Making a character concept and build for a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 campaign

3.5/d20/OGL

Hello everyone this is my first post in this form so forgive me if this is not the right place and thank you for your assistance.

So I'm trying to make a character concept and build for a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 campaign using the core Rule books.

Things to know: the campaign is a very low to no magic campaign as in all magical glasses abilities would be rendered null however there are magical items in the world. The character will be at level 2 and will be the kingdoms General of Warfare ( the dungeon master signless roll to Me) if you guys can help me flesh out a character with in these parameters that would be awesome.

P.s. the world will also have racial animosities. The ability scores I rolled were an 18 16 15 14 11 and 10 so really darn good

So, couple of questions:

1. You're limited to just the Core rule books: Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Masters Guide correct?

2. When you say low- to no-magic and magical classes abilities would be rendered null, you mean picking a Wizard or Cleric or whatever would have no spells?

3. You're the Kingdom's general of Warfare, so that would mean what exactly? Do you oversee all the Kingdom's defenses, the main city's? What are the duties of this station?

But based on what you've said, I think the obvious choice is either Fighter or a Barbarian/Fighter combination. You start at 2nd level, which if you're human, you can get up to 2-4 feats by then. With you being limited to Core, I'd suggest sticking to Fighter and picking up feats like Power Attack, Cleave, and Iron Will. Stats would be something like:

Str - 18; Dex 15; Con 16; Int 10; Wis 14; Cha 11. You have decent Saving Throws (Fort +6, Ref +2, Will +2) and if you can get heavy armor (half-plate or even full-plate due to station) then you're sitting pretty with an AC 22 (+8 Plate, +2 Dex, +2 shield) or even 20 if you go with a 2-handed weapon.

As for your weapon, lots to choose from and I know a lot of people enjoy the Spiked Chain but it costs a feat and you can get something nearly as good with the Guisarme (trip as a touch attack). It really depends on how you see this character in combat. If you want to swing for the fences and just do lots of damage, then go with a Greatsword and bash people with Power Attack. If you want a more cerebral warrior, Switch up your Wis and Intelligence and grab Combat Expertise / Improved Trip and a Guisarme. later you can grab Combat Reflexes to help hold down a nice 10-ft. area.
