Rel state batteries are interesting.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I recently bought and have been browsing the devestation ark items (avoiding the AP itself) and the rel batteries are interesting. Expensive but provide unlimited charges to any item that uses a battery. Nice alternative to the back up generator if you have the credits but a shame it can't be used on things like a computer to provide unlimmited operation.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, although there are not too many interesting technology items that use batteries that would benefit that much. My favourite was the suit that let you become incorporeal/ethereal. A lot of the interesting hybrid items that have charges unfortunately couldn’t be used with this.

True like I said being able to put one of these into a computer or the like would be useful. Sadly its one of these interesting but not much use as written items. Even the ones that could use it e.g. mobile hotelier (permanent evironmental protection when camping) don't use charges fast enough to really justify going with these instead.

It’s best on an automatic weapon.

Maybe for a grenade scrambler, but they are too rare to need 24/7 protection from them.

Environmental Field Collars are battery efficient enough that you do not really need them to be unlimited compared to the 20 day protection you get with a normal battery. (Or however a capacity of 10 works)

They would allow long term use with holoskins. Can they be used on power armor?

Yes, they work on anything powered by a battery.

Force Fields would be another reason to use one. You could just leave it on permanently.

Scarab Sages

Hmmm I hadn't thought about power armour and forcefields they could be useful there. Same for some of the other high usage items like a Grandchilds cloak.

Any technological items as I read it in Nethys, which seems to be their own item category. Not sure if power armor would also count.

In context of that entire chapter it's clear that "any technological device" doesn't mean the category of "technological items." It's everything that uses a battery.

Thus:

Heavy Degenerator weapon description wrote:

HEAVY DEGENERATOR

The heavy degenerator is a squad-level support weapon carried into battle by sivv warmasters and other elite soldiers. The high power requirements of such a weapon virtually require the use of a rel-battery, which draws infinite energy from rel-state.
Degenerator Pistol weapon description wrote:

DEGENERATOR PISTOL
Once a common sidearm among sivv officers, law enforcement officials, and citizenry, the degenerator pistol is a light, handy weapon that inflicts catastrophic cellular damage at a quantum level. Many sivvs augmented their degenerator pistols with a rel-battery, eliminating power concerns.
Felnar item description wrote:

FELNAR LEVEL 13

HYBRID ITEM
PRICE 50,000 BULK 4
CAPACITY 20 USAGE 1/MINUTE
The felnar is a traditional sivv musical instrument.
Constructed from a rare wood harvested according to strict ritual protocols that’s further amplified with magic spells, the felnar’s bed is filled with a web of interwoven metal strings attached to posts arranged around the outside of the instrument. A skilled felnar player plucks the instrument’s lower strings while strumming the higher strings; most felnar compositions require the use of four hands to play. A bow is sometimes drawn across the higher strings. A felnar is traditionally powered by a rel-battery, but it can be played for a short time on a naturally regenerating reservoir of magical energy that replenishes
every day.

This hybrid item potentially allows in things like the Grandmother's Cloak mentioned above.

As far as weapons go, it's also not a mistake that the rel-battery Mk1-5 power items of levels 16-20, which is the same as the range of item levels for published Sivv weapons.

Is there any ability or item out there which allows you to transfer charges from one battery to another (transfer charge wouldnt work)? Such an ability would make the rel-state a free, infinite recharge station.

Power Armour

Unlike light and heavy armor, powered armor requires its own battery, and comes with a fully charged battery at purchase. Powered armor uses the same type of batteries as other items, including charged weapons, and the battery for a suit of powered armor can be recharged as normal using a generator or recharging station (see page 234), or it can be replaced with a new battery when spent (see Table 7–9: Ammunition for battery pricing).

Rel Battery
This tiny hybrid device can be attached to any technological device that uses a battery and has an item level equal to or less than its own, drawing infinite energy from rel-state and providing unlimited charges.

So I'd say yes power armour counts.

Sadly not that I know of, transfer charge only works on identical items.
