Horizon Walker's Terrain Dominance

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I was working on a Warden(UM) Ranger to go into the Horizon Walker PrC, however I had a question about the Horizon Walker's ability, Terrain Dominance . Specifically about how they can use their favored terrain bonus as a favored enemy bonus against creatures native to that terrain.

My question stems from the bestiary's listing of monsters by terrain, should I consider this list to be examples or an exclusive list of creatures. That being, do I only get that bonus against creatures the Bestiary says are native to that terrain.

My final question and I guess you could say "the cheese" is this: are Humanoids considered native to the urban terrain or am I only limited to what the bestiary has listed?

I think this is more GM decision territory, with monsters by terrain being examples.

I am wondering if there is better clarification on this class trait. To me, just because your good at killing a giant spider in the forest doesn't mean you're good at killing one in a cave.

I strongly suggest talking to your GM ahead of time before playing a horizon walker. Native to terrain isn't a game term, so what it works on will be entirely up to GM fiat. Also, horizon walker is easy to break in a game set around one terrain type, like an underwater game, or a darklands game. Don't wait until level 9 when you get it to suddenly spring on your GM that you get +14 to hit and damage against any underground creature.

It's one of those classes that's fun in theory, but so easy to break the math of the game with.

Warden ranger 3/true primitive bbn 1/commando gunslinger 2. Gives you 4 favored terrains before hitting horizon walker. (There's various other archetypes that work too). Three levels of horizon walker gives 2 more terrains. Add in boots of friendly terrain, and your dominance bonus is +14 at level 9. So you go first, can't miss, and do obscene damage. and suddenly you find the campaign move to never be in your chosen terrain ever again and nothing you fight is native to it.

Holy crap.
