ALTERNATIV SKILL POINTS

Homebrew and House Rules

I introduced skill system called "practice skill" every character start with one rank in two skills and all other skill points stay in a unused skill point pool "practice points" player can only raise there rank in Skilling one of three ways
1. any time a character. Knowingly fails a skill check and they are not at maxed rank, The may use a practice point to raise the rank by one and reroll the skill check.

2. Any time character rolls a natural 20 in a skill check The may use a practice point to raise the skill rank by one, regardless of max ranking.

3. When character levels up. Before leveling up players will distribute all unused practice points to skill ranks following normal rules.

All new skill points gain in the new level will become practice skill points

The idea is to have skill points in skills they player actual uses and have the feeling of learning skills as they play. Also cut out pass and fail skill checks.

I wonder what the pitfalls would be in this system?
Is this a good idea?

I'd reduce skill prereqs for PRCs by one each, or else most people won't qualify for the PRC until one level later.
