Can a paladin worship a demigod

Silver Crusade 4/5

My paladin/oracle went to heaven, and was so inspired by one of the characters, she is wanting to switch faiths (still LG) from Iomedae to Winlas, a demigod, Empyral Lord.

Is it legal for a paladin/oracle in PFS to worship someone that is not a full God, but only a demigod?

According to the definition of demigod, "They are capable of granting spells to those who worship them, and some believe that oracles gain their divine abilities from them."

So to me it seems legal but it seems everything that is logical to me is countermanded by some weird errata, so just checking if you agree.

You'll need a source book that details that particular Empyreal Lord to gain access to any benefits (such as paladin class features) from them, but generally, yes, Empyreal Lords are legal deity choices. Winlas appears in Chronicles of the Righteous, on page 28, and per the Additional Resources entry for that book, all Empyreal Lords on pages 6-29 are legal for play.

I also believe Winlas is in Inner Sea Gods, but the AR entry for that book never specifically mentions Empyreal Lords; that said, you shouldn't have any issue with using that book for access.

Empyreal Lords are PFS legal deities, so have fun. The usual restrictions about alignment apply, but there are a lot of LG and NG Empyreal Lords.

Thanks for the confirmation fellow adventurers!

Yes. Demigods are gods and can function as a divine source.

Though no book clearly defines deities, there are essentially two types of gods: demigods and true gods. True gods have five domains and are virtually unassailable except by other true gods. Demigods have four or less domains and have statblocks. They're gods, but still weak enough to be attacked by mortals.

If a paladin worships a demigod, is the inevitable fall only half as far?

I'll show myself out.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"No, dear, it just means that you don't really fall before they catch you and whap you upside the head and tell you to get back to work. Because it's not all about a YES/NO thing that some of the unplumaged here on the forums would endorse, but more a 'how do we make the world a better place by being a good person and building the world'."
