Brissa Santos

Savage Tide Adventure Path

For some reason, this character in The Bullywug Gambit struck a chord with me, so I plan on doing a painting of her.

Here are the sketches I've done of her, on my blog thingy. Any constructive criticism is welcome; there's plenty of room for revision since she's still in the planning stages. Let me know what you think!

James those are awesome! We need a before picture too...adds to the tragedy of it all my man! Great work!

I too love Brissa...tragic figure really...poor thing.

Yeah, I think a before picture, maybe composed like a self-portrait, would be another good thing to have.

Nice work James! I'm a fellow artist so you can trust me. You're right thou use some reference, I do the same thing. I have this overwhelming obcession to get my thoughts onto paper I soon as I can. I am starting some fan art for the Savage Tide as well mostly characters and scenes that weren't as highlighted oh and there will be cheescake my friends. I was hoping to one day have my work In Dungeon or Dragon magazine, well this will have to do. I will try to post some pics up on mypace or my art site. Until then Happy Drawing!

Great work James. The second (IMO) is the stronger of the two. It seems somehow familiar to me . . . maybe there's a pose similar in some LotR artwork, but I really like that one better, she looks almost exactly as I imagined her.

Thanks Guy (and Dave)! My only major criticism of the second sketch in pen is the similarity to Gollum, which may not be a terrible thing, but I think I can play with her pose a bit.

I have to force myself to use more reference, but the challenge is that I can't really find people to model for free around here, so I may have to go through the LotR movies or something and take cues from a pose in there. Worse comes to worse, I'll have to get myself posed in a mirror and then mess with the proportions a heck of a lot.

Yeah I don't have a lot of money to hire models either. The Internet Is a great source of reference, If I use a pose I will use a different face or put clothes or armor on the poor girl lol. Hey James did you mention that your In Shelton, CT. If so I am about twenty minutes away from you here In Naugatuck, CT. I wish you luck with your art, a little advice don't waste any time getting your portfolios out. I went to Paier College of Art In Hamden, CT. I sent a couple portfolios out got rejected and didn't keep It up mostly because of horrible events In my life and family, but worst of all fear! I am 36 now and thou I have never given up on drawing and painting just haven't done enough to support It, I am an artist trapped In a 9-5 lifestyle that I hate beyond anything else. But I am finding my artist self once more, If there Is anyone out there struggling with their Inner artist or creativity be It drawing, painting, reading or music there Is an amazing book that recently helped me called "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. This book has helped millions of artists around the world, It's like a chapter to chapter therapy session. Well enough about that I have to draw.

LOL!

Fantastic!

Here's a final pencil sketch. My next step is to redraw it larger (16"x18") on some illustration board and figure out the color and everything.

James - that's one great sketch! With colour, especially hair I guess, it'll be more obvious that it used to be a poor lil tragic woman. You've certainly got the talent!

Savagedave22 - you mentioned a site with your artwork on it - would you care to divulge its location?

Liberty's Edge

Let me tell you that your drawing is great !! (unfortunately, my PC's have already met and killed poor Brissa !).

And that picture of you riding the turtle !, very funny...

Many thanks, Sir K.

Stay tuned, I've got the final in the works and probably a creepy Call of Cthulu picture that I wanted to make for a while as well.
