Hello everyone,
I am on the hunt for advice and recommendations for a build I'm considering for my inaugural playthrough of Wrath of the Righteous. Although this is my first Pathfinder game, I do have basic knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons and other CRPG games.
I'm not particularly concerned with min-maxing as I am customizing the difficulty level to a daring level. However, I do seek a build that's robust and suits the role-playing theme. I've already gained some basic understanding of the game mechanics from numerous YouTube videos, as well as from creating some characters and playing the first act's early stages.
My intention is to develop a Gish melee-focused character, clad in heavy armor and employing magic to enhance survivability, buffs, and control. I don't aim to be a blaster until later in the game. I would appreciate access to level 9 spells, but I'm unsure if it's necessary given I've heard 9th level spells don't match their tabletop counterparts in the game. Consequently, I'm not interested in a Magus due to the limited spell progression. Instead, an Eldritch Knight seems more viable. I'm also aware of the war priest as a heavy armor caster option, but I'm more inclined towards arcane magic. ( I will save the divine magic theme for a second playthrough for Angel mythic path)
In terms of race, I'm considering Human for the additional feat and skills. Alternatively, Half-Elf could work from a role-play perspective - someone torn between two worlds (humans and elves) and harnessing this duality by specializing in both martial combat and magic use.
For the Wizard's Arcane School, I'm inclined towards Divination. Forewarned seems like a compelling choice due to its progressive initiative check bonus. The Opposed Schools I'm considering are Necromancy and Enchantment.
Here is a tentative plan for levels:
Armiger Fighter 2 at levels 1 and 20 - The motivation behind choosing this subclass is the reduced spell failure chance when wearing armor provided by the Order of the Gate. The Studious Squire role-play option seems apt for an Eldritch Knight dedicated to studying, and it seems to synergize well with the humans' Skilled trait for a stacked bonus to skills.
Wizard 8 at levels 2-6 and 17-19.
Eldritch Knight 10 at levels 7-16.
Feats are an area where I am struggling the most. As a starting point, I'm considering Power Attack and Fast Learner to boost skill gain. I'd love suggestions on which feats would suit this build, considering the vast array of options, and also recommendations for the wizard bonus feats.
Guidance on spell selection during level-up would be immensely helpful too.
One aspect I neglected to mention is weapon specialization. I'm leaning towards a 2H Greatsword for role-play reasons, but I'm uncertain about its compatibility with spellcasting, and whether the game features a greatsword that would mesh well with this build. I'm not strictly against using a Longsword or Elven Curve Blade if they are more suited to this build.
Any other armor recommendations are welcome as well.
For the Mythic Path, I'm considering Aeon but could use some advice on which skills to choose.
Thanks in advance for any guidance! I appreciate your help.
