I talked about a Solarian in another thread very loosely and decided I liked it enough to make it as a backup character if my Envoy ever died. I'm finding myself snagged on weapon though.
I wanna be a fist fighter, though I can't decide which option is better. Using Battleglove/Pulse Gauntlet, or choosing the Solar Weapon.
I really like Solar Armor for the character concept, since it's going for as much DR/ER as possible. So with the Solar Armor option it looks like so:
Solar Armor w/ Fire Resist,
Take Enchanced Resistance for DR = Level
Corona revelation for Cold Resist
If I choose Solar Weapon, it looks something like this:
Dark Matter revelation for DR = 1/2 Level
Take Enhanced Resistance for Fire Resist
Corona revelation for Cold Resist
So the trade off is essentially less DR (and it becomes non-permanent) in exchange for more damage from Solar Weapon's better scaling, plus some more weapon diversity with the Solarian Crystals.

Why not have your solar weapon be your fists?
That is option 2. The Solar Weapon would be fist or claw, but the trade off for that is half as much DR, and only when I devote the move action to turn it on in Graviton mode (which I would pretty much be always doing).
Essentially, the question is more, is the damage increase from taking the Solar Weapon worth the trade off of having half as much DR?

Fire resistance doesn’t come into play until level 5 and at that point you could just get armor that gives you resistance. Pulse gloves aren’t as powerful as the solar weapon.
Also from a story point why not wrap both hands in your weapon instead of having the one?

I know the Pulse Gloves aren't as powerful. Around level 13 (which to my understanding is the level end for the AP) they are about even though, if not Pulse are better for a small level range raw. Granted a weapon crystal would tip the scale.
And yes, I could invest in thermal capacitors, or I could alternatively invest in the cheaper electrostatic field which would synergize with Corona and Antagonize. Or as I probably intend, buy a Force Field to supplement me with some extra HP in shielding. Limited armor slots on light armor makes choices a little harder.
Also my DR wouldn't come into play until 5th either. It comes in earlier on my weapon build idea, but will be half as useful at the end of things.
And yes, that was the plan with the weapon from a story point if I choose to go with it. My apologies for now writing in plural.

In addition to Pulse Gauntlets, there are Bone Blade necrografts (both operative and advanced melee versions, Splintered Worlds, Eox chapter), Bone Cestuses (basic melee, Alien Archive, crest eater entry), Electrovore Gloves (advanced melee, Alien Archive, electrovore entry), Painclaws (advanced melee, Temple of the Twelve, The Cult of the Devourer chapter), and Tomb Claws (advanced melee, Splintered Worlds, Corpse Fleet chapter).

How do they stack up?
And Splintered Worlds/Temple of the Twelve I'm assuming part of the Dead Suns AP? Those are not for my perusal, so while I do recall the other ones and cab look tgem uo, the ones from those sources I may need some info on.

Each of the AP books has chapters on gear, monsters, races, and other stuff that isn't necessarily directly related to the adventure. You could ask your GM to maybe make a photocopy of the page or pages with the gear involved for your personal use.
