How Did your WotR End? (Spoilers)

Wrath of the Righteous

We just finished sussing out the final details in our game.

I'm curious how it ended for you lot and what your characters did afterwards?

Spoiler:
In my two PC game, we permanently killed both Baphomet and Deskari. There was a strong focus on mercy and redemption and protecting the souls of those around us. Extended to mortals, demons, and a certain demon lord alike.

In the end the Empyreal Knight paladin (Named Menas) ascended to godhood and became Iomadae's divine husband, while the unfettered eidolon became their housecarl and part timer for the other good gods. She also managed to find her old master in the outer planes and get closure.

The empyreal knight became Menas the Merciful. God of Mercy, Crusades, and Love.

I never played it but what did you do to Nocticula?

Should have put "(Spoilers)" in the title . . . .

In my campaign the paladin married a succubus.

Sorry about that. Although, doesn't the title imply spoilers?

Picked up on the ques of her possible change in mind and treated her in a similar way to Nurah and Arushalae, while not taking her up on some of her offers. Last thing he said to her in part 4 was "May you find the light or at least your way through the darkness."

It does to an extent. I wouldn't really call it safely enough, though.

We haven't played any of the adventure paths yet, but we may start soon. I've been wondering, how did you feel about the mythic rules while playing/running this game? Is there anything about them you would change? Were their certain aspects you enjoyed?

WotR is one I was very interested in running. If the players succeed, then we had a great campaign. In the chance they failed, I would run a follow up campaign where the new characters are veterans of the crusades and spend the game witnessing the major events of the failure and eventually are the ones who help put together the two coalitions that try to fight off the new spread.

I knew there would be spoilers, I thought the title made it super obvious.

Playing it, I thought it was fine. There can be a lot to manage, but I tend to pre plan my builds so that didn't bother me as much. Just be mindful of your players ability to refresh their daily allotments.

From the GM, he says it wasn't much different than running a normal PF game, as most of the rules are player facing. The trick was making encounters challenging without going too far in either direction.

Parts in particular that I liked are similar to what I like when building a normal character. Building along a a theme. Whether that is the most mechanically optimal or not.

One of the characters sneezed and accidentally wiped out the entire abyss.

The mythic rules being broken beyond all redemption.

The campaign has great story , great characters but completely dysfunctional mechanics as written no creature in book 6 can survive an attack by 1 pc including all Demon Lords. When I ran it with moderatly optimal pc's and slightly nerfed mythic rules I gave the final demon lord of the book 16000 hp and he lasted 3 rounds.
If you want a first AP to run pick another one, to run this AP you would have to rewrite and rebalance the entire mythic rule set or rewrite the module so that none mythic pc's can survive.

I like high level high power games but mythic is so broken I lost all my enjoyment from running the game in mid book 5 and that has never happened before or since in 30 years of gm'ing.

Bizzare coincidence the Paladin in my campaign was called Menas as well. Married Arushalea though and lead the crusade to liberate Cheliax.

There are 3rd party supplements that I hear good things about that give advice and guide lines to help with this. Although I've had non mythic folks wipe the floor with their CR appropriate encounters. One group I ran through RotR took Karzoug out in 1.5 rounds. Perhaps its a function of the core system rather than the add on system?

I also figured it from the title (and it doesn't bother me personally), but I could see how a fair fraction of people wouldn't figure it until they already clicked on it, hence my initial post.

Do you know the names of any of those books by chance?

Hello all!

I have moved this from the general discussion to the Wrath of the Righteous AP forum. Spoiler tags have been added.

Its the Mythic Heroes' Handbook and some others from Legendary Games.

I am a competent GM capable of adjusting challanges to meet the group, I enjoy and run high level PF games regularly. However Mythic without 3rd party support(I have not looked at the 3rd party material, instead I threw out my mythic rules) cannot be balanced . I could easily produce opponents which could kill my pc's the problem was providing a challange .

In RoTr my pc's did indeed kill the end boss in only a few rounds, but they were rightfully afraid of him, had to work hard and even then nearly lost as it was a challanging fight, In Wrath the Paladin could have just walked up to deskari and killed him in single round and nothing Deskari could do would stop him. Changing things just tended to mirror the problem so that if an NPC won initiative he killed all the pc's hence I had to produce silly numbers of hp so that there was an illusion of challange. As I say running the mythic rules after book 5 was the worst gm'ing experience of my life including running some very badly written games over the last 30+ years. It is a pity I really like the AP but the mythic rules are dire

General suggestion:

In Act 5, we ran into the problem that, if party wins initiative everythign dies, if it does not, everything still dies but resources are expended.
What we did was the following:
--Number of encounters was reduced
--Thematically, in order to protect the multiverse from exploding due to overpowered mythic powers, everyone deals 50% less damage in round 1, 40% less in round 2 etc. This made fights more interesting.
Enemies were also generously sprinkled with hero levels, but here I strongly recommend for quality over quantity.

What happened:

--Nocticula ran a very cunning 8 dimensional Xanathos gambit, essentially killstealing both Baphoment (in Baphoments case twice) and Deskari from the party (most of the party liked it, because her "rewards" were typically things the players could use, and not grossly oversized evil weaponry for which nobody had a weapon focus), and very heavily trolling Iomedae having bargained recognition as a deity from most of the good panthenon for these kills beforehand.
One of the player characters became her Herald. Nocticula then trolls her Herald (who did end up full out loving her after/during her ascencion) by marrying Gorrum of all deities. The Herald tried to bust the wedding and challenged Gorrum to single combat over her hand. It didnt go well, but he still exists. Nocticula later informs him that Gorrum makes no claim of exclusivity, having been far more interested in her Demon lord kill count then in her fair self, so the stunt was fairly pointless but adorable.

--Aru married teh illusionist (the herald of N. was actually the Bloodrager), a funny wedding involving multiple beauty associated deities and mythic grease spells was had. Callistria and N. greatly enlivened the party, by having a contest of "put the other in a compromising position and make it look like the illusionist did it."

--One Lawfull good PC semi ascended, another one replaced Iomedaes herald who didnt make it.

--Druid ended up doing druidy things but more so.

--Parts of the party waited for like, 3 modules, for the other shoe to drop concerning Nocticulas suspiciously friendly behavior.

Also memorable:

When discussing plans to pursue vs the Demon Lords with Lady N:

Lady N. Being Zhukov in that clip. With the kiss being considerably more desireable though.

Nocticula ended up being the entity with the by far most fun on the adventure path, on occassion the GMs roommate played her (studying as an actress at that point), but only on the condition absolutly no dice were to be rolled on her part.
