If this has been answered, apologies, my search fu is weak.

(And that I am asking this for the first time in 5 seasons should tell you how often I play prepared arcane casters)

Should the costs of scribing spells beyond 1st level be tracked on an ITS? I was wondering since my PC dropped 490 gold after last scenario on getting spells out of another PC's spellbook.

I have always done so. I have a separate ITS for spell scribing.

That's what I was planning to do as well. Guess I'll whip one up as a best practice :-)

The current method in the Guide v10 p16 under Filling out a Chronicle Sheet, Step 8 wrote:

Sometimes a player must have you witness a roll to verify he successfully scribed a scroll into his spellbook or trained an animal companion to do a new trick. Write your initials next to any such entries in this sections to show that you witnessed the roll and that the PC was successful in the attempt. Any equipment purchased or sold (that is more than 25 GP) should be tracked on the character’s current Inventory Tracking Sheet, denoting the Character Chronicle # (A) next to the item purchased, sold, or expended during the course of the scenario or after its conclusion.

Note: players may purchase items between scenarios. (see Step 11). In this case, players should resolve steps 9 and 10 with the GM of their next session before play begins.

while the scribed spell itself in the spellbook could be deemed equipment, the scribing and access cost(if any) is not. Clearly the spell, roll, and costs involved should be on the Chronicle. GMs should note spellbooks and scrolls found in an adventure on a wizard's/scribing caster's Chronicle as they are commonly not all there.

When I copy out of another player's shared spellbook I write "Spells {shared/copied/learned} from {PFS#-Char#}" on my Chronicle and then his shared spells as a list. This clears up any question as to the source of the spells.

I keep a spreadsheet for my character that scribes a lot, which includes the chronicle it was done on and what the source of the spell was (other character with PFS#, scroll, found book, paid for access, etc.) I also bought a blessed book at some point, so the cost was vastly reduced on the actual scribing.

I've had to copy some spell books and sell the originals as my blessed book ran out of space. If they ever offer a familiar with secretarial and book-keeping skills I may opt for that. ⊂(◉‿◉)つ

.. I admire a pun so bad it can deal wisdom damage to the DM before the game...
