Hello, Nufriends! This game will start on August 13th, 2018 for PBP Gameday VII.

It began as a dull day aboard the Clutch, Nakonechkin Salvage's only ship and your home for the past year or so. Your boss, the vesk Nakonechkin, brought the ship out of Pact Words space and into some of the void beyond, looking for derelict space stations or the remains of forgotten starship battles to pick through.

Suddenly, with a buzzing chime, the ship's computers registered a starship drifting in the region. Nakonechkin rushed to the captain's console and initiated a scan. An image of the target ship appeared on screen: a large, ornate green starship with brass accents. It looked abandoned and ill-suited to be so far from the Pact Worlds.

Nakonechkin quickly pulled on his space suit and grabbed a set of all-purpose tools. “This looks like an easy enough job. You lot stay here and keep an eye on the Clutch. Try not to ‘repair' anything while I'm away. I should be back in a couple of nanoseconds.” He nodded curtly and cycled the airlock to float over to the derelict ship.

Two hours have passed since Nakonechkin departed, and he isn't responding to your communications. Something must have gone terribly wrong—and Nakonechkin might need help!

The ornate green spaceship hangs in your screen, but still no hails from Nanonechkin. What happened to him?

"Oh dear, oh dear oh dear!" Quonx frets anxiously. She tries once more to hail Nanonechkin on the communicator. "Boss, come in! Do you have any idea how many nanoseconds have gone past since you left?! And you said I can't fix anything until you get back."

She looks around at her crewmates. "What should we do? He said to stay here but he absolutely definitely needs our help now."

Dakoyo says, "I've been with the crew just a few months so you all know boss Nanonechkin better than I!! But in the old days, misguided people believed that they can survive space without a spacesuit by first flushing a toilet, then exiting into the vacuum while sucking on a junglefruit seed and tugging on their left ear with their right hand. Did boss Nanonechkin believe this?"

With a straight face, Dakoyo continues, "If he did, then misguided Nanonechkin is dead. But if not, we must go search for missing Nanonechkin!"

Nechkin taps three fingers against the precious drum set affixed to her uppermost left arm, "da da dum, da da dum, da da dum..." , I need to stay focused, she thinks. Just like Nakonechkin. When she speaks, her voice is calm and steady.
"Think, Quonx. What would Nakonechkin do at a time like this? Would he sit around the ship and wait? Or would he go after himself? The crimson-furred skittermander tilts her head to the side, confused by her own train of thought. "Hmm...but he told us to wait here, so if he told himself to wait here, would he listen to himself? No, no, that won't work. That doesn't make sense at all. We need to help him."
Nechkin turns to Dakoyo, " I know he wouldn't believe what they said in the old days, because he's not misguided. Besides, he likes his junglefruit grilled, and everyone knows that you have to take the seeds out first if you want to grill it properly. Otherwise it gets all bitter and gross."

"Oh Nakonechkin! To even think there's a possibility he's dead!" Nako pantomimes a faint. "Not a chance, no, no, no!" The skittermander hobbles around, stopping next to Nechkin, her arms folded. "Helping him is the only way, and we've gotta do it quickly! There must be some way to find him, and if I find out anyone's hurt him, I'm gonna punch their lights out... allsix style!" Tossing her crimson fur back, she twirls her doshko around with her six arms and grins at Nechkin with intrigue. "Hey nufriend, you look just like me! Love the fingerdrums!"

Neckin spins around toward Nako, and calls out, “Nufriend! You look just like me, too. With the two of us together, I’m sure we can impress Nakonechkin when we find him. And we can play a drum concert for him!” She eyes Neko’s doshko. “And if we find anyone who hurt Nakonechkin, we can take them out together. How about a double twin allsix attack, doshko pincer style? Or do you prefer doshko bigchop charger style?”

While Nechkin and Nako run around each other, they each realize that there is nothing that they — or any of you, really — can do while still on the ship.

So it’s time to grab your space suits and all your skitter gear, and then belatedly do one last sensor sweep of the large green ship ahead.

WHAT YOU KNOW BEFORE YOU GO - It’s Sensor Sweep Time!

Computers 10+:
The vessel's transponder identifies it as the Emerald Empyrean, a pleasure barge owned by a Vercite company called Trendsetter Excursions. The only ways to enter the ship are through two airlock doors, one on the port side near the aft and one on the starboard side near the fore. The forward airlock is completely sealed shut, but the aft airlock could be forced open.

Computers 15+:
The Emerald Empyrean is a modified heavy freighter with a forward-facing heavy weapon and a small turret weapon, but plenty of room for passengers and recreational activities. Though its thrusters are active, they are currently idle, and the ship has enough power to provide artificial gravity, interior lighting, and life support.

Computers 20+:
Further scans reveal over a dozen life signs aboard the ship, which Nakonechkin missed on his initial scans. Most of these life signs are concentrated in an area in the ship's aft, on the starboard side. Nakonechkin's life signs are visible, but the vesk is currently in a semi-conscious state and his location cannot be pinpointed. An additional anomalous energy signature is detected in the ship's center.

Computers 25+:
It appears that most of the Emerald Empyrean's functions are controlled by a single onboard artificial intelligence core, which is very unusual for a ship this size. However, the AI doesn't respond to any attempts to communicate with it.

Gazigaz sweeps into the bridge, his shimmering cape fluttering from a non-existent breeze. His eyes shine as he stares at the ship in the display for a solemn moment before turning to his friends. "I think it is time, gudfriends! Now that that strange interference with our systems is gone, we have to help bossfriend Nakonechkin. And maybe there will be other nufriends to help too!"

"A double twin allsix attack?!" Nako looks at Nechkin, wide-eyed. She counts their arms, one at a time. "An alltwelve doshko finishing move?! So drift! Let's do it!"

The skittermander rounds up her space suit and plunks it over her head. "Nufriend Quonx, are you having any luck with the sensors?"


"I'm on it!" Quonx is already bustling at the ship's computer terminal, and she mutters mechanical incantations while trying to eke out as much juice as she can from the sensors in a short amount of time.

Computers: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

She's so flustered that she only scrapes off the most basic of intel. Quonx relays as much as she can while shoving a few grenades and her engineering kit into a sack.

"The ship is called the Emerald Empyrean, and it's a pleasure barge owned by the Trendsetter Excursions company out of Verces. My scan picked up two ways in: an airlock on the starboard side, but it's sealed shut, and another on the port. We could force our way in through that one, I think."

She plucks a piece of spare wire out of her fur with one hand while delicately placing her quantum reality spanner in the bag with another. "I don't know what's wrong, but we should get going to rescue the Boss, gree?"

Xnouq pushes Quonx off the Computer Terminal, "Sister this is how its done." Muttering the same incantations as Quonx, but backwards the pink hair Skittermander punches a few buttons on the terminal smiling all the way.

Computers: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Smiling as he presses the final key strokes Xnouq sticks his tongue out at his brood mate.

"You see you missed a few things like. The Emerald Empyrean is a modified heavy freighter with a forward-facing heavy weapon and a small turret weapon, but plenty of room for Nufriends and fun things. The engines are on but they are quiet, oh and, and the ship has enough gravity, lighting, and... oh yeah and life support." Looking over the mo nitor again the smug little furball says "There are dozenNufriends on the ship, how did Nakonechkin miss them? They are all in the ship's aft... on the starboard side. Nakonechkin's ALIVE! but... he is semi-conscious and I do not know where he is. There is also something weird at the ship's center. Hmm...." pressing a few more keys and spinning in the chair Xnouq reads further. "Strange... very strange the Emerald Empyrean's functions are controlled by artificial intelligence.... It isn'e responding to my hails. Kinda odd for a ship this size to have an AI controlling it. I Need to check this out first hand.... and save Nakonechkin." He rolls his eyes at the last statement.

Xnouq and Quonx do a superior computer scan -- working together in true Skittermander style.

Once outside of the Clutch, you hook yourselves to that ship with tethers and then push off toward the Emerald Empyrean.
The two vessels are a few hundred feet apart, but it takes no more than a few minutes to float between them.

Unfortunately as you begin your space walk, both vessels are engulfed in a passing micrometeoroid storm! Hundreds of sparkling but hard crystals engulf you! It's hard to escape them! The tiny particles don’t damage the starships, but they might damage you. Oh no!

DC 13 Reflex saving throw or this happens:
Ouch!

Bludgeoning Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6) = 11

The cruise ship’s outer airlock door is marked with a large Trendsetter Excursions logo -- a golden rocket blasting out of a
glass of sparkling wine.

It can easily be opened using an adjacent access panel. Can you give me a computers or engineering check?

Nechkin's eyes go wide as she marvels at the computer skills of her fellow skittermanders, "Nice work! I'll never understand how you can get so much information out of all those flashing lights and jittery text. By the sound of it, though, we don't have any time to waste. Let's go find Nakonechkin. Whoever hurt him won't stand a chance against our super mega ultra combo attacks!" Nechkin closes her helmet emphatically, catching some of her fur in the seal. "Ooof!" She re-opens the helmet and sheepishly smooths the fur on her head into place before closing it again. "Fur trims later! It's time for action now." And with that, she leaps out into space!
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

But she was still flustered from pinching her fur on her helmet, and jumped right into the heart of a cluster of crystals. "Yeowch ouch ouch!" She lands on the side of the Emerald Empyrean near the exterior of the airlock and soundlessly plays her arm-drums while she waits for one of her friends to open the doors.

Watching the crystals engulf Nechkin, Nako does a skittermander barrel roll with careful finesse and grace, avoiding the sparks. She then floats over to the airlock edge. "Nufriend, are you okay?" Nako looks at Nechkin's wounds, and begins playing her own fingerdrums to match the rhythm. "Come on, it'll be safer inside." I hope!

"Whee! Gazigaz spins nimbly as he crosses the span between the vessels. The starlight shines off of his cape, drawing an "Oooh, shin--" from him. His excitement is cut suddenly short, though, as a barrage of the precious space stones intersect his path, sending him slamming into the Trendsetter logo.

Quonx sticks out her tongue at her sibling in retaliation, and then gives him a six-armed hug. "Well done, brother! Now we'll be prepared when we go in."

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

She doesn't even notice the barrage of pretty crystals until they're battering her suit. "Ouch!" she cries in unison with Nechkin and Gazigaz. She fights back the pain and clings to the side of the Emerald Empyrean. Quonx agrees, "We should get inside quickly, yes!" She yanks open the nearby panel and starts tinkering with its insides.

Engineering: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

She turns to consult with Xnouq. "What do you think?"

As Dakoyo spacewalks, he contemplatively stares off into the stars, thinking of how we're all made of the same cosmic mojo.

And while staring out into the void, he spots the micrometeors a mile away and immediately switches from a leisurely stop-and-go spacewalk to a faster, non-stop moonwalk in order to dodge out of the way!

Returning the six armed embrace in equal response to Quonx Xnouq follows along after his sister. Xnouq screeches out as the micrometeoroid storm begins pelting him.

But he dodges the meteoroids deftly and then looks over the Computer Terminal his sister is working on "Well If you flip the Wires and yank this Diode." Engineering Aid Another: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

"That might do it!"

Working together, Quonx and Xnuoq manage to open the air lock, and you all crowd in, away from the storm of pretty but hurtful stones.

Then the airlock swooshes open, and you all look in. This square chamber has little in the way of furnishings, and the walls and ceiling are a clean white, while the floor is a silvery metal. Four cages are stacked in the two forward corners of the room. A heavy door leads into the airlock to the port, while a flickering holographic sign reading “Welcome Guests” floats over the door to the starboard.

Three observer-class security robots float about here, buzzing and humming to themselves. When you step in from the airlock, these robots quickly scan the newcomers and one declares the following, in a deep robotic voice. “Error! Pets must be placed in approved carriers before boarding the Emerald Empyrean. Initiating containment protocols.”

Oh no! Where are those lost pets? While you are contemplating this important question, the robots roll towards you.

Nechkin addresses the robots, "Whoa there. We're not here to take any pets. If you have lost pets, we can help find them. But first, have you seen Nakonechkin?" Noticing that the robot's stance seems oddly aggressive, Nakonechin reflect back on what Xnouq said earlier about the AI not responding to his hails. "Xnouq, do you think these robots are OK?" Still, Nechkin is worried that the robots might hurt her friends, so she draws her doshko and readies an action to attack if one of the robots tries to attack one of her fellow skittermanders.

If the ready triggers:

Nechkin has acted! It’s now the turn of the robots, who move forward with various clicking and whirring noises.

GREEN ROBOT tosses a sticky bomb grenade! “Contain the pets!”

The sticky goo was aimed in the airlock, affecting Nako, Nechkin, Quonx and Xnouq!

RED ROBOT fires non lethally at Nako! “Must subdue pets!”
GREEN ROBOT fires non-lethally at Nechkin! “Must make pew-pew sounds!”

Quonx and Nechkin both failed their reflex saves, protesting the entire while!

Nechkin cries out, "Owowow! Stoppit! We didn't hurt your pets. But now you've hurt me and my friends, so once we get over there, Nako and I are going to show you our Doshko moves." She glances down her blood-matted fur, now also covered in sticky goop. This could be going better. she thinks to herself. But that just means its time for all of us to turn things around!

Quonx whispers, "Nechkin, I think they think we're the pets. Does that mean they're trying to put us in those cages?" Before she has time to follow that line of thought, she's getting splattered by some sticky goop.

Quonx is about to move into the room but she discovers that her feet have been gummed up by the sticky stuff, and then the machines open fire. "How rude!" She pulls out a grenade of her own and lobs it at the robots before they can continue to fire on her friends.

It falls wide but its blast still catches all three robots for 2 damage!

Nako grimaces as both Nechkin and Quonx are entangled by goo! "Nufriends, no bolt bucket is going to throw us in to cages! Time to hit them with the six-armed special!" The skittermander deftly hops out of the way to avoid the stickiness. "Hah! Told you so! Now it's my turn!" Nako skitters ahead and swings her ember flame doshko with decided force, practically throwing it with three arms and catching it with the other three.

Nako swings her Ember flame doshko and misses!

Xnouq's eyes go wide as he watches the grenade lobbed at he and his friends lands covering Quonx and Neckchin in sticky goo. He flails three of his six arms around in the air hoping to dodge some of the stringy mess.

Deftly dodging the sticky bomb Xnouq wonders if he might get a lucky shot off and fires his azimuth laser pistol at the GREEN BOT. It’s a perfect hit, but the laser fire does only one point of damage!

Final recaps

Dakoyo casts telekinetic projectile, grabbing one of the micro meteors lodged in his poor teammate's armor and flings it at the blue robot! Unfortunately his telekinetic projectile flies wide!

Nechkin briefly considers pulling herself free of the goop, but her friends are in danger. She stares down the robot that Nako just smashed with her doshko. "Charging dosko double allsix attack it is! Hyaaaa!” The entangling goop hinders her swing somewhat but she connects handily for nine fire damage with her emberflame doshko!

With two hands still cradling his bruised stomach, Gazigaz is slow to react, aghast at how quickly things have turned dangerous. “Nakonechkin must be in serious trouble!” The thought bolsters his resolve, and he shouts over the crackles and blasts of combat. “Be careful, gudfriends! Nakonechkin needs our help!”
With an inspiring boost, Gazigaz restores 8 of the stamina Nechkin lost to the micrometeoroids.

Both the GREEN and RED robots in the last round missed the party, but with the exception of Nechkin's last attack, the party mostly missed them, or they did minimal damage!

So it's the robot's turn again!

BLUE attempts to reposition Nako towards the cages...

Grapple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

...but all BLUE gets is fur!

GREEN attempts to push Nechkin into a cage too...

Push: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

...and comes much closer, but does not quite manage the tricky maneuver.

Meanwhile, RED shoots non-lethally at Nechkin. "Must pew pew naughty pet!"

Non-lethal pew-pew: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Quonx continues to try to ignore the sticky goop coating her limbs, and draws her laser rifle to aim at the nearest robot. “Stop pushing Nechkin!” she cries out.

This sticky grenade must be binding me on a quantum level, reducing the probability of my shots to land, she suddenly realizes with a burst of insight. I’ll have to get free first!

Sticking out his tongue, the showy skittermander retorts, "Maybe if your builders had spent less time programming dance moves and more time on your sensors, you'd notice we're sentient, tin can!" That'll Get'Em! Hoping his words will create a disctraction, he snaps off another shot...

Combat Over!

A few minutes later, you get yourselves disentangled from the sticky goop.

Over the ship's intercom, you hear a calm female voice make an announcement over the intercom. “Attention passengers, this is M2, your ship's artificial intelligence. Scans indicate that a handful of pets have escaped their cages and are running loose. If you spot one of these errant animals, please contact the nearest porter robot. Thank you.”

You look out into the hallway. There are no more angry robots, but there are three closed doors in front of you. Do you visit the nearest one and explore? Nakonechin is still in trouble! He might be hurt!

You can also at any time take a 10 minute rest if you need to recover stamina.

While the rest of the party is healing Xnouq stands in the hall way mumbling about Quantum Theories, "What are the chances any of the three doors could open into a parallel universe? What if the door on the right lead to a giant bowl of soup? The door straight ahead, could it lead to the missing connection between Skittermanders and Vesk? And the last door there what are the chances its not even a real door?" this is all followed by a rambling jumble of equations that even Xnouq doesn't really seem to understand.

I'd say let us go Left.
