When you select this boon, it does not apply to your current character. Instead, select one of your Starfinder Society characters with 0 XP. The character can select one additional active boon during any session. A character cannot select multiples of the same boon in this way, and cannot select an ally boon that matches the prerequisite of an already slotted boon. For example, you cannot slot both an Elite Hireling and Professional Hireling with this ability, though you could slot a Digital Imp and a Professional Hireling.
Initially, when I applied this Boon to my newest character, I thought I wouldn't be able to use it to slot two different Hirelings. I still use my Season 3 PDF to reference older Boons, and "Basic Hireling Access" on page 29 is a singular Boon.
But now that Boons have transitioned online, I see there are 4 different Hirelings, as 4 different downloads, with 4 different names ("Diplomat", "Tech Support", "Medic" and "Academic").
So can I slot two different Hirelings using Mark of Leadership? I'm aware I couldn't then later have two Amateur/Professional/Elite/Master Hirelings slotted, since those Boons still have the same name.

There are two restrictions. The first is, you "cannot select an ally boon that matches the prerequisite of an already slotted boon", meaning you couldn't enhance a Basic Hireling with both a Professional Hireling and a Master Hireling. You'd have to pick one or the other.
And the second is, you "cannot select multiples of the same boon". So, initially, you could not select two Basic Hireling Boons, because they have the same name.
But the Boons changed names. So I'm checking to make sure that is the intended effect.

Since all Hirelings boons start with Basic Hireling, all the upgrades have Basis Hireling as their prerequisite.
The intent was to not have two active Hireling Allies.

Ok i don't think you can because i am pretty sure they share the same prerequisites. That is where the restriction is. It is not on the name of boon.
I explained these points earlier, but I'll try again here.

A Basic Hireling (Diplomat) has no prerequisites. Neither does the Basic Hireling (Tech Support). Or the other two Basic Hirelings (I can't recall their names at the moment). But they're all Basic. They have no prerequisites.
The Amateur Hireling, Professional Hireling, Elite Hireling and Master Hireling DO have prerequisites. That prerequisite is having already slotted a Basic Hireling Boon.
This restriction is clearly intended to prevent you from augmenting a Basic Hireling with, say, BOTH an Elite Hireling AND a Professional Hireling. In fact, that is the very example they give us.
So that part shouldn't be in contention.

This is ultimately the clause I came here to ask about. Originally, there was only one Basic Hireling. So, clearly, you could not "select multiple" Basic Hirelings to slot.
But that has since changed, with the Boons going online. There are now 4 different Basic Hireling Boons. They are each their own download. Different files. Different names.
The change seems intentional to me, but I've been burned so many times in the past making basic assumptions that I feel the need to get my ducks in a row before doing anything these days.

Circling back to this: Official word from Leadership is that those are all the same boon (Basic Hireling.) Separating the 4 flavors of Basic Hireling is purely for tracking and convenience.
