Chronicle Sheets, Downtime, and Order of Operations

I'm trying to wrap my head around Chronicle Sheets, Downtime, and their order of operations.

Can someone please walk me through it?

I have a character who started a scenario at 8 XP, ending with 12 XP, thereby gaining a 2nd level. I wish to use my 8 days of downtime to Earn Income along with the River Kingdoms Politician boon I just picked up from the scenario that resulted in my leveling up.

River Kingdoms Politician (General): You have made yourself, one way or another, a known quantity in the realm of River Kingdoms politics. Upon completing an adventure set in the River Kingdoms or Razmiran, you may check a box next to this boon when using your downtime to Earn Income to participate in the political intrigues of the region, allowing you find an Earn Income task of up to your level +1.

Once all three boxes next to this boon are checked, this boon has a special effect in a future adventure.

For the purposes of this Earn Income, am I treated as 2nd- or 3rd-level? Which comes first, the level or the check? Should I be getting treasure bundles according to my old level or my new level?

Or is it somehow split in the case of downtime, since downtime is given for each XP earned?

If you could provide additional examples that clearly show the order in which benefits are accrued, I'd be most appreciative. I know a few players at the game shop who have been asking similar questions.

You apply the changes in the following order:
Treasure, downtime, then XP.

Here's the rules reference

... Leveling up happens after all other rewards for the scenario are calculated, including Downtime, however characters can still purchase equipment after leveling up. ...

So you're still 1st level for treasure bundles, and acting as 2nd level with that boon for your downtime check.
