If there was a lv1 feat that allowed you to substitute DEX with WIS for attack rolls, would that have any non-obvious consequences?
At first sight starting with 16WIS and 14DEX and attacking with WIS looks strictly worse to me than 14WIS and 16DEX and attacking with DEX.
If something like this was balanced and easy to integrate I would love to see it in the final class. Attacking with a mental stat makes the class feel so much more magical. Wisdom will always be the stat I associate most with Avatar-style bending and hitting with a blast because of my characters spiritual connection to their element is just so much cooler to me than landing a blast because my character is good at throwing stuff.

I feel like the issue is with heavy armor, as that would allow you to ignore dex, str, int, and cha if you wanted to, which is probably too much. currently, you need con for dc, dex or str to hit, and wis for will and perception. maybe if they did something with armor check penalty so you at least need str? but that also seems very punishing for non heavy armor kineticists.

I feel like the psychic already does this.
WIS based attacks, primal flavor, slotless elemental utility magic, powerful martial strikes... these are the things I want from a mental kineticist and the psychic does nothing of that. Don't get me wrong, psychics are awesome, but not as elemental blasters.

If that's the only problem, just say that mental kineticists need to be unarmored or light armored to attack with WIS because thick armor doesn't let them connect with nature the same way. Heavy armor isn't part of the fantasy of a mental kineticist anyway.
