Wait, do you mean "lots of rogue-types" or "lots of players being shady"?

@ Delisana - It looks like a magus, that's for sure, but it looks incomplete. Does she have spells in her spellbook picked out, or a backstory and personality written out? What spell and metamagic feat are magical lineage for? Does she have proficiency with the orc hornbow (which iirc is an exotic weapon)? Why does she have eastern armor? Is she from Tian-Min?

I did not pick spells out, as I was not sure how you were introducing us to the party. Magical lineage should show for shocking grasp, I'll check tonight if it's reflecting in my hero lab correctly. The orc bow didn't pop as needing that, but it can be changed, not a worry. The eastern armor I picked by mistake, as I was thinking I had went chainshirt. The backstory however I wasn't to sure on because I wanted your input on if shalelu would have a younger sister. I should have everything ready/corrected by tonight or tomorrow. Let me know on the sister part, as that is really the only thing holding me back. Everything else is just stat moving

Your character will meet up with the party in or around the Ulfen city of Kalsgard. You can read up on the gameplay thread or the campaign summary if you like.

Shalelu's backstory is essentially thus:

Shalelu was born in the Varisian elf town of Crying Leaf. When she was very young, her father was killed by a bugbear and her village was attacked by a green dragon, which was hunted and killed by her mother and a human ranger named Jakardros. Her mother and Jakardros struck up a relationship, which they maintained for a couple of decades, at which point the dragon was resurrected and attacked Crying Leaf again. This time, it was Shalelu's mother who was killed and Jakardros, sinking into despair, abandoned the young Shalelu.

When Shalelu came of age, she left Crying Leaf and moved to the new city Sandpoint, taking residence in the hinterlands there. She would hunt the local goblins and protect the residents, and come into the town to visit from time to time. This she kept up for about 40 years, eventually coming to be seen as Sandpoint's guardian protector.

Following the events of Rise of the Runelords, and now that Sandpoint is a larger and more self-sufficient town, Shalelu feels less of a need to stick around and protect Sandpoint. When her friend Ameiko had a quest to go on regarding a wrecked ship that used to belong to her family, Shalelu came along. When the ship and surrounding caves held artifacts that revealed Ameiko's true family line, Shalelu volunteered to accompany Ameiko across the world.

- - -

As long as your character works within the bounds of that backstory, you can feel free to write a character related to her.

Almost done with the backstory, then it's pretty much just buying scrolls. Sorry it was last minute, new job had me tired these last couple days.

Drat. Had a surprise statistics class so had less time to prep a character.

As for the backstory

Backstory for Delisana:

Growing up in the shadow of one of the more famous Rangers to come from crying leaf, Delisana had a fairly normal childhood, apart from not having an elven father. Or rather, one she remembered. The only one she had ever known was Jakardros, however her elder sister and mother sometimes mentioned another, but she was too little to remember anything different from 'Papa Jaka'. As she grew older, she tried to follow her sister route with the bow, hoping she would be able to be just like her big sister, able to shoot, track, and take down the biggest game she could. This however was not the case. At an early age she showed a better aptitude for spell casting, and was excellent with the elven blades. After it was very clear she was unable to follow in her sister's footsteps, she focused more time into her swordsmanship and magic, until she was combining the two into a new style. After a good bit of time had pasted, she eventually wandered off, seeking out new ways to use her magic and sword. She would hear rumor of her sister being the guardian of a small town in Varisia, but learned upon arrival that she had left on an adventure. Hoping to catch up with her and show her the new things she had learned, and possibly hoping to earn a smile from Shalelu, she set off in the direction of Kalsgard. Once she catches up however, she is truly at a lost as what to do, but she is determined to stay with her sister, not wishing to lose the remaining family she had.

Good luck to everyone.

Hey Risbeth, your class/level line says you're level 8, and your Feats section says you haven't picked a level 7 feat yet.

Risbeth Picture, out of Armor

Risbeth Character Sheet

Risbeth's mother

Background:

Risbeth was born many years ago, in the Forest of Spirits. Or rather, under the Forest. For Risbeth's mother was Tai Mei Shi, Queen of the White Jade Court. The White Jade Court is, of course, a court of the undead. A place for the undead of Tien to sojurn in peace. Tai Mei Shi is a Jiang-shi, a hopping vampire. Her father was Marius Von'Hogmede, a noble from Ustalev, who had traveled to Tien for trade purposes. While going on misadventures in a foreign land, he ended up in the Forest of Spirits, and soon caught the eye of the Queen, who found him interesting and exotic.

A year later, Risbeth was born. Tai Mei Shi, being undead, wasn't exactly cut out to be a mother to a small child, and the gilted edge of her paramour had grown tarnished with time, so she sent one of her living court members, the Monk Misha Li So with Marius, with instructions to raise and teach her daughter, so that one day she could return to the court and tell her of the world outside Tien.

And so Risbeth grew up with her father and her 'mother' Misha Li So, who taught her everything she knows about fighting and the ways of Tien. She speaks Tien and Common like a native, and even wears Misha's old armor. Both Marius and Misha have died of old age, by now of course, given Risbeth's long life span. While she is almost 120 years old, she looks only in her early 20's. Her undead heritage giving her a life span many would (and have) killed for.

Risbeth has recently heard of a caravan heading back to Tien, and she is determined to attach herself to it, and make her way home, to meet the mother she has never met, but talked to many times via dream speaking magic and who has watched over her for decades via scrying magic.

Although Risbeth won't know that Ameiko is the heir to the throne, once she finds out, she'll be eager to help, so that the new ruler of Tien has a reason to be on good terms with the White Jade Court

1. What does your character look like? What kinds of clothes do they wear? What weapons and armor do they carry? See picture. Risbeth looks like a half-tien/half-talden. She is equally at home in Tien fashion and armor as she is in Taldor clothes, and is as likely to be wearing one as the other. She has a set of Mithral Kikko Brawling armor given to her by Misha on her death bed. She uses her fists as weapons.
2. How is your character acquainted with Ameiko Kaijitsu? Why would he care about traveling with her across the world? Answered in background, but Risbeth wants to go home to meet her mother in person.
3. Alternately, is there another reason they want to join the caravan? Perhaps they just want to travel to a faraway land, or perhaps they're from Minkai and wish to see its rightful ruler reinstated. Once she finds out about it, Risbeth will want to see Ameiko seated, and ensure that her mother and the new ruler are on good terms.
4. How did they become whatever class they are? Were they trained? Did it come to them magically one day? Risbeth was trained for decades by her mentor, before she died.
5. What is your character like? How do they treat people? Risbeth treats people as they treat others. Someone who is a pompous ass will be treated as a fool. Someone who treats others with respect will be treated with respect. Someone who likes to tease others will get teased, and someone who doesn't tease others will also be teased, because Risbeth has a wicked sense of humor. She says she got her wicked sense of humor from her evil mother. :)
6. Why is your character whatever alignment they are? Explain what their own ideas of ethics or morality mean to them. Risbeth is LN because that is how she was raised. She will not stab someone in the back figuratively (she will literally, if they are an enemy), but she won't turn her back on an ally or friend. To Risbeth, honor is important, but it's not the honor of what others think of you, it is the honor of how you treat others. She will never get angry for someone making her lose face, as far a she is concerned, the only person that can make her lose face is her, and that can only happen by her own actions. She will never lie to a friend or ally, but she will lie to an enemy. She will never move a friend or ally to the enemy camp without explicitly telling them and telling them why the are now no longer a friend/ally. She is a bit paranoid though, growing up a dhampir who was neither tien nor taldor has made it harder for her to trust people.
7. If you have a character with a Code, like a paladin, be explicit about what that Code means. N/A

Leinathan's Answers:

- She grew up in Ustalav, I assume? What is she doing in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings? She's taking the Caravan Guard trait. She was a caravan guard because her father has been dead for years, and her mentor, Mishna, died a decade or so ago, and she's been slowly working her way back to Tien (given how slowly she ages, taking 20 or 30 years to get back isn't unusual). She's been trying to find something going closer to home, and when she hears about Ameiko's caravan, she'll try to attach herself to it. She sort of grew up in Ustalev, for the first 40 years or so, but then Mishna (who was only 16 when she went off with Malius) took her around to various other countries, so she's traveled a bit and picked up some languages. So she's been on the road in western Golarian for a good 70 years off and on, spending a decade here, a decade there. She was a kid for most of it (see last question for clarification).

- What is her relationship with her mother like? They obviously haven't seen each other, but they communicate via powerful magic. What do they discuss? Boys, girls, politics, death, life, what's popular fashion in Ustalev, what things are like in Tien, where her father was buried, where Mishna was buried, who she works for, things like that. Her relationship is actually very good, although her mother keeps taking exception to the way people treat her, and keeps threatening to hurt people that insult or hurt her. Risbeth then has to tell her not to do that, and it's not worth the expense, and so on. Her mother is a complicated entity. She's evil, but she loves her only daughter (it was something of an experiment, and she regretted it after her birth, and then regretted regreting it as she got older). A lot of her emotions are more 'what I think a mother should feel' than actual 'I feel this'. She is a vampire after all. But she has a code, and she's decided that family is family and should be protected more than loyal retainers, so that's that in her mind.

- She is 80 years old, and presumably has been mature and adult for many of those decades. What has she done with her life up to this point? Actually, she's older than that. She's about 120 at this point, I got my races mixed up. Dhampir's age much much more slowly than normal humans. They don't reach adulthood until 110. So she's only been an 'adult' for about 10 years. Her mentor, Mishna, was 20 when they left Tien, and died at 96. A lot of her growing up time was spent being a kid here and a kid there. They moved around every 5 to 10 years to hide that Risbeth was not aging. At first, they moved every couple of years, then over time, as she hit 'teenager' mode, they moved every 5 or 10 years. She got on quite well with 'lost ones' elves as they had much in common. She has picked up Elvish due to spending a couple of decades living in elven cities, where nobody cared that she didn't age fast. So she really hasn't had all that much time since she put childhood behind her. Maybe 20 years or so, and she's done odd jobs since then (since Mishna was no longer alive to help with food and housing).

Quotes for Risbeth I'd have copy/pasted them, but it's a pain to reformat all those again, and reply chops out the spoiler.

Consolidated Risbeth info to make Leinathan's research easier.

Profile hasn't been updated for this build yet, I will update it if picked for the game. That's why I consolidated the build specs for Leinathan. Using a character that I really liked from two previous game that died off.

Gooootcha!

Wait, do you mean "lots of rogue-types" or "lots of players being shady"?

Belatedly, definitely the former. It's actually kind of funny, I was heavily considering, at one point, a Fey Adept focused on Illusion and Dark, with probably just a little bit of Creation for shenanigans, but as with my other ideas, just couldn't get it to work for me.

Hey all,

It's Saturday, and I've received feedback from my players. As much as it pains me to only select one of you, I'm happy to announce that I will be accepting Hattori Aiko into my campaign.

Please make yourself known in my game's thread. We will work out how best to introduce you when the time comes.

Everyone else, thank you for your hard work and your submissions. I hope you see you around again.

Excellent choice. If you have another drop out, consider me available.

Have fun!

Thank you! I will do my best to provide good RP!

Also, I may be picking up 2 players for Jade Regent at the start of book 2 in a week or two. Keep an eye out!

Do let me know if that's the case, I'd love to join.

Congrats everyone.

Same here Leinathan, let me know if you have an opening and want to talk.

The JR that I run is a casual game, I post about 2-3 times per week; our team (the ones that are sticking around so far) includes an elf druid who is infatuated with Shalelu, a dwarf warpriest, and a human rogue. We could probably use an arcane caster of some sort and a hardy frontliner, but there's a lot of room for leeway.

I definitely have a concept in mind that would work for that. Especially if Path of War would be allowed.

I could also maybe get something together for that. Would you be adverse to Spheres of Might and/or Power? I've got a few ideas for various kinds of Prodigy, which is a "Gish" class using the two systems.

My game doesn't use Spheres of Power or Path of War, sorry. I do use the Occult Adventures material in case you want to do something psychic or chakra-focused or whatnot, and I'm pretty lenient about archetypes (excepting the synthesist summoner, of course). I do allow firearms, also.

Good to know.

The reason I like Path of War is that it has a really good take on the Samurai. I strongly dislike the Paizo Samurai class, though of course one can just flavor a Fighter.

I should note that I am somewhat flexible about oddball character types such as drow, centaurs (though I use a version with reduced ability score bonuses), and feytouched (like a half-dryad). I think that kitsune tend to be overdone in JR, but I'm not unilaterally opposed to them. And of course you can always play humans, dwarves, elves, and whatnot.

I like Path of War because it makes for, generally, a more widely helpful martial in a variety of situations, and slightly decreases the gap between them and more magically inclined classes at higher levels.

They just released a new class, the Rajah, that also makes use of their Akashic Magic system to heal, support, and fight through their allies, and hopefully I can get to play one soon, be it on the boards or otherwise.

I'll definitely take a look at some things and hopefully get back to you with something worthwhile.

I generally consider the Path of War an inferior knock-off of the Book of Nine Swords. ;)

Well, of course it's a knockoff of the Bo9S! However, none of that material is OGL if I remember correctly, which means it can't be officially updated! And honestly? I'm just glad the swordsage recovery mechanic never turned back up.

Some things are better, some things are worse, but it fills the same niche, and I like both systems very much. That said, I miss Iron Heart Surge if only because of the sheer dumb.
