to watch happen. Huge props to everyone for slamming down some GREAT RP through it all. Seriously, most groups might blow their top at such a harsh conclusion to a fight but you folks are awesome. Fantastic if gut-wrenching to watch.
Too soon, man. Too soon :)

Awkward...

Important safety lessons we've learned.
1) Always have a scroll of Breath of Life available at this level (damnit, why didn't I have one?)
2) When confusion is taking over, and you get an action... move yourself away from any allies... throw your weapons away, do whatever you can do so that you do no harm (not criticizing Cyrus, but learning from the experience)
3) Don't have a low AC, low CON, and low HP all at the same time!
4) Will saves are the most important saves!

This one is definitely on me, and the decision I will make moving forward. I am exceedingly bummed that my brilliant idea to trick the GM into attack the confused guy didn't work. Had it worked, throwing my weapon away wouldn't have been necessary.
Well it did work... just apparently doesn't work on [redacted] naturally invisible creatures.

/sigh
Cyrus the Flea |
Since we get a chance to buy stuff, in addition to paying for part of Ibid's rez, Cyrus is going to sell his daredevil boots and amulet of natural armor, and buy boots of elvenkind and a mind sentinal medallion.
Also a scroll of see invisibility with 5 castings on it for 2pp
I'll get a headband of wisdom with the gold from the chronicle after the scenario is over.
I'll try to make sure my profile is up to date tomorrow, or at least before we get into our next encounter.
Gunari Maximoff |
Scold for see invisible? Why not... There are no restrictions on what you can put on a scroll... (Mostly). You can also have wands of personal spells (shield is very common, as is gravity bow).
Gunari Maximoff |
If we have time, I am spending the gold for a scroll of Breath of Life, assuming that GM Bold Strider allows scrolls in spring loaded wrist sheaths.
Also, guys, everyone can get these scrolls... We can split them between myself, Lort, and Cyrus (who can use UMD to cast the scroll).
Another amazing item are Healing Gloves (from PFS Primer). 2 castings of BoL for 4500 gp, I believe, without having to be able to cast the spell.
GM Bold Strider |
Sorry, I meant the multiple castings on a scroll, not See Invisibility itself on the scroll.
As for scrolls in a spring-loaded wrist sheath, I don't particularly mind, though it is a contentious issue on the boards, so be prepared for me to change my mind if some sort of official stance is taken by Paizo on it.
Gunari Maximoff |
I believe the scroll thing is called out in the guide to organized play... They just have to be the same spell.
Lort |
Actually, it's in the FAQ:
Honestly, Lort was always going to pick up a scroll of breath of life after Keith saved him... but then Keith played with us while I was running Haafiz (who now has said scroll) and I forgot about it. I also forgot to grab the swarmbane clasp. It's 3,000 and Lort has pretty much exactly 3,000 left. I think I just forgot to hit 'buy' in Hero Lab. I'll pick one up now, but I want to check on a ruling first:
---
Lort will wear both an amulet of natural armor and a swarmbane clasp at the same time. They are both neck-slot items. Only one will be active (the first one donned based on my best interpretation of the wording I've found), and for the most part this will be his amulet of natural armor. What action is it to switch out?
When a character wears a slotted wondrous item he cannot gain the benefit from a wondrous items of the same slot until the first item is removed.
Which means I just need to remove an item of clothing, right? Similar to unstrapping a shield (move action)? I'd assume then that, so long as Lort has a free hand, he could remove the amulet of natural armor as a move action (thereby activating the swarmbane clasp) and then dropping the amulet of natural armor as a free action.
---
That would allow me to, for example when we encounter a swarm, sacrifice my natural AC bonus for the ability to do full damage to the swarm as a move action, and then ready an attack.
I think RAW supports it, but if it is too cheesy - please let me know (GM and players). That said, I know my spring-loaded medlance potion heal in a swift+move action while on -ve HP is quite cheesy, but it's saved some serious butt twice now. Still got 8 butt-saves left before it's useless! I encourage all of you Trial By Machiners to grab one for similar uses.
Lort has will sell his +1 cold iron greatsword to pay for his share of Ibid's rez, the scroll of breath of life and a replacement potion of cure serious wounds with 2 PP.
As for the wrist sheath, the day a scroll is deemed to be something other than a forearm-length item (as per the wrist sheath description) is the day I bring a scroll to every PFS game to show people its size as compared to the size of 5 arrows. They get an arrow in the butt (up to 5 times) every time they disagree with me.
Cyrus the Flea |
Here is the FAQ entry answering that question.
Here is the discussion thread where Michael Brock addresses the issue, which turned into the above linked FAQ entry. You will notice he says "no" initially, and then after it is clarified, says yes, and blames being tired for answering incorrectly. :)
Edit: Cyrus'd by Lort!
Cyrus the Flea |
Quick note: DON'T SELL ANY GEAR TO PAY FOR IBID'S REZ!!!
Per the PFS Season 7 Guide: "PCs may use the rewards from the Chronicle sheet they earned in order to resolve any conditions, such as death."
The way I read that, we can use the gold we earn on this chronicle sheet to pay for the raise dead. IE: the accounting takes place at the end of the scenario.
No reason to sell anything.
Cyrus the Flea |
Well as long as you have other reasons, don't let me stop you :) Just didn't want anyone to sell anything they might need and lose that 50% sell back value.
Gunari Maximoff |
Lort, there is an older SKR posting about the amulets. I could search for it, once i have a chance this morning... work comes first
Finarin Moonstep |
So it seems that we are in the midst of a retool, I don't have a lot of time the rest of this week for crunching things up.
So selling my Amulet of natural armor +1 for 1,000 gp. It seems that it conflicts with my Ageis of Recovery, which is more important than the +1.
So I have about 3K left.
I will buy Quick Runner's shirt, 1000 gp, medlance 500gp and potion of cure moderate 300. Leaves me plenty of gp for Ibid res.
I will get the stats updated tonight.
Gunari Maximoff |
Quickrunner's shirt is not allowable for PFS
Finarin Moonstep |
Oops. Thanks Gunari. It was fun while it lasted.
So I have a body eyes and head slot open.
Besides saving for a Jingasa, any good ideas?
Gunari Maximoff |
Do you use a good number of swift actions? If so, a Corset of Delicate Moves (I think that's the name) can allow you to change a move action into a swift, once per day. Otherwise, an Unfettered Shirt is never out of fashion.... it allows you to have Freedom of Movement for 10 minutes, once per day. Costs 10K, but well worth it.
Also, picking up scroll of BoL (or Gloves of Healing) would be a great idea! And what Lort said about the medlance.
@Lort Sean K. Reynolds was part of the PDT, so yes.
Finarin Moonstep |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
medlance 500gp and potion of cure moderate 300.
Change that to Cure Serious Wounds for 750.
Sold 1000, bought 750+300=1,050.
Current gp 1811.65

YYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSSS
Thanks Lort!
OK - For the people who haven't been with this group since the beginning, I just went on an incredibly enjoyable trip through time, back to when we used to do bar scenes and were beginning our fledgling pathfinder careers together, inspired by the appearance of Sheeba. I absolutely link-blasted the thread in my last post (in response to Sheeba). Sorry I'm not sorry for link blasting. :)
For those of you who are interested in following those links (all of you, new to the group or not) You MUST scroll up a bit to take in the full context and hilarity of those scenes. The posts I linked to were appropriate in context to the post I just made, but it all makes more sense if you read them from the beginning (except the very last one)
The first two links go back to the thread leading in to our Hall of the Flesh Eaters game. Might as well start at the beginning of that one, because that was simply one of the best bar scenes we have done. Fantastic job by Damo (Lort) in setting that little game up.
However - before you do that, you should click on the third link, and read that puppy from the beginning as well. That was our opening scene together as a group (with Damo/Lort as our GM). It is the quintessential, defining scene for this group and the year and a half that has followed. Everyone who is involved with this group should read that bar scene, and I especially recommend re-reading it to our players. Its a really nice palate cleanser! Good for refocusing on why we are here to begin with.
Also, selfishly, that is the scene that began the crazy spiral that started Cyrus' side of Cyrus and Ibid's background story. It is also what inspired the two of us to combine our stories, and eventually lead to the epic scene posted in the zedroom gameplay thread.
The fourth link is even further back in the timeline, Cyrus and Ibid's first scenario together. (before we met this amazing group) Scroll up a few posts for the real beginning of that exchange for proper context. That is the moment I realized that Cyrus was going to be incredibly awkward around women.
Kinda like the real version of me.
Love you guys.

Happy birthday, GM Bold Strider!
Gunari Maximoff |
Thank you everyone.
As a note to all, I was contacted by the VC of Online Play and he authorized a free resurrection for Ibid, so no costs will be associated with the raising of Ibid. (In fact, Ibid could choose to have not died at all if that is what he wished.)
Thank you, GM Bold Strider. I think that is the fairest thing to have done. We can keep the story done, and let this be a lesson learned.
Lort |
I kind of like the RP we did after the death, so (if Ibid is okay with it) we should keep it as a story element. I really enjoy what things like that do for the party dynamic (see previous post of Lort obliterating Cyrus with a bench... and his subsequent compassion towards the Keleshite here).
Of course, being okay with the death for RP purposes pre-supposes that Ibid has no negative levels now. Is that right?
Finarin Moonstep |
Bit of housekeeping here.
First - did we rest or not? That has an impact on my resources. Level 2 spell back, 3 Arcane Pool Points, my Pearl of Power back, and possibly a new spell for me. Whatever the group decides though is fine. Just want to know what I have to work with.
Second - there are Operating procedures that we would like to put in place, if it is ok? Things that are common place at a Face to Face table, but take up valuable time over PbP. For instance, before entering any potential room, all of our characters would make a Perception Check, which is a move action. I would also cast Detect Magic which is a standard.
Obviously, there are times when this isn't an option, for instance when coming off an elevator in a surprise round of combat, but if this is going dungeon crawly, then can we do this? Like when we enter a new room.
Third - As we are forewarned about the magical energies here, it only makes sense that Amaranti & I (and others) would study the magical effect that we see. As such, can I make an Kn Arcana check or Spellcraft here, and is this something that you would like us to declare, or will you notify us if we are able to utilize a skill?
GM Bold Strider |
1) Ibid has no negative levels.
2) I am under the impression that you did not rest after the fight, however you are free to do so.
3) If you are going to have a SOP, then that's fine. I just need to know what it is exactly. So far, I have A) Always make a Perception for everyone, if possible, before entering a room. (Finarin will Detect Magic); B) Kn. Arcana when spotting magical effects for Amaranti and Finarin.
If this is it, then please post Kn. Arcana mods for Amaranti and Finarin, so I can be lazy and don't have to browse profiles. :D
Finarin Moonstep |
Light - will cast light if my low-light vision is hampered.
Spellcraft +23 to identify an item; Kn Arcana +15.
I would be happy to provide you with any other mods you need.
I HATE to look up players skills, especially ones with crummy profiles. Feel the pain
I would have liked to rest. Since we stared a new phase I will not alter my prepared spells.
Cyrus the Flea |
I am indifferent on rest - if it helps Finarin then I am all for it. I don't suppose we will know if it affects the story negatively, so we might as well err on the side of caution and rest.
Cyrus' SOP:
Cyrus will spend a point of ki to gain darkvision for 1 hour. Weapon will remain drawn.
Cyrus will take 10 on stealth for a 29. (unless it is impossible due to lighting conditions - ie Cyrus won't try to be sneaky in the middle of a brightly lit room)
Perception upon initially entering a room - take 10 for 21. (i'm through with chumping those rolls)
Cyrus will be the point man should any traps be discovered - +19 on DD rolls (which you can make for me, or I will make if you ask)
By RAW - taking 20 on a perception takes 1 minute. (20 move actions = 10 rounds @ 6 seconds per round = 1 minute) After the intial perception and detect magic from the group, unless there is a specific reason not to (ie an enemy or someone already found something) then Cyrus will take 20 on perception for a 31.
Let me know if there are any issues with that!
Gunari Maximoff |
Cyrus, just to let you know... there are always negative effects from using intimidate.
After the Intimidate expires, the target treats you as unfriendly and may report you to local authorities.
So, while it might be good for short term goals, you should use it judiciously. That's partially why Gunari's focused so much on Diplomacy (+18 I think is pretty damned good with a CHA10. He had to replace Miro, after all. I should remember to take-10 more often with that, actually!
Cyrus the Flea |
I don't generally view the target treating me as unfriendly as a negative effect. I was referring more to mechanical negative effects. It is almost never the right thing to do in a situation.
I just think it should be more often.
Just my personal opinion! :)
Gunari Maximoff |
As for rest, I think I was in the camp that I was ok, mostly because I am only down a couple of spells (though invisibility purge is important, we can work around it).
As for SOP, Gunari takes a drink every hour... not enough to get him drunk, but still enough to trigger his fortified drinker trait (that's the +2 vs mind effecting).
On daily basis, he will end the day by channeling all his remaining fervors into his chalices.
Other than that, Gunari is honestly not much about preparing. His attacks will always by Power Attack (unless I say otherwise), and he will always use vital strike if he only gets a single attack.
@Cyrus, do you have Eyes of the Eagle yet? I believe that they are 3500gp, and they give you a +5 on perception. Eyes of Minute Seeing are also really good, because they give you +5 on disable device. You can just swap the two when you detect traps.
Cyrus the Flea |
Still working on my pitiful will save...

Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@ GM Bold Strider: I'm totally cool with continuing to RP that Ibid died. We can just work it into our ongoing group narrative and find a way to tie it together with Cyrus and Ibid's backstory. No worries at all from me.
Amaranti |
Amaranti can detect magic, but he can only guess what kind of magic it is :) I.e. No ranks in kn Arcana or Spellcraft.
Amaranti will be riding Kaisharga. He could cast extended communal resist energy on us all. Any suggestions for energy type? Fire?
