Ikiry0's Starfinder Races (One old, some new)

Homebrew

I've been working on some races for Starfinder that I hope people will find interesting. Feedback is highly appreciated as they are all in Alpha and subject to change for balance purposes.

Kitsune

A perennial favourite of pathfinder players from my experience, seemed worth converting. I've tried to play about with the fluff for them for a setting where the whole 'Came from far off lands' is not really relevant but many of the spy themes very much are.

Talos

A synthetic, holographic race of guardians created by a long lost race. Fragmented in memory but driven by a purpose they can't remember any more.

Yutu

The Jade Rabbits, space-fairing lagomorphic beings with an uncanny connection to the movements of the spheres and a natural talent for space travel.

A Yutu in zero gravity has a fly speed (Perfect) equal to twice their land speed.

Why do they get this? Wouldn't they need something to push off of for this to be effective.

From a fluff perspective, because they are tied to gravity and have an innate ability to manipulate it (Like a Solarian can), hence their ability to jump super far (And the racial feat to treat gravity as one step lighter). From a mechanical perspective, it's to help make up for the fact that Moon Jumps doesn't work in zero-G and Children of the Void is otherwise an ability that says 'You do what having even the most basic armour already does'. Otherwise the 'children of the void' wouldn't really be a great race for doing stuff in the actual void.

But yeah, Yutu can 100% jump off empty air/move in zero G without pushing off anything and the racial abilities/feats are designed to emphasise that. I've added a bit more to the fluff about it, however to make it more clear.

I love to concept of the Talos. Playing as a relic of some long-forgotten race seems like quite a cool opportunity.

Thanks. Part of the attempt with them was to give them character despite the lack of memory, as 'I have amnesia' can often be a shorthand for 'I bring nothing to the table'.

Sure, unless you are planning to sell it or something. That's why I make homebrew, so that others can hopefully enjoy it.

Not sure about the Talos getting to store their equipment when going core mode. It doesn't really make any sense (if they can just turn things into raw data and raw data into things why do they need to buy stuff in the first place) and actually removes an interesting gameplay drawback (alright guys I can scout up there and cause a distraction with my voice but if the s++% hits the fan I've got no weapons.)

To mitigate the slight annoyance this would cause I'd let them don armour as part of the action to go Hard Light, essentially letting the core settle into the middle of the suit and fill it up with the hologram.

My concern there is well, equipment is so very important in Starfinder that telling a PC 'You can't bring it with you' is going to make them pretty useless (Especially since they'll need core mode to go through medium-sized areas, they'll need it for quite a few places)

That and converting matter into data is a classic of 'You have very high tech' sci-fi. V'ger, Braniac 5, Megaman Zero, Digimon etc. Still, I should likely justify it a bit more.

Do you think it would work better if I mentioned it was like them buying stat upgrade items (The tools, external processing power and outside expertise means that while you CAN code up items for them that they will still cost you dosh like buying the item)

I caught that reference with your Jade Rabbits...nice...

Anyway good job I like what you have

Some more homebrew, a semi-necromantic race kept between life and death by magic.

Akh

Been a while since I worked on this. Updated some alternate racial traits for Talos and Akh.

I love your Talos! I was toying around with a similar concept, it was going to be very charismatic and had been born from ancient advertisements hence the name AD. I got a lot of my idea from the Sierra Madre dlc for fallout new Vegas and a strong nod to halo for the AI madness lifespan issue.. good work and keep gaming.
