The Vesk and the Pact Worlds

Advice

This is a RP related question - but I'm curious how people are going to play out reactions to the vesk, and the reactions of vesk to the Pact Worlders. It was only 26 years ago that the war really came to an end between the Veskarium and the Pact Worlds - I'm betting there's still a few veterans from both sides of the conflict who are still active and kicking.

For my own characters (the two I've made):

Aio (Kasatha) - Fought near the latter end of the War before the arrival of the Swarm. Holds no malice toward the vesk - he's firmly rooted in the nature of being a Solarian and recognizes that it is a facet of the vesk and believes that they act upon that facet to maintain their own balance.

Sobok (Vesk) - Very little respect for Pact Worlders as a whole, individuals are a different story. He's mostly going to keep these opinions to himself, but (in areas where he has some expertise) he might make comments if someone he's working alongside fails to the effect of 'As useless in this as you were in war'. And he's also not the type to take what he dishes out - no matter how someone might respond to his derision, he tends to respond to it with, well, a punch to the face.

Anyone else been thinking about this facet for RP?

With the recent end of the war, I also think that can add a lot of good Role Playing opportunities. I'm planning my first character to be a Vesk ex-fighter pilot. Having to join in with races he was fighting against to avoid his old employers. The RP possibilities are ripe for the picking!

I have only thought about it a little. But for my first Vesk character would hold no true animosity towards the Pact Worlds. He would give them some respect for there actions against the Swarm but also secretly want another war with the Pact. Just to see who is the top dog in there section of the galaxy.

My own idea for my Vesk plays off it, but also ties into the Gap, and the Starfinder Society. My character isn't hostile to Pact Worlders, but he also doesn't trust that the situation will be stable minus the threat of the Swarm.

He views whatever caused the disappearance of Golarion and the amnesia of the Gap is some sort of weapon. You can make planets disappear, and you can erase memories. He wants to find out who did that, how they did it, and take it back to the Veskarium (not that I actually think he would ever succeed).

So he's lawful enough to recognize that the Pact Worlds aren't the enemy (right now), but still of a mindset that you prepare for the enemies you might have in the future, including your allies.

We've a vesk soldier in our party who was discharged during basic for making some very unwise driving decisions in a military vehicle that she was not supposed to be operating at the time. She's kinda sad she missed getting to officially take part in the war, but because she missed it, never built up any grudge (in her words "Well, I didn't fight you, so why should I dislike you?").

Her main goal is to impress the veskarium and get back into the service. She was thrilled to receive a covert mission from them recently. Less-thrilled when that mission turned out to be flaunting her past problems in the military as part of pretending to be a criminal and entering an illegal criminal enercycle race on Vesk 7 of all places.

Out of character, people loved the race plot. In character, she was so disappointed.

I also think there's a lot of rp potential here. Since the Pact Worlds had a Cold War with the Vesk for generations there's bound to still be some resentment and fear among them (even with as cosmopolitan as they are).

I don't think Paizo will play this up much given how it could lead to serious intra-party fighting but it would be great to explore in home games.

My first character is going to be a Vesk Scholar Soldier. The big, old grizzled sort that fought during the end of the war with the Pact worlds, then through the swarm.

He's tired, scarred, and worn down from it all. Spends his time teaching others how to best kill aliens with his experience. Has respect for the pact worlds, they fought well, has no problem fighting them again but he's more concerned about all the crazy stuff out in the vast, and making sure everyone has a way to survive that first. He's going to grunt and bluster around pact worlders, and watch them jump as he stomps by because he finds it funny more than he dislikes them.

Also wishes his own people were a bit more about tradition and honor over needlessly, endlessly fighting. Too much of Damoritosh's influence.
