Dungeon magazine image quality

Paizo General Discussion

Hi folks,

I'm working on a playthrough of The Shackled City adventure path, and I am running into an issue with the image quality from downloads from Paizo for the maps. One of them is a city map and to be honest, the words in the map are literally unreadable. I would love to pay Paizo for PDFs of these magazines, but I can't use them if the map images are so low quality.

Any ideas?

Not going to happen, the rights to magazines reverted to WotC and Paizo can't touch it anymore beyond selling it - hence no PDFs of some issues of Dragon/Dungeon and no updates of old PDFs.

So, one option would be some intelligent upscaling! The easiest / highest quality way I've found to do this is to use Icons8's Upscaler: https://icons8.com/upscaler

I used this against some old AP images, and documented it here, so you can check out the before and after: https://katieplaysgames.wordpress.com/2022/07/04/adventure-path-maps-vtt-an d-minimizing-heartburn/

It's not perfect, but it does make the maps way more usable. Text, you'll likely have to add in yourself, but at least the lines will be a bit clearer.
