Create a vampire

Rules Discussion

Hello, I have a question to create a vampire.

Quote:
If the base creature has any abilities that specifically come from it being a living creature, it loses them.

What means it ?

For example, Kanninjo is a spirit naga and a shiang-chi vampire. It has still all abilities as a spirit naga.

Quote:
Manipulate the Green Kannijo can use inveigle against plant creatures normally immune to mental effects, and can communicate with inveigled plant creatures as if under the effects of speak with plants.

Does it come from the transformation in vampire ?

Thanks for your future answer.

This is from the Creating a Vampire guidelines in Bestiary 1.

So if the GM is creating a vampire creature by using an existing creature from the bestiary and adding these modifications to it, one of the modifications is to remove any abilities of that creature that are due to being living. But you don't need to remove all of the abilities that the base creature has.

Now, that isn't really defined - it is left up to the GM doing the creature creation to decide that.

So, for example. If I am creating a Vampire Leshy based on a Leaf Leshy then I might decide that the Verdant Burst ability is only for living leshies - so I would remove that one. But I would leave Leshy Glide and Deafening Blow.

It means remove any abilities that are dependent on the creature being alive.

Since it's not alive, such abilities wouldn't function.

I cannot think of any specific examples of such abilities at the moment.

However, it's one heck of a blurry line, since we're talking about a world of magic that frequently allows non-living things to do what they ordinarily could not (such as see, think, move, digest, etc.).

Just use your best judgment and you'll likely be fine.
