Since I think this particular point is a very strong candidate for a FAQ request, but this is the general forum (so we cannot flag the posts as FAQ candidates) I've created another thread in the rules forum here:
FAQ request: Soldier Gear Boosts stacking
If you agree that the wording should be clarified, regardless of your opinion as to which way it should be interpreted now RAW/RAI, please hop on over and hit the FAQ button.

Isn't the general rule that you can't take something more than once unless the ability specifically states that you can?
Nope. In fact, as Obbu points out in his linked thread below (which you should click on and FAQ), everywhere else in the rules, we're explicitly told when we can't spam taking the same thing.
Otherwise, it would be illegal to buy the same object twice, with credits, which is just absurd.

I did go to that post and FAQ it. I guess I'm just thinking of how in Pathfinder you can't take a class feature/feat/ability more than once unless it states that you can. Although after looking into it you are correct, even in pathfinder most of the class features that allow you to select from several different abilities also state in class feature that abilities cannot be taken more than once. The gear boost class feature does not.

In 3.5 (and I believe PF) an untyped bonus from the same source can't be stacked unless it explicitly says that it stacks with itself. The only typed bonuses that stack are (IIRC) dodge and (sometimes) circumstance.
I don't remember reading similar wording in the Starfinder CRB, and I don't have it handy to check, but I may have just missed it.
The only thing I see in the SRD on bonus stacking when I search is the following...
Bonus: This is a positive numeric modifier you add to a die roll or a static value as the game rules dictate. Two bonuses of the same type usually don’t stack with each other.
That's completely non-helpful since it A-doesn't say anything about untyped bonuses, and B-adds the adverb 'usually' without giving any indication of what counts as 'usually' or 'unusually'.
If it's the same wording in the CRB and that's all we have, I think the Starfinder team needs a new rules-lawyer or the one they have forgot to drink their coffee that day. :p
I'm going to go FAQ it.
