Fabricate Arms (yet again)

It says, "You are proficient with (but not specialized in) any weapons you create with this ability."

The reason for the "but not specialized in" comment is because base specialization that all classes get ONLY applies to your class proficient weapons, e.g the reason Versatile Specialization exists.

I read that as if you Fabricate a Sniper Rifle, Heavy Weapon, Advanced Melee Weapon, etc. i.e. anything not a basic melee weapons or small arms (the only weapons Technomancers are proficient with), then you would be proficient with the Sniper Rifle, Heavy Weapon, Advanced Melee Weapon, etc. that you created for the duration of the Hack. but not get the benefit of the Class granted Specialization.

What if you create a weapon you ARE in fact already proficient, weapon focused and/or specialized with? Do you suddenly lose your focus and specialization with that weapon?

My read is that if you create a weapon you aren't proficient / specialized with then you become proficient (there is precedent for this exact interpretation in an other area, but drawing a Blank atm if I remember I will edit/comment with it) with that weapon.

Now given that, what if you have the aforementioned Versatile Specialization Feat?

I'd really love to hear from the developers on this. I deal with some serious rules lawyers already so if it doesn't come from the horses mouth it does not help in the least. Thank you.

Liberty's Edge

It is pretty specific. So no, if a weapon that you were already proficient, it still would not get the specialization bonus. The spell specifically prevents it.

Versatile specialization allows "you gain specialization in all
weapons with which you are proficient that can be selected with Weapon Specialization." Since a weapon created with Fabricate Arms is no able to be a target of weapons specialization, it would not be a target of versatile specialization.

And remember, all lawyers can be overridden by a Judge

Scarab Sages

The ability reads: You are proficient with (but not specialized in) any
weapons you create with this ability.

There is nothing mentioned about if you are already proficient or specialised in the weapon, therefore the more general rules should apply.

The notable thing is that you are not automatically specialised. This is probably due to only being proficient with the fabricated weapon instead of a weapon type, and/or it doesn't count as a class proficiency.

There is nothing in the ability's description that precludes you from gaining proficiency or specialisation from another source. I.e., it does not say you cannot be specialised, it just says you aren't. The weapon created is an average example and should work as such - so if you are specialised, you get that bonus.

I don't think the spell "removes" your specialization. It just means that while the spell grants proficiency, this doesn't mean it's suddenly a "weapon your class grants you proficiency with" and therefore your class weapon specialization kicks in.

In other words, it would better have been written:

"The spell grants you proficiency with (but not specialization in) any weapon you create with it."
