My PCs are about to do the final assault on Valor's Fastness. They are aware of Exemplar and are worried about him. Frankly, I am too. How did your squads get thru this absolute monster's defenses?
I assume most parties that have dealt with him have had an antipaladin smiting with a two-handed power attack weapon to at least deal half dmg and bypass dmg reduction. My party doesn't have one of those. It just seems like their attacks with magic weapons (even ghost salted) will do very little damage.
Anyone have any advice that I can give them thru Razelago and / or Zara?

hi, few years ago now (we're currently in book 5!) but the fight went like this.
the party assaulted the walls first, and took out the three guards on the easten wall. the militia moved into position to make the assault on the gate, once the party had tackled the lock.
Exemplr came in and unleashed the howl and everyone, except one of the party, fled. Low rolls on the number of rounds though, and the people cannot be affected by the same howl again for 24 hours. our fighter took some damage from falling off the wall. the last remaining guy who saved hi check, managed to hold for a few rounds and got Exemplr's HP down by a good number, but paid dearly with his own HP. the cleric, who had recovered fired off some Magic Mistles and reduced the dog to negatives.
iirc, the party was rolling rocks for all this encounter.
hope this helps.
