I know everyone likes Paizo. I like Paizo! But as I get older and responsibilities to family become more important, time away from the family gets more valuable.
So my request is simple and I may get completely shot down.
Can we fold a lot of the events and hoopla like you're doing for Paizocon into GenCon? Are they going to be the same things already?
Just a request.
I'm really not trying to be a killjoy here.

Paizocon is taking the place of Origins in the Paizo company Con schedule. last year it was announced that Origins would be the end of pathfinder season 0, but about 3 months ago it was revealed that paizo wasn't going to be there in force and they were doing paizocon instead.
Gencon is the beginning of season 1

Gen Con is insane and crazy and requires all the people we bring to be running seminars or ringing up sales from open to finish. At the same time, it's also one of the few chances the editorial staff has all year to talk face-to-face with the contributors, so even "after hours' things can get busy as hell. And even then, we can't afford to bring the whole company to the convention.
PAIZOCON is located five minutes from the Paizo offices, and will feature the entire staff. Not working, but PLAYING GAMES and socializing with Paizo customers in a laid-back atmosphere.
I love Gen Con to death, but it almost literally puts all of us to death every year.
This is something different.

In all seriousness, though, unless I get a new job that allows people to take vacation in August, I can't attend GenCon, so I am glad that I'll get to enjoy at least some of this summer's Paizo festivities. If you can't make it to both, just accept that you will get to be there for the launch of PRPG and the GenCon PFS events and whatnot.

Someone needs to start a "veector vs Paizocon... FIGHT!" thread just for old times sake.
;-)
Awh... you remembered. :)
I'm not trying to fight, I'd just love to attend something like this and my wife lets me out of the house only a few times a year for gaming.
Maybe if you could elaborate on Bellevue, WA as a fabulous tourist destination?

Well, João, as co-chair with DF, I'm likely to accept your generous offer to relocate PaizoConSouth further south. I'm sure we can get the DFW committee to accept this move, since I hear you offering to host all Texans (and a few stray Okies) at your place!
Hmmm....I've never been South of the Equator...

Dithering, since João hasn't responded, he must be off making arrangements. Don't you agree silence is acquiescence? I bet his house is a tropical paradise...(starts dreaming of Robinson Crusoe, but with a lot more hotties).
I have an apartment in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro 5 blocks from the beach. ^^ it is total bliss.

So are there going to be Pathfinder events at Origins?
Yes! We will be running at least four different scenarios there. I'm trying to work with The Gathering to make it happen ... but they've been less than responsive so if I don't hear back from them by Friday, I'll call for volunteers and do this thing myself. I love to GM anyway. :-)

Well, I DO live in an tropical island... I just dont think a lot of people would fit in my house :)
Though you might share the backyard with our dog. It doesnt bite (much)... That, of course, unless one of the usual random tropical hurricanes do not hit the area during PaizoConSouth!
Then again, if it was in Rio, Id have where to retreat, since thats where I'm from originally ;)

I would LOVE to go to GenCon and/or PaizoCon but I'm on the East coast (south eastern Pennsylvania, a hour or so away from Philadelphia) so it's really hard to travel that far.
Are there any decent conventions on the East coast? More importantly, does Paizo ATTEND any conventions or events on the East coast??? There are a lot of gamers over here on the right side of the map that would like some love!

There is Dragon Con. in Atlanta... Which Paizo does not go to, but White Wolf does.. It is not a gaming convention only, it is the *as the web page says* largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US.
I went there is 2002, had an great time!...

There's Icon (www.Iconsf.org)... but Paizo hasn't attended. Wizards has been there for 3e, 3.5e, and 4e. Monte's been there twice.
I wish I could go to Paizocon.. but I don't have the money for it sadly.

That was near my hometown.. I was a regular to that from 91-98... But the gaming part went down hill... not sure if it got better..
I do have some great memories from that convention..:-) *Different the my Dragon Con memories ;-)*

I didn't miss megacon, I wish I missed megacon, but I didn't miss megacon. that is a comic/anime convention, I thought it was an everything convention hence the name mega, but it's not there were two stores in that entire con that had any real gaming stuff and nothing worth really picking up. If you are looking for cons I guess it's good, but if you were expecting gaming stuff it wasn't really there, heck they moved it into its own seperate rooms and what i did see wasn't worth writing home about :(. that's why i am really looking forward to paizocon as a gamer.

We're still a very small company, folks--if we had the budget Wizards does for attending conventions, we'd be at every single one we could be. For now, though, we're stuck attending 2-3 a year and sending prize support to others. Our OP community is also doing a great job of increasing our Pathfinder Society presence at shows all across the country as well. :-)

I, for one, am glad for this con, as it'll be my first gaming convention in my nearly 30 years of gaming. *grins*
Every time I tried for GenCon, something would happen or come up (like two layoffs), so PaizoCon is not only cool, but close and with folks I'd love to meet, too.
It's sorta like how folks get GenCon, who live close to it, at a much most cost effect means than the rest of us.

Wasn't a complaint, just telling the guy that Paizo hasn't been to it. :)
