Confused about the Odeenka encounter (spoilers)

Wrath of the Righteous

It says if the PCs swear loyalty to Baphomet and succeed at a bluff check she leaves but mentions something about Baphomet being weakened. It then says if the PCs seem to happy about this news she realizes who they are and attacks unless they make another bluff check. That said, how do you decide whether the PCs seem too excited about it? Even if the player is like "wow", that doesn't mean their character necessarily says the same thing (especially if they have 26 wis or something like that.)

Ideally when a campaign starts the players have a notion of how the GM handles 'player sidebars' as in, when a NPC says something and everyone at the table chats about it before continuing the conversation.

My preferred solution is to assume that if the players are chatting about something, their characters are having a similar if not exact conversation about that topic unless one of the players directly asks for a clarification 'GM? Is that the name of that guy we met a while back?' as opposed to 'Anyone remember the name of that guy we met at the bar when doing that stuff?'

Anyway, the point is that the players should know how their chatter is treated in game, if at all. If up to this point there has been no such distinction and this is surprising knowledge to the PCs, you might call for bluff from everyone (guaranteeing a fight as most parties only have one bluff specialist), have the creature roll a sense motive against the PC's feint DC, or some other arbitrary way.

Or, my old standby: If the PCs bluff and you want a fight anyway, then that clause triggers. If you don't want the fight, let it work.
