Guardian: Threat Technique

Guardian Class Discussion

This ability feels underdeveloped. It definitely feels tacked on, where it could be a suite (as some other posters have suggested) akin to a Barbarian's Instinct.

Given their doesn't seem to be a lot of thematic wiggle room for creating potentially more interesting Guardians, I feel Threat Technique could be greatly expanded.

I don't think the class already has too much going on either mechanically or thematically. Different Intercept Strikes could be given with different Threat Techniques for example.

I'm sure we will see more Threat Techniques in the final release, I just don;t want them to be so anaemic.

Does anyone agree?

I don't know whether we need more threat techniques or not - do more damage or mitigate more harm seems like the binary I'd expect on that - but they DO need advancement. I'd like to see some class features at higher levels that do more with it - like exalt/smite/etc on Champion. I'd also like to see ANY of the class feats care about which technique you're built into.

I definitely agree that this feature should be expanded upon. It's probably the easiest avenue for differentiating the Guardian from other classes, which I feel the class could absolutely benefit from.

Hmm. I see your initial point, and any point I’d make regarding further diversification might be served by your agreement that advancement/further development is needed, and that there may not be any Guardian capabilities for Threat techniques.

But I do wonder if there are options outside the binary. You stop damage. You deal damage. The former isn’t even so much a Threat as a Kept Promise. The latter is definitely a Threat Made and then Made Good.

So what other Threats might there be?

“I’ll eat your homework?”

Ok, but seriously.

“I’ll eat your Actions?” That might be stopping damage-adjacent/advanced.
“I’ll cripple you/your capabilities?” Sounds like dealing damage.

Does bear thinking on though.

I agree. Or, more importantly to my mind, differentiating Guardian’s from each other. Which the class could most *definitely* benefit from.

Threat technique probably shouldn’t be a choice. It should just be both. That way you feel like you win regardless of what the enemy does.

I like this thought, but I agree with Oceanshield that the Guardian class needs internal differentiation *badly* and this only makes that issue worse.

Threat technique feels like the space that could have created distinct Guardian playstyles if it was also reinforced by feats only available to that technique that expand the playstyle.

I cosign the idea that both techniques should be a part of the base Taunt action. As is, if you guess what the enemy is going to do wrong the Technique becomes useless and that feels bad man, especially on a class feature that eats up an action each turn.

I see the problem about a lack of distinct playstyles though.
