Alchemist: Is an alchemist a spellcaster for the purpose of crafting magic items other than potions?
As written, no, alchemists are not spellcasters, and therefore can't select feats such as Craft Wondrous Item.
The design team is aware that this creates some thematic problems with the idea of an alchemist creating golems and so on, and plan to examine this in the future.
Did this examination happen yet?

yes, here there's a discovery that let you craft construct
Edit: also here you can create an Philosopher’s Stone

They added more archetypes and discoveries and such since then. There's an archetype that gains Craft Construct if I recall, as well as a discovery that does so.
They also added a pretty bad discovery that lets you learn a wizard/sorc spell no higher than 2 levels lower than your max spell level known, at +1 spell level slot cost (meaning at level 4 you can cast a level 0 spell using a level 1 extract).
This officially makes the Alchemist a caster, and able to take the craft magic item feats. It's an absolutely terrible "feat" tax that I wouldn't want any player to have to do though. I'm not sure if that was the intention of the discovery when they added it, but it's certainly a side-effect.
