The List and * tags are not functioning properly.

Website Feedback

I have been trying to setup a list for a (soon to be) recruitment thread and the list and * tags are not working properly.

======== code ===== change ( to [
.
.
(list]
(*]Appraise
(*]Craft (any)
(*]Knowledge (engineering, geography, history, nobility)
(*]Linguistics
(*]Perform (any)
(*]Profession (any)
(/list]
=====================

Only the first * has the "dot". Remove a "." and then two have "dots", remove the other "." and then three have "dots". If there are three or more lines of text, whether just a simple '.' or real text above the list or * then the list/dot doesn't work.

*bump*

It has been 10 days, could someone from the web team please verify this,

thanks,

-- david

As a workaround, the dots appear if your remove the list tag altogether.

  • Appraise
  • Craft (any)
  • Knowledge (engineering, geography, history, nobility)
  • Linguistics
  • Perform (any)
  • Profession (any)

You could also use unicode characters

Combine that with a unicode blank space and you can make indented lists.
    •List Item 1
      •Sublist Item 1
      •Sublist Item 2
    •List Item 2
    •List Item 3

Still doesn't work. Change the lead "(" to a "[" (no list in the code) and there is "dots" do not appear.

  • Hmm... It works for me. I changed the bracket in the quote generated by clicking the reply link. If you click reply to this post does it not generate dots for you?

This is freaking strange. If I leave both QUOTE in (you and me) then it works. If I remove either QUOTE, it doesn't.

  • The above posts show what I am talking about. As I remove regular text lines, more of the "dots" show up.

I see 4 dots in all of them.

    Picture

Is it possible some browser extension is causing the problem? Could you try another browser or an incognito mode to check?

    *sigh*

I removed all my extensions and it still does not show all dots correctly. However Firefox has under View->Page Style, the choice of "Basic Page Style" and "No Style". Be default it is checked as "Basic Page Style". However, extensions or no, when I check "No Style" the dots show up correctly.

I am using Windows 7, Home Premium. Firefox 62.0.2 (64-bit).

Do you know what the "Page Style" comes from?

    -- david

Hmm... I do not personally know. From reading up on it, it sounds like it is so that sites can design alternative style sheets so that visitors can customize their experience. But that's all I can figure out.

Well, tried different browsers, and looked at the No Style Firefox option.

No Style absolutely stinks. None of the Paizo headers / footers, etc. are there. Everything is really awful.

IE is worse than Firefox No Style, and that is with no extensions at all.

Chrome. Well, it works on Chrome. I just have to find a replacement for the Stylish extension, that I use only on the Paizo site.

Thanks for all the help Hawkmoon.

    -- david

Well I found a replacement for Stylist called Stylus which was a fork from the original. Looks like I have switched over completely to Chrome and the dots above show up fine.

I’m seeing the same issue in old posts. They used to display correctly, but now the dot-points seem to have been shifted to the left so that the first dot falls on or underneath the avatar and the subsequent dots have disappeared off the left edge.

    Example 1

    Example 2

(I’m using Safari 12.0 with no extensions.)

Those old posts used the {list} tag, which is not working currently. If/when {list} is returned to functioning how it did previously, they should display properly.

For now, if {list} is used, only the first bullet will display. If {*} is used without {list} all the bullets display.
