Whoops, follow-up question. The direct route back to Fort Kazmir would be heading north (through an unexplored area), the area you were warned about. Do you want to do that or go through areas you know, which would probably add a couple hours to your trip?

Edrukk, you may want to doublecheck your skills. I was copying your perception into my fake-macros (i.e. something I can copy and paste) and your perception total is still five. You seem to have forgotten to add the new skill rank in. I didn't check the rest of the skills, but perception's definitely not right.

Orin, your perception check is also what I had for you in my fake-macro at level 1, but I don't have the math, so it's possible I could have just had it wrong.

I haven't updated the online profile yet, Will probably get to it tomorrow.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I'll double check my numbers.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hey guys, it seems to be a month since Draelen has been online, so I sadly think I'm going to take the opportunity of being at the fort to write him out.

This is probably the easiest point to add another character if we're so inclined (I'll probably look through some of the other recruitment threads and see if anyone catches my eye or can post my own). Would you rather continue with six players or just stick with what we've got? I'm easy either way.

Also, FWIW, I think I've got some good role-playing stuff planned for your visit to the fort, though it may take me a little while to write up a slightly longer post. Work's been a bit strange this week, but I'm hoping I'll have time tonight to get a bigger post up -- though I may delay it a bit if you indicate you'd like to add someone else in. In the meantime, feel free to interact with the denizens of the trading post as I can easily do short bits of conversation throughout the day ... except for during my impending trip to see the final Hermione Granger flick.

Personally I think we're good with what we have now, but I'l go with the majority descision. That way if he should return we can drop him back in.

I think we should keep going as we are. I think we're doing quite well.

Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey

Hmm...bard, cleric, ranger, rogue, and witch. Sounds like a decent party to me. Unless anyone thinks we're lacking in a key area, I'm good with the line up.

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

I'm okay to continue on. Also, I will be going on a road trip starting on Monday and will be gone for 2 weeks. I will have periodic internet access along the way, but if I disappear for 2-3 days at a time that would explain why. Sorry for any inconvenience, please either DMPC my character or somebody could run my actions if they'd like.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Patrik, how old is Treshiell?

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

Okay, I'm taking off this morning. I'll post whenever I can, but please don't hesitate to run my character during combat or other important situations. I might have access to the internet within the next day or two, otherwise it will probably be several more days. Have fun, I'll miss the game!

motteditor wrote:

Haven't thought about it. I'd say seventeen, pushing eighteen within a month of so.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Sorry Treshiell (and all). Work's gotten very busy this week, so I may be a little slow until after the weekend (when I've got family visiting). I'll try to post at least a short something soon.

No problem, i was just keeping the thread warm :)

We did not only loose a cavalier when Draelen rode out of the fort, we lost a mapper as well. I handle the map in the PnP kingmaker game i'm in, so i guess i can pick up that job here as well. As long as it doesn't require any technical skills. How did you and Draelen handle it, Motteditor?

Second question: Do we have a lootlist and a manager for said loot list?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I sent Draelen a Photoshop file of the map, with various hexes blacked out. Then he would just delete the black hex layer on top of the map and post it. Honestly, it's not a problem for me to just put it up if that doesn't bother anyone. I don't know that it really detracts/adds to the play experience in this case to have someone doing it digitally. But I'm happy to send you the file if you'd rather.

I believe Edrukk had the lootlist, at least he did earlier.

If it's no trouble then i have no problem with you updating the file once we've explored a new square.

Male Human Dad/17

Motteditor
Due to the new errata regarding the Heirloom Weapon trait I'd like to Retcon Orin a bit. Still keeping the theme of his father's bow but instead of spending the original 300 gp's for the Masterwork quality using the money instead to upgrade the strength bonus of the bow to a +3.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

That's fine with me, Orin. And no problem updating the map myself, Patrik.

Also, we're just about at 1,000 posts, guys, so congratulations. It only took us 11 players (Sigurd, Brand and Stavros barely even made it to the fort while Lirisial, Xanwell and Draelen apparently got lost in the Stolen Lands) but I think we've got things going well.

However, it's a nice round number to check in and see if everyone's happy or has any requests. I think we've got a nice balance of roll- and role-playing, but let me know if you're finding too much/little of something. Also, everyone happy with combat? Now that I'm getting to play in few more PBPs, I've realized I'm very particular with how it works, but I worry saying anything could make me seem ungrateful/rude. So feel free to speak up if there's a problem with my recaps or anything. (Not sure if anyone's noticed, but sometimes my rolls are out of order. I tend to write the combat round up out of sequence, so sometimes I'll do a roll for a later action before the roll for the earlier action. Figured it'd be worth explaining that...)

We've still got a lot of exploration left to do, so I'm not sure if there's a way/desire to try to streamline that, but let me know if so (I think a couple of you have played this elsewhere).

Male Human Dad/17

WooHoo, 1,000 posts.

Male Human Dad/17

Never mind, just reread the 'old' Heirloom Weapon description, the Masterwork upgrade was free. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that I had paid the MW cost as well as the weapon cost.

On a side note, how do you feel about upgrading the Strength bonus of bows? There's nothing in the rules that I can find about doing it then again there's nothing prohibitting you from doing so, either.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hmm, haven't thought about that at all Vanulf. I guess I'd say you could do so, but for 150 gp (IIRC, normal cost for an extra point of strength is 100 gp, right?). Seems like it would be something harder to do with an already existing bow as opposed to one being made from scratch.

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

Congratulations on 1,000 posts, everyone :D

Is it just Treshiell and I left from the original party composition? I'm glad all of our more recent additions have flowed so well with the campaign's events thus far.

And as for the game, I'm enjoying it a lot and have no complaints. I've never played or read Kingmaker, so it's all exciting and new for me. If anyone who has played it or read it before has some recommendations for handling the exploration a bit quicker, I'm open to anything, but I don't mind the way we've been going at it. A little slow, but interesting and entertaining nonetheless.

Rupert Hentzau wrote:

I think so. Then Edrukk and Orin were in the second wave (Orin at least was an original applicant, though I don't recall if Edrukk was) and finally Agnar who I think was the fourth "round" of replacements (Draelen being the third).

My vacation is drawing near so my posting in the near future will be limited to non existing. I should be able to post at a reasonable rate until the 2nd-3rd of august, after which i will be travelling to spain and won't be back until the 15th of august. So please DMPC Treshiell as needed and i hope it won't cause to much of a problem.

Not sure if I remember your standard watch rotation, especially now that Draelen's gone. Let's see if we can't nail that down, and I'll add it to my profile notes.

Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey

I've got Agnar doing spell prep at dawn, so first or last watch for him would work. How many watches are we doing and for how long?

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Edrukk will take midnight watch with his darkvision.

This was the old watch order:
1st watch- Orin & Treshiell
2nd watch- Draelen & Edrukk
3rd watch- Lirisial & Rupert

With Eddrukk taking the middle watch, and Agnar the third this is what I've come up with:
1st watch: Orin & Treshiell
2nd watch: Edrukk
3rd watch: Agnar & Rupert

Let me know if anyone wants to change the rotation.

Hey all, I'm heading to Gencon tomorrow and my posts will probably be more sporadic than usual. I'll have my laptop and phone with me so I can follow the thread, just don't know how often I'll be able to post.

On the lighter side, if anyone is going to be attending and wants to help me celebrate my (46th) birthday on Saturday, just say so.

Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey

Looks good to me.

Happy Birthday. I'd wish you well, but then you're going to be at Gencon. Can't get much better than that.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Happy birthday, Orin. Enjoy the con. I'll be in New York for much of the weekend, so my posting may also be curtailed a bit. Not sure yet, as my family's so Internet addicted, we may all just be hanging out on our personal computers together.

Happy birthday, Orin! Same birthday as me :)

Entering "no posting" mode for about 1.5 weeks. Back around the 15th of august. Keep Treshiell (and Thaal!) alive for me :)

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I think I was behind on updating your overall map, so here it is. (With the full explored Temple of the Elk hex, from before you went back to Fort Kazmir. You traveled through the hex to the north, but didn't fully explore/map it.)

Just FYI, the hurricane's supposed to be heading this way, so it's possible I'll be without power at some point over the weekend and at the very least be busier at work, when I often try to post. Honestly, I don't think it'll be that bad here, but figured I'd just give folks the head's up.

Updated exploration map

As soon as Orin has enough money he would like to take some time and raise the strength rating on his bow to a +4 so he can use it effectively. Unfortunately the craft rules, as written, well....suck.
Using them and the price that Motteditor suggested it would take him, assuming an average roll of 10+Craft skill, about 16 weeks to craft his bow. I doubt anyone wants to sit around that long while he works.
I've scoured the boards on this subject and have seen some different alternatives suggested to bring it back in line with the need to keep adventuring.
Here are some the alternatives suggested on these boards.
Convert the material costs, only, into SP's: Using this method the only the material cost, in this case 200 GP's would be converted to SP's and then use the Craft rules from there on. In this scenario it would take Orin 5 weeks to craft his bow.
Ignore the SP requirement altogether: Keeping the cost in GP's completely is another option. With this option Orin could finsh his bow in about two weeks.
Third Party product: Spes Magna Games has a PDF called Making Craft Work which calls for one week of work at a slightly higher DC.

I, personally think that the material component option represents a good balance between the original rules and a party's need to keep adventuring. Let me know what you all think and Motteditor which one you would like to use.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Either the first or second alternative works well for me. Time's supposed to move over the campaign, so I don't mind some longer downtimes, but I'm happy to hear whatever feedback anyone else has. I've got no strong opinions. My gut feeling is doing this work in real life would take closer to two weeks than five, but it's far from my area of expertise. : )

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Edrukk will probably want to do some crafting as well once he can get his hands on enough coin and materials. The second option seems the easiest to me and easiest to remember.

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

If I wanted to brew some beer at some point, would it be something like Profession (brewer) or Profession (innkeeper) or Craft (beer)?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

My gut feeling would be craft beer, but I could be convinced it was profession (brewer) instead.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hey all, I just converted this to a campaign thread, which looks like a nice new tool from the boards. I'll put the info from my motteditor profile into the campaign info and we can figure out if we want to use any of the other tabs as we go...

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Couple things. My home computer seems to have died, so I'll be limited to posting from work until it's replaced. I'm hoping to have a new one built by the weekend, but if not, I'll be offline Sunday (and possibly Monday if I can't get it that morning).

Also, Vanulf, sorry to put you on the spot, but unfortunately the boards don't have a private message function. Just wanted to see what's happening. I know you mentioned that project you're working on, but you only seem to have posted twice in the last eight days. I understand if people miss a day or even two here and there, but I'd like to see at least five posts a week from everyone.

Male Human Dad/17

Sorry about that. Sometimes my OCD gets the better of me.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

I updated my profile page with the two fey, as well as the current locations of Jhod and Vandar (though realized I forgot to include what you've learned about/from the Sirens, so hopefully will get to that soon).

I also put it on the campaign info tab of this thread, along with the watch order. I'm going to try to use that more often, as it's a useful tool. (I might put some "save strings" like your initiatives, perception checks and survival checks so I can just copy and paste those when I'm updating away from home.)

I believe I'm picking up my new computer tomorrow, so will hopefully have a new map of your explored area up by the weekend. Should be lots of black removed now.

Male Human Dad/17

Hey all,
Sorry I haven't been able to post much lately. My sister and I just got back from visiting my 85 year old mother, who's been in and out of intensive care for the past six weeks or so. It was a chance for us to say good-bye for the last time. Now it seems that, according to the hospital, she probably won't make it past the weekend and we'll need to return to Tampa next week. So you'll forgive me if I seem distracted and slow to post, there's just a lot going on right now.
Thanks,
V

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Thanks for letting us know, Vanulf. Don't worry about the game; I certainly understand real-life issues are more important. My sympathies to you and your family.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Take care of your family first; the game isn't going anywhere. Just don't forget to enjoy yourself occasionally while you do it.
