Scarab Sages

So one of the rules I liked best from PF1 as a GM was the item creation rules because it allows me to make fun little items that were a lot more interesting than core items. After all, what sounds more fun, +1 axe, or the axe of Drogun the butcher, most feared of the crazed axe tribe, his axe is not only +1, but also grants +2 competence bonus to intimidation checks. For almost a trivial amount more money, you could slap a +1 of +2 to a skill on an item and really make it really interesting.

Sadly, without a magic crafting guideline in PF2, that is just not the case. You can’t just add a bit of gold to the cost of an item to add a fun-but ultimately non game-breaking ability to a +1 long sword.

That being said, I used some of the few rules that do exist for magic item creation (like personal staves) as well as items that already exist, to make some unique magic items that you can inject into your game for a bit of flavor. Feel free to add your own!

Trollsticker (Based on: Smoking Sword, Stormhammer)
Item 3
Evocation Acid Magical
Price 60 gp
Bulk 2

Crafted by the Dwarves of the Five King Mountains during a prolonged conflict with trolls a generation ago, These +1 Longspears constantly smell of vinegar and have a greenish tinge to them. Designed to be cheap to make and easy to use, troops could engage their large foes at a distance with these weapons. Originally designed to deal fire damage, it was soon discovered that fire damage didn’t negate the regeneration of cavern trolls, these items were quickly modified to deal acid damage instead.

Any hit with this Longspear deals 1 extra acid damage. You can use a special action while holding the pear to command the point to begin spewing forth acid.

Activate Single Action concentrate; Effect Until the end of your turn, the spear deals 1d6 extra acid damage instead of just 1. After you use this action, you can't use it again for 10 minutes.

Dress Sword of Social Graces (Based on: Acrobat’s staff)
Item 6
UncommonFortuneMagicalTransmutation
Price 235 gp
Usage held in 1 hand: bulk:1
Originally designed a few hundred years ago to help boorish Taldans not make fools of themselves in court, these weapons eventually became so ubiquitous that it seemed every nobleman in Taldor had one. They have since fallen out of fashion and using one is considered a faux pas in Taldor high society. They can, however still be found here and there.

This +1 striking Rapier is particularly ornate and would not look out of place on a military dress uniform. When wielded or prominently worn (not hidden) they soothe the mind of the owner, granting a +1 to will saving throws to resist demoralization through intimidate.

Activate Reaction command; Frequency: 1 per day; Trigger You fail or critically fail a Diplomacy check in high society that is not a gather information check: Requirements: You are wielding or prominently wearing the rapier: Effect Reroll the Diplomacy check and take the better result.

Soothing Staff (Personal staff with fundamental runes)
Item 7
MagicalMenatal EnchantmentStaff
Usage held in 1 hand

Rumored to have been crafted by the bard Ciprian to aid his injury-prone adventuring party in their medical needs, this +1 striking staff originally just contained Soothe spells. As Ciprian’s needs grew he began adding more and more utility spells to the staff, all of which were designed to aid his party, or to at least get the Barbarian to calm down. In the years since Ciprian’s retirement, many others have taken to crafting similar staves.

Activate Cast a Spell; Effect You expend a number of charges from the staff to cast a spell from its list.

Craft Requirements Supply one casting of all listed levels of all listed
Price 350 GP
