Starfinder equivalent of Semper Fi

General Discussion

Hey all,
First time posting on here hope I'm doing this right. I'm a retired Marine playing Attack of the Swarm, we Marines use our motto Semper Fidelis, Semper Fi to other Marines all the time. What do you think the equivalent phrase would be in Starfinder?

Nice seeing you around these here parts Wolfman!

How about something fast and simple? Like "Foreward" or "No Retreat" or maybe take a page from old Chesty? "Retreat, Hell!"

Honestly, it depends on the organization in question. If we're talking just a standard marine unit, you could just use "Semper Fi," or the English translation "Always Loyal/Faithful," since Latin technically isn't something in Starfinder's galaxy (Earth's there, but it's in another galaxy, and Drift travel can't go out that far).

If your character was a member of, say, the Knights of Golarion, they might have a motto referencing Iomedae, like "For Victory, For the Heart," which comes from Pathfinder. If they're a Hellknight, they may quote their individual order's creed, like the Order of the Chain's "All men lift themselves up upon the backs of others," or the Order of the Pike's "The greatest foes refuse to hide" (by the way, the Pike is probably the Hellknight order who'd fit best into Attack of the Swarm).

We'd probably need to know more about the character you intend to play to provide more specific advice.

I'm using a screen reader so it kind of mangled the slight misspelling, and I thought you said, "Explore, report, recuperate!"

Seemed spot-on to me. First thing I'd want after having to blow up insect baddies and fill out paperwork would be a nice chunk of R&R.

That reminds me of Grunts when the Orc says this to some elves he is training :-)

One of the elves says "Actually Sargent about that"

Digging into my ripoff bag:

From Warhammer 40k's (evil) Iron Warriors, something I think can fit Hellknights: "Iron within, iron without!"

From Dune: "Fear is the mind-killer."

One of the season 2 Society scenarios peers into a hypothetical alternate future where

very mild spoilers for 2-04:
the Pact Worlds have fallen on hard times. One of the NPCs uses "Remember the Pact!" as a rallying call. I thought that has a nice ring to it.

(Of course, of limited value to a non-Pact Worlds resident, or on Suskillion.)

Just like in real life I am sure there are thousands of variations.

I imagine that since the characters aren't actually speaking english whilst speaking common, then whatever the not-latin they'd be using(Azlanti? Thassilonian? Taldan?) can be substituted with actual latin in the same way we substitute english for common, and you can just use Semper Fi.

Unless your asking if the actual mottos of any pact worlds military forces have been published, which - to my knowledge - they have not.

Also, Oorah, marine.

Just as an aside, I tend to imagine that "modern" Common has about as much with "classical" Common/Taldan as modern English has in common with Latin. Which is to say, its related, but there thousands of years of linguistic evolution and a heck of a lot of unrelated linguistic influences.

So, modern Common probably resembles a mix of Taldan and Tian, with a generous influx of Castrovelian, Verthani, and Akitonese influences ( those being the most important space-faring civilizations pre-Gap, or at least the ones that actually use language in the manner a humanoid does ). I would guess that the grammar is simplified, either generically or in imitation of whichever source language has the easiest grammar.
