Saw this movie over the weekend.
Wow. Like nothing I've ever seen. Solid script, solid acting, Godzilla looks great and Godzilla action is great. The acting is very formal and stylized, like acting from a film on the era when it is set (40s-50s).
This is a good movie. Dark but not torturous. Beautiful message, great character arcs. And also a good monster movie.

They've released a black and white version of the movie. Appropriately, it's called Godzilla Minus One: Minus Color. I don't know about elsewhere, but apparently here in the USA it's only going to be for one week.
I was hoping to take the boy today, since it's in a theater not far from the house. However, he's currently fighting a cold and feels like crud. So we'll skip it today most likely.
Maybe we can go during the week, if there's a night we're not busy and both feeling okay. If not, then I'm hoping they'll include both versions when they release it on bluray.

I watched the movie Monday night, and it was just as good as I remember it being. Now when the boy comes back from Summer Camp, he and I will watch it again.
When it eventually comes out on 4K here in the states, I'll probably pick it up.
Someone on Youtube was saying this is a good movie to measure others by, insofar as comparing the success of the movie with the cost of making it. I've got to agree. I think that's one of Hollywood's many problems - bloated budgets.

Toho Greenlights New Godzilla Film From ‘Godzilla Minus One’ Director Takashi Yamazaki
I figured this was the best place for this news until we get an official title and thread.

Just got back from seeing the movie in the theater again. The re-release was part of the 70th anniversary. It was pretty cool. Before and after the movie they showed some behind the scenes stuff.
Before was some special effects stuff. It was neat to see part of how they made that budget stretch so effectively. The after was just a short Q & A with the director and the head of VFX.
The boy and I had enjoyed ourselves. And the matinee price of the tickets was sweet.
