Hey, total newbie question so don't mock me too hard. Experience points. I've never used them as a levelling system in the past for fear of them being alot of additional book keeping. My group wanted to use them for Starfinder though and I've got a question I'm struggling with...
If you have 200xp until you level up and you earn 500xp for killing something does the additional 300xp carry over toward the next level or does it vanish?
I know, probably been asked and answered a million times ;)
It's all additive.
If you look at Table 2-4: Character Advancement on page 26 of the core rulebook you'll see that the second column is listed as "experience point total".
So going with your example, a level one character has 1,100xp, and then gains 500xp more. that leaves them with 1,600xp which is enough to hit level 2. The xp counter never resets to 0, it just keeps on going to the next goal.
