Edward's restraining himself from yanking sight with the spyglass.

"They WHAT?"

Ye ain't the only one, mate. I'll be bringin' tha wrath o' Besmara 'erself down on em iffen they were fer hurtin' either o' em. That be a promise.

He looks through the glass, and snarls before yanking it out of its perch and handing it to Isaac.

Isaac takes the spyglass from Alabaster and puts it in his pack. "Thank ye. I agree. Now tha' we hav' som' kin' o' trail, we need to be following' it. Aft'rwar's, we can cross som' thin's off our lis'."

Isaac looks to Jesal. "Aye. Even if we be gettin' th' Man's Promise, we still be needin' th' wat'r to surviv'."

So, for order of things to do, I have:
1) grindylows/save the crew
2) collect the water
3) investigate the shack because we haven't gone in it
4) collect the torches from the mountain
5) take care of the swarms
6) run the mutiny
7) come back to the island and collect all of the treasure

Now, #6 can be done earlier depending on the amount of time we have. Does this look okay with everyone?

Male

Isaac wrenches the spyglass out of its resting place in the stockade wall, and your group sets out across the treacherous, rocky ridge toward the spot where you spied the grindylows. The sun crawls toward noon as you make your way southward, and it's a few hours into the afternoon when you finally reach the spot--almost at the edge of the island's steep western cliffs--where you saw the grindylows earlier.

There's no sign of grindylows now, sadly. You easily find the sinkhole you saw earlier, though: roughly 30' wide, it's a sheer-sided opening in the rock face. One side of its lip slopes steeply down, and the cliffs that surround it range from 40' to 80' in height. They surround a deep cove churning with dark seawater.

Profession (Sailor) or Knowledge (Geography) DC 10:
The water at the bottom of this cove is dark and smooth aside from the froth of its churning...it's got to be deep, and free of rocks. You could probably dive in if you wanted to avoid having to climb the cliffs. It would require an Acrobatics check.

Arhiel pauses a moment and nods to the guys. "I'm not much for diving in but I'm more than willing to climb down a rope to save our friends. If they are savable, then we must do this!" Isaac may take this as a change to her attitude, but really it isn't, she just didn't think they'd be anywhere reachable in the grindylow's hands.

Okay, in that case...

Isaac climbs down first. He has little to no problem scrambling down the rope.

Climb: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

He keeps an eye on Arhiel, ready to aid her.

After checking the climb skill info, it seems that it might have a low DC since we have a wall to brace against. But just in case Arhiel falls, I'll make to catch her. Just need to know what happens.

Male

Isaac swarms down the rope without much difficulty, and finds that although the waters of the basin below are churning heavily, he's a skilled enough swimmer to stay afloat with little trouble. With him bracing the rope against the wall, Arhiel is (just) able to make her way down to the basin as well, slipping at one point and banging her elbow on the wall, but not hard enough to do anything worse than sting.

She has a much harder time staying afloat in the churning tide pool, but with Isaac giving her a hand, she's able to at least keep her head above water.

Isaac's swim check is high enough to auto-succeed; with him assisting Arhiel, the roll I made for her keeps her above water. ;) However, he can't assist her and brace the rope...so I'll let him post as to which he'll do and the others can make Climb (or diving) checks!

Arhiel and Isaac:
As the two of you cling together and tread water, you can see that there are two low tunnels in the southern wall of the cliff, which appear to be completely submerged after a foot or so. One, to your right, leads westward (the direction of the open sea) while the one to your left leads east, into the rock of the island itself.

Jesal makes his way carefully down the rope before jumping the last few feet, landing in the water with a splash and surfacing gracefully, shaking water from his hair and treading easily. Alabaster makes what would be a perfect dive...were it not for a loose stone that turns under his foot right near the lip of the cliff. He manages to almost straighten himself out, but still hits the water side-on. Edward, too, has a bad fall when he's scared by a stirge that flaps out of an unseen nest on the cliff wall, chirping angrily, and the pirate plunges into the water with a *smack*!

Fortunately, the deep water cushions your falls...Alabaster takes 2 points of nonlethal damage, and Edward takes 3.

Regrouping, your party is faced with a choice between a tunnel to the right, that leads in the direction of the open sea, or a tunnel to your left that leads into the rock. Isaac, Alabaster, and Jesal can easily swim forward and see that both tunnels appear to be completely flooded, and turn not far from their opening into this hole; the weaker swimmers, Arhiel and Edward, are only able to tread water if left unaided in the strong tidal pool.

That assumes you're taking 10 on the Swim checks; you can roll higher as well, of course. :)

Which way?

Taking a deep breath, Jesal dives and vanishes beneath the surface of the water...

Jesal:
The lightless tunnel winds forward and down, twisting as it dives into the rock. After just about thirty or forty feet, though, it bends sharply upward, and you emerge into an air pocket in the rock. A short stone ledge rises in front of you, and two caverns seem to open from it: one to the left and one to the right. Barely any light filters in from the water behind you.

If you want to creep forward, make a Stealth check, please!

Take 10?

Human Bard 7 HP: 52/52 AC 15/T12/F13 F+4 R+7 W+5
+4 bonuses vs:
bardic performance, sonic, and language-dependent effects.
Init+6 Perc.+10 Performance 20/20

We might as well.
I definitely need to invest in that as well when we hit lvl 4.

Sadly you can't take 10 on opposed checks...since I don't see objections I'm going to assume the proposed order holds. :P

As you all surface in the dark cavern, Isaac tries to stealthily peer over the lip of stone ahead of you...unfortunately, he slips on some cave slime and makes a clattering crash as he regains his footing. Distantly, you hear: "ຈະເປັນແນວໃດສິ່ງລົບກວນທີ່ນີ້?" "ຄົນນອກ! ໄດ້ຮັບໃຫ້ເຂົາເຈົ້າ!"

Aquan:
"What was that noise?" "Intruders, you fool! Get them!"

Peering into the cave to his right, which is dimly lit by glowing lichen on the walls, Isaac sees a mob of grindylows making ready to attack!

COMBAT! ROUND ONE
Isaac and Jesal leap into action as the grindylows are still grasping their spears...

Initiative
Isaac, Jesal <------
Grindylows
Arhiel, Alabaster, Edward

Tactical Situation Note that because the tides change the water level in these caves, there's less water than it looks like...the black circle is the area in which you must swim in this cavern. Other areas you can stand in.

GM Screen:

Grindy Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Others: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 4 = 11
Initiative Alabaster: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Initiative Arhiel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Initiative Edward: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Initiative Isaac: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Initiative Jesal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Init Grindy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Male Human (Cheliaxian/Mwangi) Rogue [Pirate] 7 | hp: 25/52 | AC 18 | T 12 | FF 16 | CMD 21 | F +3 (+5 vs hot weather), R +7, W +3; +2 vs fear/mind-affecting | Init +2 | Perc +11 | SM +9

Isaac curses as he loses his footing. He then sees the grindylows, draws his cutlass, and shouts out in Aquan, "Ye ca' not be hopin' to win her'! Ye shoul' run!" He then runs, diving into the deeper water, and swims a bit.

Swim (if needed): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

If I'm in the wrong spot, please correct that.

Male

Isaac dives into the water and begins swimming toward the grindylows as they shriek and clutch their spears!

Gonna give Jesal until tomorrow morning to post. Also, I forgot to mention earlier...the squares here are 10' each, not 5, so please count movement accordingly and position yourselves in one corner. Isaac's movement looks correct.

GM Screen:

Isaac Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Male Human (Mwangi) Aquatic Druid 4
Status:
  • HP: 30/30
  • AC: 14, T: 11, F: 13
  • F:6, R: 2, W: 8, Init: +1; Perception: +11
  • Channels Used: 1/7
  • 1st: hydralic push,air bubble, snowball (16), tripvine (15), calm animal
  • 2nd: slipstream, Gozreh's trident, agg thundercloud (16)

Jesal will hold action in cover until.they move in closer. Once they've swarmed forward he will.move out and channel to control.
