So, as the 2017 "real time" year comes to an end, we are (most of us anyway) trying to get one last game in...
What was yours?
How did it go?
I played 8-14 To Seal a Shadow and ...
wasn't real happy with it. Good Judge, Good group of players, a slightly loud venue (not to bad, but not the best) - so I'm going to have to blame the poor showing on the Scenario. Great idea, but ... not a good way to end the year. On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd give it a 2, maybe a 2.5.
so, how was your Last Game of the Year? and what did you play?
|
Alas, no time for a last game.
But I'll be starting 2018 right, with a day full of Starfinder gaming!
wait... you always have a "last game"... even if you haven't played sense January. Unless you didn't play in 2017... if that's the case, you have my sympathy.
What was your last game and what was it like? On the "Fun Scale" of 1 to 5.

My last game will be GMing By Birthright Betrayed at the Source on December 31st. Just reading over the adventure, I am anticipating that it will be awesome.
I finally finished GMing to its conclusion an abandoned game that I picked up from RPGgeek in an attempt to get to know one of my smaller lodges a bit better. My gosh, they were great and it was super-rewarding getting a chance to know these players.
As well, I am still GMing a Play-by-Post game of We Be Kobolds that is spanning the New Year. It’s a great adventure by a great author with a bunch of wonderful GMs from the Paizo forums as players. How can it go anything other than right?
Happy New Year, Everyone!

Tonight, my motley crew of misfits attempts the Salvation of the Sages. Perhaps tomorrow, a fresh batch of agents will face Trial By Machine.
I hope to have my PbP of Assault on the Wound wrapped up this weekend, as we just need to know if both fallen are being raised or if Lady Ionnia will rest in the Boneyard with the knowledge that she ran the BBEG out of spells before her death.

Played a game of #4-22 Glories of the Past, Part 1: Halls of Dwarven Lore. Not the best scenario ever, but we had a good GM, and had a good time.
Half the group missed the session, though, so I got roped into speed-prepping the same scenario for the day after. Those maps, man... those are some awful maps. I spent way too long trying to clean those up.

I'm currently involved in three PbPs...
Last night was probably my last tabletop session of the year. I GMed Beacon Below so that some local players could get another Scarab Sages Chronicle before tackling Salvation of the Sages.
Problem was that I only had two hours to prep, and the last map ended up being too complicated for my knocked-up-on-painkillers-from-a-root-canal brain to handle.
Luckily it was a private game with friends.

Playing it tomorrow. Likely All for Immortality part 1, unless we add a second scenario after it. It'll be my first time playing my -1 Sorcerer since October of 2014, so I'm looking forward to it. I'll let you know how it goes.
Played All for Immortality part 1. Thought it was great. Got to see some friends I haven’t seen in a while. My only regret is we didn’t kill the <REDACTED>.

We were supposed to play last night (12/29), but couldn't have a session because too many of my players were unavailable.
My last game was a couple weeks ago. It was a session of my on-going CotCT campaign (Chapter 2: Seven Days to the Grave, specifically).
My first game of 2018 should be next Friday night.

I'll be running Feast of Ravenmoor in little over an hour. Haven't prepped yet. Whoops. End of year is so busy with other stuff. Luckily, I ran it before, so it'll just be a matter of reading through the module.
12.5ish hours of The Harrowing. My level 8 occultist survived 2 Empowered Cone of Cold due to reflex saves and Mind Barrier. Pre-save damage would have been ~170 and I have 51 hp on that character.
GM: "Occult classes: we're better than you."
I think you mean Energy Shield (Mind Barrier is physical damage), but yeah. My Occultist also survived way more than he should've because of those two. I love it.

GM: "Occult classes: we're better than you."
Mind Barrier (Sp): As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a shield of mental energy around you that protects you from harm. The shield prevents a total of 2 points of damage per occultist level you possess. It lasts until the start of your next turn or until exhausted. For example, if you are 5th level, the mind barrier protects you from 10 points of damage; if you are hit by an attack that would deal 12 points of damage, the mind barrier is exhausted and you take 2 points of damage. You can activate this ability as an immediate action, but doing so costs 2 points of mental focus instead of 1.
Energy Shield (Sp): As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to surround yourself with a shield that protects you from energy damage. Whenever you take acid, cold, electricity, or fire damage, the shield absorbs the damage (as protection from energy). The energy shield can absorb up to 5 points of energy damage per occultist level you possess. This shield lasts for 1 minute or until its power is exhausted. Its effect doesn't stack with itself, with protection from energy, or with resist energy. You can activate the energy shield as an immediate action by expending 2 points of mental focus instead of 1. You must be at least 3rd level to select this focus power.

Yup, and my Druid, and her giant scorpion animal companion, didn’t make it through three of those cones of cold.
She got better, though...

Nor did my Necrocultist survive those. This was my first character that wasn't really built for combat, though, so I shouldn't be surprised that it happened once. If I had been willing to flood the battlefield with tons of undead, it probably would have gone differently, but I didn't want to slow the game down.

My -1 Sorceress went down to two of them, and only survived because of a boon increasing her CON limit before death. The rest of the party persevered, though. Yay, team!

Last PFS game of the year was 6-01 Trial by Machine at our local lodge, a fun "more than you bargained for in the briefing" adventure with good tech and puzzle segments!
Last SFS game was 1-07 The Solar Sortie, also at our local lodge that I had a great time playing in! Good mix of combat and skill use with great RP opportunities.
Can't wait to kick off 2018 with games at the local lodge and our traditional first Con at Winter War 45!

On December 31st, I GMed By Birthright Betrayed on low tier for a group that included a new player who was playing an Asmodean Advocate with great relish. It was hilarious watching him play the role of the “humble lawyer, just a bit out of my jurisdiction” as he talked to everyone and presented evidence, with all the party serving as his legal assistants.
There were other great moments too. My favorite was when the bard player actually wrote a song for the adventure, and the whole party sang the chorus. It is lovely when a party just gels together and has fun.
I always seem to get awesome players. I’m a very fortunate GM.

On December 30th at my local biannual big PFS get-together I ran Salvation of the Sages for a bunch of regulars who are fun to play with and had a great time.
But better than that was the game I played before I ran mine. Raid on Cloudborne Keep with a party that wasn't really meant for that scenario. My overrun specialist Bulette Man with a pair of foxes riding on his back and his intrepid partner The Tumbler, with Goldilocks and the The Bears joining in. Also an alchemist who was Mostly Inconsequential.
It was a riot watching the party bumble through every step of the adventure and still come out on top.

My last game was his Salvation of the Sages. We got saved by a counterspell specialist. But I intimidated
It was a good game.
