Honestly I am ready to see what the next few issues are going to be like now that Reckoning War is coming up. As for seeing Jen do her lawyer stuff, that was indeed nice. But I fear slightly for the future of Bentley-23 in terms of being the next Wizard for the next gen to face.
Savage Avengers is indeed done. Though it felt odd by the interjection of Kang. (Still not convinced they won't find a way bring back Kulan Gath some how...)
It is weird...but not sure I'm ready for this mini-series to be more than that. If only because I'd much rather see something more of a spin-off with Ben's Poker game.
I'm intrigued by it...but not sure this is the Devil's Reign mini-series I'm going to hang my hat on.
Well I think to be fair, thanks to Inferno, MUCH of mutant-dom is kind of free fall. Between Otherworld now being run by fascist Merlin and the Quiet Council trying to rebuild itself, it's not surprising to see some changes going down. I will miss Bobby, but maybe he'll join the X-Men in the next round of voting. I will agree, him kicking Frost Giant butt was entertaining. Also not sure I agree with going to Doom, if only because I think Kate feels like trusting someone that has been in her corner before. (Plus I want her to fix Reed's memories...some how.)

Jonathan Hickman and Chris Bachalo kick off new Moon Knight anthology
I usually try to keep up with what's coming down the pipe, but this is the first I've heard of this. Sounds cool, and since it's Moon Knight, I'll be buying it.
The article talks about a new Moon Knight. Now, I have zero problem with someone taking up the mantle from Marc Spector. I've long been a proponent of that.
Where I do have a problem, however, is this line from the article: "ntroduce a new Moon Knight, taking place sometime in the near future - but apparently unrelated to the recently introduced other Fist of Khonshu, Hunter's Moon..."
That bugs the shit out of me. You go ahead and introduce this kick ass character, and you're not going to make him the new Moon Knight?!? That blows goats.

Picked up the first issue of Silver Surfer Rebirth. I think it’s just a miniseries, but with Ron Marz and Ron Lim on it, I thought it would probably kick ass. First issue was pretty straight forward, but sets up a story with some interesting potential. The art, unsurprisingly, kicks ass.
Phoenix Song is moving towards its conclusion. I’m not too familiar with the whole “White Hot Room” thing, but I understand it’s from the X-books (when I wasn’t collecting them). I’m glad they keep including Forge. We don’t see enough of him.
Avengers – I missed the part where baby Starbrand went to annoying kid Starbrand. Still, the Ghost Goblin and Black Skull seemed genuinely afraid of her. So, I look forward to seeing where they go with that. And, now she appears to be a young adult, in body at least.
Defenders #5 – an interesting end to an interesting series. Pretty open and shut, closed circle kind of resolution, which I like. They do make a promise for another (mini?) series, though.
Hulk offered an interesting look into “what if the original gamma test had gone off without a hitch. And the theme behind this current run is being played as “What if they Hulk was here to protect us from Banner?” That has some….potential.
X Lives of Wolverine – I’m still not really sure what this is about, but it seems to be Mikhail Rasputin sending Omega Red back in time as some kind of possessing spirit, with the mission of killing Xavier. And Wolverine is having his own mind sent back in time to his then body, to save Xavier. Weird, but I’ll roll with it.
Batman vs Bigby – Seems that Bookworm is actually being possessed by some other person. I’m guessing it’s another fable, since they seem to be familiar with magic and with Bigby. That shot on the last page made me wonder if it might be Blackbeard, but I don’t recall him being much of a magic user. Still, being a fable, he’d be inherently magical. And he has used magic items in the past, so I suppose it would be possible.
I think this was a new artist on Moon Knight, but if so, it was very similar to the previous artist. The Bar with No Name scene was funny. I like seeing Tigra again. This new Zodiac is, apparently, not so new. At least, it looks they’re going to retcon it that way.

Thomas Seitz |

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this is kind of throw back to when Genis and Silver Surfer were still going on. So I'm okay/enjoying it. I was surprised with Thanos...but not THAT surprised. (Honestly him in Eternals Volume 5 was way more entertaining)
Yeah the White Hot Room is a X-men thing and it's been around for....I dunno how long but pretty long. Not surprised Forge is going into, considering his history with the Adversary.
The part you missed, A-zombie, was Heroes Reborn where Phil Coulson made a deal with Mephisto to get a kind of Cosmic Cube that rewrote the Avengers out of reality but some how kept a few like Brandy. (Who aged up during this) I am concerned that maybe her usage of the Starbrand is prematurely aging her. But at least she's kicking some butt against Ghost Goblin and Black Skull.
I was happy with this mini-series and I too am looking forward to another Defenders series. (Though not with this team...)
The potential is there but the hint that maybe Bruce wasn't completely in control when whatever it was that went down in El Paso, might be more than just Bruce's usual tantrums. (Plus the fact the Hulk himself doesn't recognize the Black guy.) The other stuff is interesting but it's not something I'm investing in JUST yet..
Yeah I think some how Mikhail is sending Omega Red back to kill members of the Quiet Council and/or just Xavier and Magento since they are mostly responsible for Krakoa.
Zodiac isn't a retcon. IF you READ what I wrote earlier, you'd know he came around during Dark Reign event era and had a short lived series. But I am glad they are getting back to him. The bar with No Name scene was great. Tigra being a double agent of sorts is troublesome but understandable given that BP is always monitoring for threats.

Halfway through Devil's Reign, and so far the story has been adequate. I like the way Jessica Jones suddenly realized people were being affected by Purple Man. And I'm liking the different "superior" versions of Doc Ock. I just really hope they don't kill of Foggy. That would suck.
Thor....was just cool. Mjolnir is kicking his ass. And that revelation at the end. I honestly have to wonder if they haven't been planning that since Jane as Thor.
X-Deaths of Wolverine appeared to be part continuation of the Inferno story (which was disappointing in itself) and then some weird other Wolverine story from the one the Lives book introduced. I hope the writer is capable of making this make more sense as the series go on.
Marauders Annual - I was really hoping for better. I liked seeing Brimstone Love again, though I wasn't impressed with this new version of the theater of pain. And I don't recall him being a mutant. Maybe that's new, or just part of his game.
Death of Doctor Strange is finally over. Loved the whole story. The way the murderer was defeated was pretty cool. And now we get to see Clea become the new Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, I guess. That's cool. I've always liked that character. Though I kind of wish we could see Jericho Drumm in the top spot again.
I picked up the DC Black Label one-shot Peacemaker: Disturbing the Peace, mostly because I saw it had been written by Garth Ennis. I figured with him, it would be a kick ass story, and I wasn't wrong. It was a pretty slick (if just slightly disturbing) origin story. Kick ass art.
And with X-Men we finally get to see why Cyclops had to disguise himself as Captain Krakoa. The hybrids created by the mysterious (and out of nowhere) Doctor Stasis reminded me of the High Evolutionary's work. Maybe he's a disciple. And I sincerely hope they're going to include Sync in the pantheon of Omega level mutants. I've liked that character since they first introduced him.

Speaking of the various X-Books.....
I've noticed a steady decrease in the quality of the stories lately. I think it has a lot to do with too many books, making too many cooks in the kitchen. Kind of like what you see with Batman. When you have so many titles to fill, the work tends to get stretched, and sloppy.
Within the last few months they restarted X-Men. Now they're restarting Marauders. They're adding what looks to be three or four other books. Inferno was...disappointing. Marauders was just really starting to gel, and now they completely shake-up the cast. Including adding a brand new character when you've already got so many mutants who've existed for years and don't get any (or hardly any) "screen time". This current Wolverine story, as mentioned, is making zero sense so far. And there are plot whole galore (like how an enemy can establish a base off your new planet when you've got a deus ex machina mutant on said planet who's power is literally to never lose).
Top it all of with it seems the architect of all this, Hickman, is moving on to other projects. At least that's the impression I got. Anyway, I have very little hope for the future of the x-books. Which is a shame, since Hickman's creative and refreshingly original realignment of mutantdom was a big draw for getting me back to mostly Marvel collecting.
Ah well, I was probably spending too much money anyway.

I've been working my way through the second volume of the Moon Knight Epic Collection, and it had two sections where they had kind of articles discussing the behind the scenes origin of the character. That reminded me of Werewolf by Night.
So I started looking to see if they have a WbN Epic Collection. It doesn't appear to be called an Epic Collection, but there is a three volume series. Unfortunately, all three volume's aren't available in print form, and even the prints available are expensive. My hope now is to see reprints someday.

Thomas Seitz |

For me, Devil's Reign has more going for it for the greater impact it might have on ALL the super heroes that call NYC home. That plus I was shocked I didn't realize Doc Ock had a plan for the whole Mayor thing. But overall very good. As for the different superior versions, you should pick up the tie-in for Devil's Reign feature Doc and his other Superior selves.
Thor was cool and I kind of suspected as the story started off, MAYBE Mjolnir had been infected in some how. Now with the possibility that the living abyss of Knull MIGHT still be alive...I'm concerned about the future of the MCU. For Mjolnir, maybe they need some magic guys.
I think the Deaths stuff, while it does follow some of Inferno, isn't necessarily beholden to it. Clearly temporal shenanigans are afoot, along with the whole threats inside and outside Krakoa. What I did like was the cameo by Jane Foster. That was nice.
I was honestly okay with it, given the fact this was a send-off issue before the restart the series again. Brimstone has been a mutant (I think) but again I'd have to check. I do think he MIGHT be working with ORCHIS or someone like that. What I did like is him railing against mutant ascendancy. That was a good take (even if he doesn't quite believe it.)
Considering I have a kind of love hate relationship with Ennis, I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it. I kind of did...but not that much. But considering this was a Black Label project...eh.
I don't think Stasis is necessarily a disciple but he might have followed Herbert/High Evolutionary's work. Regardless I'm glad we got a little more clarity on the whole "Cyclops died thing." I do agree that Synch needs more love. Sort of. What I am curious about is if Cyclops does remember what Stasis said. Anyways more for later.
Honestly with regards to the reboot/revamp of X-books, while I'm not sold about one or two (especially Knights of X given what's going on with Dane and his daughter), I am more curious/interested in a few, (X-men Red and Immortal X-men for sure.) Just have to see how it goes.
I admit, I was worried that Strange might find a way back, but I'm glad that Death isn't willing to release its hold on him. Clea should do fine. I think the reason they don't make Jericho Sorcerer Supreme is probably because he's needed to run Strange Academy. (Still like to know more about this Child and the Moms though.)

Brian Augustyn, longtime DC editor and Batman - Gotham by Gaslight writer dies
Sad to hear. The dude was awesome. Rest In Peace.

So, two issues into X Lives of Wolverine, and at least that part of it is making some sense. Ridiculously idiotic sense, but sense nonetheless. It seems Mikhail Rasputin now has enough power to send Omega Red back in time as a possessing spirit, all in an attempt to kill Xavier. For…reasons. I’m beginning to think they came up with the titles of each miniseries first, then tried to invent some plots that might conceivably fit them.
The new Alien story arc confirms what I thought it would - what The Company would do if it could actually use the Alien as a bioweapon. Interesting they had the face hugger seemingly abandon implantation because the host had a terminal illness.
Dark Knights of Steel continues to be a fun reimagining. And now we have The Green Man as an amalgam of Green Lantern (I’m thinking Alan Scott), Joker and Lex Luthor. Cool.
The Thing miniseries continues to make almost no sense. Yet, for some odd reason, I’m still enjoying it. Mostly, I think, for the art.
Daredevil Woman Without Fear - Elektra versus Kraven. Round one was disappointing. I’m hoping round two is better. The art still kicks ass, and I’m still loving Elektra as Daredevil.
The finale of the Ka-Zar miniseries was…disappointing. To me, it sounded like a bunch of cliche hippie/Gaea crap. It could have been better. The art kicked ass.
Arkham City is probably one of the best books DC is putting out right now. Which says something. I’m loving the characters. I’m loving the art. The doctor’s slow descent into madness is cool. Unfortunately, it looks like they’re going to do more with Professor Pyg - probably one of the stupidest bat villains introduced in the last fifteen years. Yet another “gift” of the Grant Morrison era. Another sin for which he should be banned from ever writing comic books again.

Thomas Seitz |

Honestly I'm okay with this being a kind of two series in one deal. I am holding off on making definitive judgments until we get further along. Even so, it's been nice to see highlights of Wolverine's past.
Dark Knights is good, but not sure I'm enjoying it as much as I would if this had some other characters involved. Maybe.
I think the reason we both enjoy it is because while it's trippy at times, Ben stays the 'rock' on which things that happen stay pretty true. Plus nice cameo by Silver Surfer.
Round two should be better but it will have to be it since next issue is the last.
I was honestly just happy to have this series be done since I didn't really enjoy it that much. But we'll see what effect (if any) this has down the road whenever someone revisits the Savage Land.
Totally agree that Arkham City is a great book. But I disagree that Pyg is the stupidest or worst. I thoroughly enjoyed Grant Morrison's run, and this character is one of the reasons why.

So, it turns out X Deaths of Wolverine is only tangentially related to Wolverine. In that he only appears as some kind of T-O virus infused clone controlled by the Phalanx and looking for pieces of Warlock. Otherwise, the story is just a continuation of the Inferno miniseries. At least they finally killed off Mystique. Hopefully, they'll leave her that way. Maybe kill of Destiny again while they're at it. Maybe it's just this latest round of the X-verse, but they both come across as evil a*&$~@&s.
I picked up the first issue of the third part of Peter David reliving his Hulk glory. At least the story is interesting. Namor is just as much a dick as always. Cool, though - original Human Torch.
I keep getting Devil's Reign, even though the premise is truly ridiculous (even for a comic book). I'm glad Foggy is still alive. Geez, though, Wilson - let it the hell go. And now I'm wondering if this is going to end in Jessica Jones killing Fisk. She's probably one of the few who could do it by now, especially with him going all Purple Fisk on everyone.
Avengers - I like this Necromancer Supreme version of Doom, although it is a little over the top. And as much as Namor is typically portrayed as either a complete ass, or outright evil, he's still less annoying than Kid Thanos. So I'd love nothing more than to see him cave in Kid Thanos' skull. Go Jane!
New Mutants - I hope they keep whoever did the art for this issue far away from all comics in the future. It sucked. Now I really want to see John and James Proudstar kick the crap out of some folk. I love Blob as the bartender. I don't know who that chick was with the grey wings getting frisky with Karma.
Moon Knight - While Mr. Knight's away, it seems Dr. Moon will play. Loved this issue. They need to, at the very least, give Hunter's Moon his own miniseries. Although, I will say I think his costume needs some work - I'm not crazy about the gold parts. Loved seeing (former) Detective Flint again. And now it seems something has latched onto the belief in Stained Glass Scarlet and embodied her identity. Cool. I'm not familiar with who broke out of Marvel Arkham at the end the issue, but a bit of research tells me he was in Daughters of the Dragon.

Thomas Seitz |

I think the Wolverine with T-O virus is from the future. Everything seems to hinge on that. I doubt he's a clone. Also I doubt seriously they won't bring back Mystique...but she might take a while getting out of the res queue. As for Destiny dying...I mean it MIGHT happen. There's going to be a war between the Eternals and the Mutants...so...
While I haven't been that enamored by this prequel (it's had its moments) will agree the showcase of unused and/or under-used side characters from the Maestro timeline is pretty nice. So yeah.
I doubt Jessica will kill Wilson, BUT he might be in a lesser position given the fact the populace doesn't seem that taken with Otto's new surveillance drones. As for Fisk not letting it go, that's kind of his thing in terms of his major weakness. I am concerned though now that he remembers Matt's identity as Daredevil.
Not sure Doom Supreme is over the top so much as he's greatly mystically empowered...which is kind of a thing for him. I am wondering what is going on with the Progenitor and why the Deathlok mentioned Hell. Kid Thanos is neat but Adult Thanos is better. Also yes, Go Jane Go!
I wasn't caring that much about the art as the story and especially now as it seems that Farouk might be joining Nightcrawler and Legion on their police force thing. Also I agree I want to see the Proudstar boys go full tilt against some bad guys. Gabrielle Diwa aka Galura is the girl. She and Karma hit it off during the Hellfire Gala.
I agree that we need a Hunter's Moon mini-series. I would love to see Badir go around doing this kind of work while Moon Knight handles higher priority targets. I couldn't recall Flint but if he's been seen before that's cool. I was intrigued by the fact Badir could summon Khonshu to fight Stained Glass Scarlet, though obviously it won't solve the problem. Yeah the guy apparently was a deal in the online series and apparently had a very checkered past.

X-Lives of Wolverine continues to be better than the other series, but I’m starting to think that isn’t really saying much. I just don’t see how Mikhail has this kind of power, or why he’d be against Krakoa. I do find it interesting that, in this overall redesign of the X-books, Russia is one of the major enemies. I have my own thoughts as to why, but it’s not the kind of thing I’d go into here. It might upset some people.
Thor - the story is dragging a bit, but I kind of expect that sort of thing from most writers these days. I liked Beta Ray Bill calling in help, and I liked Thor calling on his mom, Gaea. And now it looks like he’s got the full Odin-force. Hopefully, the finale will be decent.
King Conan - a little REH treatment of Central/South America. The folk from Acheron as that era’s conquistadors was a cool touch. I liked the nod to Norse Mythology with the boat made of fingernails..
X-Men vs MODOK and AIM. That was fun. I like the bit from Forge about the Captain Krakoa suit. Nice update on the AIM uniforms. The MODOK mindscape was….creepy.

Thomas Seitz |

I think Mikhail is somehow psychically inserting Omega Red's consciousness and possibly his abilities into each host. Why is he doing this? Simple, he wants to be in charge. Mutancy for everyone (or at least a level playing field) is anathema to him because it means he can call the shots. That's why. It's more he's got the Russian government by their cockles (and thus running a shadow governance) than the Russian government sanctions his war against Krakoa.
I dunno I enjoyed seeing Thor get full Thor/Odinforce power. I was often wondering about it. Maybe this means he can now reforge Stormbreaker for Bill. (Not sure I care much for Bill carrying around the Twilight Sword...) I think the finale will be great and it will lead us more into Banner of War.
(Which I wonder why you aren't reading Hulk right now...but maybe you missed it.)
It was fun and yes MODOK's mind is creepy but at the same time, it's the new normal thanks to dear old 'dad" Tarelton's messing around inside George's mind.
Oh also, just as some predicted, Sword Master Lin Lie is the new Iron Fist. Unsurprisingly though, he still has to deal with the fallout from his broken sword and of course Chiyou and his demons.

So…with Inferno part 2…..I mean X Deaths of Wolverine….we have Moira going from mutant savior to anti-mutant uber-villain in 3.5 seconds. All because she hates Mystique and Destiny, and they hate her right back. I’m seriously hoping this ends with all three of those characters being utterly annihilated from comics for all time. Or given to a better writer.
Phoenix Song had a decent ending. Overall, the story was kind of meh. I did like seeing Forge doing magic again.
Silver Surfer Rebirth seems to be shaping up as good fun and a solid story. Can’t say I’m surprised. I liked seeing Jack of Hearts again. Now I’m curious who his boss is. Maybe Maelstrom? Or The Presence?
Speaking of better writers. It worries me the same writer giving us this horrible story in Death of (and the kind of silly story in X Lives of) is the guy they’ve handed the reins of the new Ghost Rider. Granted, the first issue wasn’t too bad. Even if GR only showed up in the last few pages. Still, it saddens me to see them sticking with Johnny Blaze. They should have passed it on to someone else. The art was adequate, but could be a lot better. Not a fan of the new shoulder spikes.
BRZRKR had a new issue out. It’s still a fun story. And the art is great. I like the idea of him being kind responsible for the spread of technology, due to his un-killable nature and millennia of wandering.
Batman vs Bigby had a less than thrilling finale, but I still enjoyed the series. The art could have been better. I was glad to see Cinderella alive again, and that Frau Totenkinder is still around.

![]() |

Speaking of Fables…..
I saw today that Willingham and Buckingham are restarting the series. It’ll pick up with issue #151, going through a 12 part story. Normally, I’m not a fan of such long story arcs, but knowing Willingham’s writing, I imagine it’s going to kick ass. In my opinion, he’s one of the best comic writers of the past decade or two.
Needless to say, I’m stoked.

Thomas Seitz |

Honestly I'm fine with the fact if we kept Moira as a bad guy. Mostly because the X-men don't have an existential threat that knows them well like Apocalypse does. That being said, I am curious to see how Phalanx infect Wolverine's history comes around.
I will agree it was a decent ending, but I'm a little miffed they (or rather Maya) thinks she killed the Adversary. I think he still might be out there.
The bad guy I'm pretty sure the solicits from the next issues (issue #5) reveals that Tyrant (the OTHER former Herald) has it.
Considering that Robbie is currently defending the Multiverse, and Danny no longer has Ghost Rider powers, Johnny was the safe bet. I mean what, were we going to introduce someone ELSE? I mean other than Alejandra Jones who is dead, and was a decent choice. I am glad to see we might get some more Circus of Crime maybe.
Honestly, while I'm enjoying the series, this one didn't sit well with me since it didn't advance much of the plot. At least that I could see. But eh.

![]() |

Alien - and now we have a new version of the xenomorph. Not sure I like that.
X-Men is going to get really tiresome if Orchis and the gambling aliens are the dominant villains. At least now we know why they brought in MODOK. Not sure what Destiny has against Gambit, but since I kind of like him, it gives me another reason to dislike her. I like seeing more of Arrako, but I’m still not too crazy about some of those mutants. I hope they’ll bring us more Sunfire, though.
Dark Knights of Steel continues to be a fun little elseworlds story. I’m wondering who it is going around impersonating the Els, or maybe mind controlling them…..
Arkham City is done now. Kind of a fitting end. I enjoyed the book, overall.
Daredevil Woman Without Fear - I must have missed Matt being killed by Fisk. Bummer. If that means Elektra’s going to stay as DD, however, I’m cool with it.
Strange #1 - damn, that was a kick ass first issue. I hope they keep her around as Sorcerer Supreme for a while. I loved her using the Cloak of Levitation as a robe. Her face off with Doom was cool. I love the way her head gets all silver flames when she’s in ass-kicking mode. The art is pretty kick ass.
Moon Knight - holy crapcakes on fire! The House of Shadows. The last time I think it showed up in a book was like 30 years ago. Cool. I love when a writer can pull something out of history like that.

![]() |

X-Deaths of Wolverine, along with the Inferno mini-series - someone should be slapped in the face with a frozen halibut for ever allowing this crap to be printed.
X-Lives of Wolverine, on the other hand, continues to be at least a little interesting. This despite the whole complete reinvention of Mikhail Rasputin’s powers to allow him to not only send Omega Red through time, but also give him possession powers.
Picked up the first issue of the new Punisher series. The have to say….I’m intrigued by this direction. That last page was a bit of a surprise, but it made sense. I’m kind of liking the skull redesign. Now I guess we just have to wait until he finally turns against The Hand and kills them as well. A small part of me, however, just kind of wishes they’d get Frank back to basics.
Devil’s Reign - as the story drags on, it makes less and less sense. Still, poor Mike.
The Thing - still weird, but it still works. Somehow. I think I want whatever the writer has been smoking.
Thor - a suitable end to the God of Hammers. Of course they found a way to keep Odin around. Kind of. I’ll never like the idea of this Angela character, though. I find her idiotic.

![]() |

I think issue #5 was the last for X Lives of Wolverine. Of the two stories, it definitively proved to be the superior. Which isn’t saying much. How did Mikhail send Omega Red through time? Because the writer needed his powers to do it. Why did he try to kill Xavier? Apparently, because he made a deal with the Russians. Why is Mikhail against Krakoa? No answer. At least we got a kick ass fight between Wolverine and Omega Red to finish things off.
I picked up issue one of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, only because it wqs written by Mark Waid. Solid first issue. Good story. Decent art. Doom Patrol. I look forward to seeing where it goes, and hope Waid can stay on it for a good while.
Avengers - the whole Thor is a child of the Phoenix thing is lame. And messes up decades of comic history. For no good reason. Super Magic Doom will, unfortunately, probably be seen again. Along with the annoying Kid Thanos. At least we still have one surviving Deathlok, although you’d think Uber-Doom would be savvy enough to realize he failed. It was nice to see “Captain Rogers” not taking any crap from written-to-be-the biggest-a-hole” Namor. I hope they keep Valkyrie on the team for long term.

Thomas Seitz |

Even though A-zombie doesn't care, I wanted to apologize for my lack of posting on these subjects (though I wish he would pick up some others that are good. IE Eternals, Spidey and Reckoning War...)
While I COULD go through all of it, I feel I'll hit the high notes,
Thor's destruction (and subsequent reforging) of Mjolnir does mirror what happens (in terms of it current form) to MCU Mjolnir. So there's that. Plus Jane Foster is becoming Mighty Thor....again! (Solicits for this are unclear how this impacts her Valkyrie status but I assume she loses it)
The X-men and their troubles with Orchis are more interesting to me mainly because they have proven to be more competent than the Right or some other human centric villains. Adding MODOK just makes them that much cooler.
I will agree with Thor being the child of the Phoenix is a terrible idea, but there's nothing we can do to change that. (Since we don't write this stuff) HOWEVER the implication that Thor might be more susceptible to Dark Phoenix's manipulations, does raise some troubling questions. (Also Kid Thanos is fun. Just look at him now in Eternals and compare that to his younger self) Doom Above All probably doesn't care enough to be thorough...but what does trouble me is does this some how cause Judgment Day event?
Lives and Deaths are good, for me, because they offer some idea of what the future MIGHT be, especially since Wolverine is near immortal just by himself. I will agree the reasoning for Mikhail's change in power set is weird...but not so weird I couldn't see it working this way. As for why, clearly he wants to rule a large empire and Krakoa could be a huge threat to that.
What I wonder about for Frank is if the Apostles of War aren't in some way connected to Ares or some other War god. I mean it would make sense, given the magic side used by the Hand. So that might be something to see down the road.
Also yes, the Thing story is weird but also neat having Death show up. I have a feeling its connected to Mott.
While I enjoy the main series for Moon Knight, the Devil's Reign tie cements his bad ass-ery even more so by basically taking down Mountain Man Marko. That guy's a load and Marc just handed him his butt.
Clea's story and indeed her abilities are what I expected when I read she was taking over for Sorcerer Supreme. I am concerned though her focus MIGHT make her more enemies among the cape sections of Earth. But we'll see.

![]() |

There’s a little blurb on the title page of X-Deaths of Wolverine that starts “For perceived crimes against mutant kind….”. After two series (Inferno and this one), I still have no clue what her “perceived crimes” were, other than insisting a single mutant she had a grudge against not be resurrected. Or, they just needed her to be guilty of something. It seems to me the entire point of both stories was to retcon the retcon of Moira being a mutant. The end result seems to be they’ve taken someone who was a stalwart human ally, and turned her into yet another mechanical enemy. As if they didn’t have enough of those. Poor writing and editorial decisions all around.
Maestro: World War M - “Hulk continues to be the strongest one there is” pretty much sums up the story. Not sure how the land dwellers are breathing and talking normally under water, but….comics. I look forward to the creative ways they come up with for Hulk to win.
I picked up the first issue of Wolverine: Patch because it’s a miniseries and Larry Hama was writing it. Solid art. Reminds me a little of Silvestri. The story is a little confusing, as it brings in elements from his old solo series back in the day, with folk who died in that story. Weird, but fun. I liked seeing Archie and Tyger again.

Thomas Seitz |

I'm not sure you can blame the change over on JUST one writer or even the editorial staff. They let Hickman run with "Moira is a mutant" and then we got Age of X...and then in Inferno he flipped it. As for her having ONLY a grudge against ONE mutant...I think you're missing the larger issue; Moira has lived through 10 lives as a mutant...and saw they lose ALL the time. That couple with her own inferiority complex about her mutancy, I think made her more susceptible to going down this road. Honestly what I enjoyed most about this is Beast's recognition that some times punching or stabbing is the only thing that works.
I'm just wondering if the Human Torch we saw was TRULY Jim Hammond...or if it was a robotic descendent of his. Otherwise decent outing.
(Also Avengers Forever showcased the Granddaughters of Thunder in a very cool way.)

I picked up the first issue of Immortal X-Men, mostly just to see if Kieron Gillen could write his way out of the mess they’ve made of the X-books, especially with all that crap from Inferno and X Deaths of Wolverine. I was disappointed to see Mystique had been brought back. The least they could have done was put her and Destiny on trial for the crime they committed against a fellow mutant. And I’m still not crazy with the way they’ve been writing Mr. Sinister - like he’s smarter than everyone and knows more than all of them combined. Still, I might give it a few more issues before I decide whether it’s worth spending money on. I’m not hopeful, as it looks like they’re just planning to have everything devolve into petty conspiracy and manipulation between factions and individuals, punctuated by mutants getting their asses handed to them by Orchis.
I had the new issue of Hulk, plus the previous issue they had missed putting in my box when it first came out. This new direction is still really weird, and a bit silly. It’s kind of fun, though. And I think it’s at least creative. I liked the other world Peter Parker as a gamma-Spider Hulk.
Silver Surfer Rebirth - I never collected much Silver Surfer, so I’m not too familiar with Tyrant. Still, it’s always cool when writers delve into the past and bring seldom used characters back. And I’m loving the art.
Ghost Rider - after the mess he made of X Deaths (although I’m not sure he can be blamed for the crap story outline, that could have been an idiotic editorial call), I was still leery about Percy being allowed to touch Ghost Rider. This issue was pretty decent though. I like when we can have a one and done story. Plus, that creepy motel gave me an idea for new map, eventually to go on my FB page. I’m not crazy about new magic chick. She gives me Damian Wayne vibes. Hopefully, Ghost Rider will kick the shit out of her.
Batman: One Dark Knight finally came out with issue #2. I’m loving the art. The story is cool, although it does feel a bit disjointed at times. Seems like that Vasquez chick is actually maybe a villain out for revenge for what happened to her family. It’ll be interesting to see how this finishes up.
Now if only I could find out when/if they plan on printing more Swamp Thing: Green Hell……..

I don’t think I ever mentioned it, but I’ve been getting The Cimmerian, from Ablaze Comics. It’s basically uncensored adaptations of REH’s Conan stories, meaning they show nudity and such. They’re not bad. Currently, they’re adapting Hour of the Dragon.
The first issue of Marauders was….intriguing. I didn’t collect X books for many years, so was mostly unfamiliar with Casandra Nova. After reading up on her, I was completely unsurprised to realize she was a Morrison creation. His stuff is always hit or miss. Maybe it was just the writing, but I’ve got to say so far for me she’s a hit. I guess they had me at “bald Katherine Hepburn”. The rest of the cast is meh. And, apparently now they’re a a whole secret society of super people in the Shi’ar Empire.
I wasn’t sure I’d pick up X-Men Red, but then I saw that Al Ewing was writing it, and I had faith it might not continue the downward trend of X books. My faith, so far, was rewarded. First issue was really interesting, even with one of the worst characters to come out of Hickman’s reboot - Isca the Pointless. I was sad to see John Proudstat being kind of a wanker. I’m glad someone had noticed that Brand is a two-faced daughter of jackal. Hopefully, Storm will shove a lightening bolt down her throat, then send her rotting carcass to Orchis. Let them resurrect her.
Batman Beyond - I missed something. Apparently they killed old Bruce Wayne and made Gotham an evil, sentient city. That’s stupid. Still, I loved the art - sometimes it reminded me of the great Norm Breyfoggle. Still, I’m kind of glad to see how Terry will get by on his own.
Devil’s Reign ending was kind of disappointing. I hated seeing Fisk get away. He didn’t deserve a happy ending. Still, at least he crushed the hand of that douchebag rich wanker.
Strange - I’m loving Clea. The Harvestman, not so much.
Moon Knight - damn! That issue kicked ass. I did not see the whole Waxman thing coming. Another oldie dusted off and pulled out someone’s butt. And that ending was brutal. This series kicks ass.

![]() |

Finally got the last issue of The Thing miniseries. Overall, the series was fun, but a little weird. I enjoyed it though.
I picked up the first issue of Nightmare Country, part of the Sandman Universe. I like Tynion’s writing, and The Corinthian is probably one of the more horrifyingly interesting dream characters to come out of Neil Gaiman. The first issue had great art, and set the tone for some creepy shenanigans. I’ll definitely keep up for at least a few more issues. I don’t see this last long, though it could if they don’t focus solely on just a few characters.
X-Men - chick Wolverine is another character I’m not too familiar with, but I kind of like her. And it was cool seeing Lady Deathstrike again. Still, I’m continuously amazed at the gaping plot hole of mutants who are supposedly so badass and brutal allowing an enemy to encamp right in their back yard. Whomever is editing the X-books is probably an idiot.

![]() |

Avengers - who knew the Serpent Society could be so….creepy. I didn’t collect that story about the new Squadron Supreme, so I don’t know much about the new Nighthawk. Still, this is an interesting line up. I just wish they’d get on with it for this Mephisto story.
Wolverine - Percy may not be the best at writing Wolverine (or any comic, really) but he seemed to be channeling the writers of the Deadpool movies here (albeit, way more tame and kid friendly). I’m unfamiliar with the Danger character, but it sounds interesting. Seeing that it was created by Joss Whedon, I can understand why it takes a female form.
Hulk ended its first arc, and I’ve got to say….WTF? Still not sure where they’re going with this one. Next up, we get the crossover with Thor, so I’ll be intrigued to see how they sensibly carry that on for longer than a few pages.
Batman/Superman: World’s Finest had its second issue. Still loving the art. The story isn’t half bad, though I don’t recall Supergirl being so easy on the time travel capabilities. Still, it’s nice to see the Doom Patrol before Grant Morrison went all acid-trip-cocaine-binge on the team. The cover I picked was one by Tim Sale - pretty sweet.
Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares was a cool little one-shot. The writing reminded me of 70s stories. The art was solid, but nothing special.

Thomas Seitz |

Well all you need to know is the new Squadron is basically insane clones/copies that are (mostly) following Mephisto. They murdered Doctor Spectrum (they being Power Princess and The Blur) and are now being either controlled or in service to Mephisto who ALSO has Red Widow in his grasp ( I think...)
Also you should definitely follow along with the newest volume of BP. It's pretty intriguing.
Danger has been a very interesting character for a while. First a foe, then a hero, now it appears she might be in the employ of the CIA which doesn't make her an immediate foe...but certainly no friend to Kraoka right now.
My understanding is whatever this Betty image is....I'm guessing it MIGHT tie into Knull or else some other Cosmic force. Banner of War will be running through both Thor and Hulk for I believe a total of five issues.
I personally enjoyed the fact this is more Silver Age Batman and Superman than Modern.
Honestly while this Strange one shot was good, I'm still more enjoying Clea's turn as Sorcerer Supreme right now.

![]() |

They finally put out a new issue of Dark Knights of Steel. It’s still a fun little reimagining, but I’m thinking they telegraphed the villain too soon in Luthor. Still, I like the way they combined Ra’s with Etrigan. That’s…an interesting move.
The Alien series is getting kind of meh. This current story has been dragged on way too long. Not sure I’ll keep up with this series. I don’t think Disney really knows what to do with it.
BRZRKR is starting to drag a bit as well. I’m still enjoying Garney’s art, though.
I don’t see this Punisher leading the Hand as lasting very long. It just doesn’t seem like Punisher, to be honest. I also think I preferred The Hand as a demon ninja clan, not super ancient murder cult.
Silver Surfer Rebirth continues to be fun, pretty straight forward, and with solid art.
New Thor issue had some pretty cool stuff. The bookends by Donny Yates were good. Loved the Simonson story. The Dan Jurgen’s story and the Straczynski story were both solid, story and art wise. The Al Ewing story was utter nonsense. I expected better of him. The Jason Aaron story was…adequate.
Finally, we got the last issue of The Last Ronin. It’s about damned time. I enjoyed the overall series, but this last issue felt a little rushed and disjointed. I was sad to see Mikey die, but I suppose it was fitting. I was a bit disappointed in that final battle between him and Hiroto.

Thomas Seitz |

Some how I don't think Lex is behind this. But I fully admit, I'm wrong.
While I agree that BRZRKR is slowing down, I do think we're getting more answers about B and his origins.
Demon Ninja clan that does murder and thus worships it seems on brand for the Hand to me. That being said I can agree with Punisher not quite acting like Punisher...but maybe that's the effect of the Beast. (or Cosmic Ghost Rider) I am glad though disappointed that I was right about Ares running the Disciples.
Agreed that it's been a straight forward limited series run. But now that Tyrant is shown, I've got the feeling this is coming to a head.
Firstly Al's story WASN'T nonsense. It was basically taking Agent of Asgard to its next logical conclusion. Also I felt bad for both Lokis. The Simonson story was serviceable but I didn't feel it was warranted in this issue. I wish they had done a different Beta Ray Bill story. I actually REALLY enjoyed both Straczyski's story (for the fact it gave us an idea of how Thor wanted to be remembered and treated after he died) and for Jurgen's story about Thor's memories about his dad. The bookends were very good, no question, but now I wonder...WHO THE HELL emptied and/or WHERE the HELL is everyone in Valhalla??? Is this tied to what happens with Jane down the road? Or even just what happened in Hel previously? Dunno. I guess we'll find out when Banner of War finishes out. Aaron's story was fine, but I'd much rather read his upcoming Avengers of 1,000,000 BC to see where it's going.

![]() |

The Maestro books Peter David keeps churning out have, by this point, just become pure Maestro porn. Seeing how many different heroes and villains he can overcome in new and more evil ways. Still, it’s kind of fun. And I think (hope) this will be the last one.
I’m not to thrilled at the new direction they’re taking with this new Marauders series. Suddenly, there’s an evil secret society that’s been manipulating the Shi’ar all these millennia? And they have rip off green lantern powers? How original. And this Somnus, while having a kind of cool power, is yet another retconned, he was actually around all those years ago, character? Lame.
Batman Beyond has great art, but I’m worried they’ve ruined the character. He’s rapidly jettisoning a lot of the tech that helped make him Batman. And was pretty cool. I’m not too keen on this super intelligent AI taking over the city. Why stop there? And, let’s face it, I doubt most heroes could actually stand up against a properly done AI.

Thomas Seitz |

Honestly, I enjoyed the reveal that Toro is alive along with a revitalized Human Torch. While evil Hulk has his own thing, it's still interesting to see this Dystopia thing going.
Kin Crimson have been in existence for a while. I mean I admit the whole GL thing is a bit much but at the same time it's slice BACK to what the Shi'ar had been doing for a while. As for Somnus, yeah he might be a BIT of retcon, but he was introduced BEFORE he joined the Marauders.
Honestly the sentient Gotham thing is a big much...but at the same time, it gives Terry a chance to showcase he's more than the suit. But as for what heroes could stand up to it...I mean the AI might not be killed, but fighting Superman or the Flash isn't easy.

X-Men - I think I liked it better when their was just one Mr. Sinister. These endless versions of him have all become tediously annoying. Still, I loved seeing Cyclops kick his ass. There was a spotlight on three of my favorite X ladies: Polaris going shopping was funny, I think Jean has been taking badass lessons from Storm, I hope the sunglasses become a permanent part of Rogue’s costume. And first things last, loved seeing Mojo again. I was hoping he’d end up back in the X books.
Nightmare Country continues to be cool, and well-written. Tynion is doing a good job with Gaiman’s creations. Two different artist teams, both of which were pretty decent.
The Banner of War crossover started - hopefully, it’ll be as knock-down, drag-out as they promised. Solid art.
The King Conan miniseries is still cool. The fight between him and his son was well done. Thoth-Amon is such a wanker, I’m kind of hoping Conan finally kills him.
I’m kind of mixed on the Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood. The first story was only meh, primarily because Bachalo’s art was horrid. I usually like his stuff, but I just don’t think it lends itself well to such a limited color palette. The second story was adequate writing and art, but just adequate. The third story was cool, but the backwards thing was really annoying.

Thomas Seitz |

Honest I was a little shocked by considering this is probably a rogue clone of his, Sinister being Doctor Stasis doesn't upset me that much. I will agree, Jean upped her game. I don't think Gameworld is ready for the pain she gonna bring. Still waiting to see how more Eternals react when they find out what Krakoa is doing...
I too enjoyed this second issue, but honestly needs to move the plot along a little more. But overall a good Sandman effort by all involved.
Considering that Hulk pulled an Immortal move by having Mjolnir rip right through him, I'm fairly pleased with Banner of War so far. Still wonder if Betty isn't Brian or something else.
(Also you should read the latest issue of Crossover. Very good stuff)
I too was mixed but less so for the first story's art and more for the fact it's unclear if this future is coming together. Second story was indeed adequate but at the same time, not not unnecessarily long. Third story...not a fan of the backwards thing either, but I guess they needed something to set it apart from the rest.

New Savage Avengers series. Let’s hope they don’t just run another 28 issue story arc. That’ll get old real quick. I’m not too familiar with that idiotic Weapon H or ridiculous Anti-Venom, but some of the others are welcom additions (like Cloak and Dagger). Still, if this single Deathlok is so badass, I don’t see how they all got killed over in Avengers.
X-Men Red might still hold promise. I’m loving how utterly badass Storm is being written. I’m really hoping by next issue she shoves a lightening bolt down Brand’s throat. I really can my stand that character. Damn Whedon for inflicting her on the world. The Progenitors seemed like cheesy Celestial knock-offs.
I continue to be impressed with Percy’s current story in Wolverine. I can only assume he did what he could with what someone made him work with over in those Lives/Deaths of Wolverine miniseries. He’s writing Deadpool very well. And the art is pretty kick ass. It was cool seeing Weasel again. I loved his Logbook page.
The Wolverine Patch series continues to be a blast to the past. Hama’s still got it. The art is pretty solid.
World’s Finest also continues to be a fun read. Art is kick ass. Story is solid. I’ve always enjoyed a well-written Bats/Supes series, and Waid typically doesn’t disappoint.
Thor had part 2 of Banner of War. That flashback to El Paso had me in mind of the Old Man Logan story, where Bruce doesn’t need to change to be strong. And now it looks like Iron Man has co-opted the Avengers Mountain headquarters as his new armor. Cool. The first back-up story was cool. Loved seeing DeFalco writing a new Thor story. The second story was….meh. Adapting that particular Norse myth was cool, even if they did have to include that ridiculous Angela character. The art, however, was utterly horrid. If, as they hinted, that duo is going to the the future creative team for Thor, I can guarantee the issue before their first would be my last.
Finally!!! Fables has been revived!!! Possibly one of my all-time favorite comic book series. Definitely in my top five. And with both Willigham and Buckingham back! And this first new issue kicked ass. There were a lot of moving parts, some old favorites, and some new characters. I especially love that it appears they might be opening up to what I’d always heard was the original idea of Peter Pan being the true Adversary. And with Cinderella back, I wouldn’t mind seeing some more spin-off stories with her. Those were always awesome.

Thomas Seitz |

God I will NEVER understand peoples love of Fables. So they're modern now. BIG WHOOP. It's boring, BORING BORING!!
Savage is cool because it has characters I like (Weapon H and Flash Tompson). With regard to this going more than 20 issues...I find that doubtful. Mostly because I think this is more time travel than sword and sorcery. This Dethlock isn't one from the Avengers Forever thing/ie the God Quarry. This one strikes me more as a kind of TVA agent sent back to stop Conan for...some reason.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing Brand in her element. Everyone is playing checkers, while she's playing 4-D chess. I truly am uncertain WHAT her endgame is, but it's clearly bigger than mutant versus humans. I was happy though that Manifold saw through her BS. I will miss him though. The Progenitors were something that came around after the Inhumans had to go into space. They are not knock offs so much as a mid point BETWEEN alians and Space Gods. I am wondering how Orbis Stellaris got them involved but once again, Brand is good at finding people to use. I do agree, Storm is quite bad ass. Though if Vulcan can take out Tarn...not saying I'll miss Tarn. Tarn is an b$&@%&*@.
For me, I keep waiting for Wolverine to stop NOT letting Wade help. Especially since it seems Danger is now firmly helping the CIA.
I too am enjoying this Silver Age tale of the World's finest. It's a nice change of pace after Warworld, Joker War and the rest.
Honestly I read that scene differently. BECAUSE those men got infected by Gamma (and remember what Gamma radiation does to NORMAL cells) that made them easier for Banner to kill them. (Admittedly whatever Titan is...I don't think we'll like it.) Also I don't think Tony used Avenger Mountain. Mainly because if he did, then we're have the rest of the Avengers showing up. And that doesn't seem to be the case.
Also of note, the new arc where Magik is handing over Limbo to Maddie, very nice. That plus Immortal X-men reveal about Scott's plans for everything (including Godzilla) is pretty funny.

![]() |

New Mutants - to be honest, I thought they’d ended this. Apparently, it was just delayed. Looks like they’re starting an actual new story arc. Took them long enough. It was interesting seeing more of Magic, although I’m not really crazy about this idea of her being a Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo. And, damn, it’s S’ym! I don’t think I’ve seen that mofo since the Inferno issue of What If?. And I see they did bring Pryor back - damn I love that costume.
Avengers was adequate. One thing I love about team books, they usually give some time to characters who never seem to last in solo runs. Not every character has what it takes to carry a book on their own. I didn’t collect the comics when Jane had the power of Thor. The costume looked cool. This whole multiverse Mephisto war is getting kind of long in the tooth, though. If they don’t get on with it soon, I may have to drop the title.
Devil’s Reign Omega was kind of disappointing. Mostly just setting up future plot points for books I probably won’t bother with.
Punisher - I’m not sure I’m going to keep going with this one. It just seems kind of…..silly. He’s not very Punisher at all. I think it comes from Marvel just really not knowing how to handle such a character.
Hulk had part 3 of Banner of War. It was still interesting, but it seems to me that Hulk, much like Superman, is a tough character to write. His power levels keep getting ridiculously amplified. It seems weird that Ghost Odin is the one trying to get everyone to calm the hell down. Still, I look forward to Thor Smash!
Moon Knight - I’m still loving the hell out of this book. The whole priest aspect (or maybe warrior monk) is really cool. I’m loving Tigra. I’m still not too crazy about this new Zodiac, mostly because he just kind of came out of nowhere as this uber-badass. I’d have preferred some kind of villainous character development. He’s got a zodiac crew, though, so that’s at least keeping with some history. I’m really hoping they show something of their journey through The Path next issue. I’d be cool if they didn’t, though, since skipping it might lead to a final conclusion to this initial Zodiac story arc.

Thomas Seitz |

Nope New Mutants (much like X-men and X-force) are going on. And yes this is a new story arc, one that I find intriguing. As for S'ym, I mean he had a cameo in Strange Academy. So there's that. Also Limbo is a dimension (much the same way Dormammu is/was Sorcerer Surpreme of HIS dimension) so it make sense to me. Maddie seems to be about where we left here post Krakoa.
The multiversa Mephisto War is the feature, even if it's going on long. It's something Aaron has been building towards since 2018. So I'm doubting it will end any time soon. Jane's arc in this has been good. I just hope she can hold out for a while before trying to take Mjolnir back.
Honestly I'm glad to see we have some resolutions, even if Fisk is now in the same boat/category as a certain ex-president in this world. I am glad Luke (and indeed Danny) have more of an outsourced role in the upcoming future of the Marvel Comics/Earth-616. While I'm not convinced that Elektra is telling the whole truth, I do think she wants to kill the Hand. We'll see if that brings her and Matt into conflict with Frank. Also I can't wait to see this new Thunderbolts team. (I hope it works out for Clint but I doubt it...)
I am going to stay on if only see where it goes. Frank is being himself, just not the self we saw when he was doing his thing in Matthew Rosenberg. Characters change. It happens. Marvel KNOWS how to handle Frank. They just want to showcase Frank as less of a hero this time.
Hulk isn't Superman. Hulk can be defeated. He just takes an inordinate amount of punishment to get there. Plus the fact Thor has the Odinforce...so there's that. With regards to Odin, I think Odin realizes (something neither Thor nor Tony do) there is more going on with Bruce's 'Titan' than either knows. I am a little annoyed with green skinned Thor since the last time he got Gamma infected, he went full lightning.
I agree this book is good, but what I enjoy is figuring out Zodiac. He's different from your typical Moon Knight foes. He's very invested in seeing Marc break from what he considers "norms' and rules. I also think the price Khonshu might inflict on Marc might be more than anyone expects. So we'll see. I'm glad Tigra is there though. That moment between her and Marc was great.
One FURTHER thing, EVERYONE should be reading Legion of X. An eclectic cast, with some truly mind bending visuals. It is the successor to Way of X, but even better cast and some truly interesting takes on Arrako's view on religion along side reinterpreting the 3 laws of Krakoa. (Plus Nightcrawler is doing well!)

The most recent story arc in the new Alien series finished up. The story was, for the most part, unremarkable. It did have a cool little bit regarding the main character - she has a rare genetic disorder, which is slowly killing her, but which also makes her unsuitable to act as a host for the Xenomorphs. I thought that was kind of neat, and fairly logical.
King Conan is still okay, but dragging bit. Still, this issue had a lot about Thoth-Amon, which was cool. I liked this backstory better than the one Darkhorse did years ago. That’s a character I’d love to see done in a Conan movie.
The only problem with Ghost Rider so far is….not a lot of Ghost Rider. It’s mostly Johnny, traveling around and running into trouble, then GR shows up right at the end to fight. Hopefully, that’ll change as the series develops. I do like the road trip aspect, though. This magic chick with the FBI kind of reminds me of DC’s Black Alice. In the looks department at least. Her powers and attitude, however, seem more like Constantine, though he pulls it off better. And now we have another new secret-cabal-of-magic-users-who-will-probably-be-written-as-being-around-fo rever.
Strange - Damn! Clea is badass! She’s certainly come a long way since her days as an apprentice. Loved her Faltine look. I wonder if this Rose they showed is still Richard Fisk, or someone new. I’m not too thrilled with this Blasphemy Cartel, though. Yet another secret, evil super organization. And it looks like they’re bringing Randall Spector back into the mix. I was never too happy about Howard Mackie bringing him back from the dead. His original story arc as the Hatchet Man was cool.

Thomas Seitz |

Aliens is played out. Comics even more so.
While I'd enjoy this series more if I had something other than old Conan...not sure I'm ready to try out other than in complete graphic novel format.
Honestly I like this because it feels more...horror driven because when Ghost Rider DOES come out, it's kind of blood crap storm that Johnny has to deal with later. Which I think is what Benjamin Percy is going for. Which is fine. As for the new cabal...eh. I mean they seem more like hidden in the shadows deal. I'm sure though once we get to know more about them, the rest of the magic community will too.
I do agree Clea has gotten some major levels going since her early days. (And yes the Rose is Richard Fisk. He got ressed by Dad just before Dad vacated the Mayor's office and people think he might be dead.) The Cartel though I think might be more of an offshoot of another org. But we'll see. I am glad to see Shadow Knight coming back, but we'll see if that's enough to hurt Clea considering her rampage of late.
Moving on to titles that came out that Zombie 'missed'
Knights of X continues it's part Excalibur, part Knight quest. I am wondering if Merlyn isn't truly in over his head...but we'll see. Nice to see a less evil/dickish Mordred. Though I feel like we might be only getting half the story again.
Avengers forever gives us a different kind of T'Challa, one that feels a little like Superman but at the same time Spider-man too. Still think King Killmonger is over-rated. Of the Masters, I think only three I find intriguing/interesting, Kid Thanos (He's THANOS!!) Doom Supreme (who I think even regular Doom might find a little intimating) and Phoenix. But thanks to being stuck inside star, T'Challa now has the Star brand...or maybe he's got the Hawk God. Unclear.
Captain Marvel's ending is weird but considering she's in the clutches of magic...not surprising. I feel bad for Binary who really isn't Carol...even if she's got some of Carol's traits. I hope she sticks around.
So apparently Carnage is off to kill gods. Weird but considering Knull did it first...unsurprising. Though honestly in a fight, Gorr beats Carnage, symbiote not withstanding.
I really like X-men 92 House of XCII. It's like the cooler cousin of our current X-men but with Jubilee being more central. (Also the fact she makes Big bangs happen is neat.)
Miles on another Earth is cool but I don't feel like we need to waste so much time on a world (or even dimensional demi-plane) that isn't going anywhere. But whatever. Old Man Peter shows up so that's something.

New issue of Marauders. The writing is kind of weak so far, and most of the characters are meh. Except Cassandra Nova. She’s weirdly entertaining. If they made it just her, it’d probably be better.
The new Savage Avengers series is probably one I’ll drop. It looks like they’re already setting up to pull a similar 20-something part story as the last one. This one seems to be ultimately stopping Set. With some Deathlok tracking Conan for good measure. Not sure I’m liking this more modern version of Deathlok.
X-Men Red - damn, I love Magneto. Although I’m not too crazy about Storm’s new outfit.
Wolverine - this new arc continues to be fun. Percy’s not the greatest writer (by far), but he does stuff with Deadpool pretty well.
Dark Knights of Steel - so now we’ve got the Titans. And Ra’s/Etrigan seemed to be hinting at some greater threat, maybe setting up a sequel if this series sells well. And, hey, Beast Boy as dragon - he’s finally more badass.
Batman Beyond - seems they’re taking the opportunity to further redefine that future era. No Bruce. Now no Commissioner Gordon. That dude Lumos is so lame, though.
Thor - so first it was Hulked Out Thor, now we’ve got Power of Thor Hulk. That last part of the story should be a knock down drag out. Still, this new paradigm of a Hulk personality possessing people is kind of weird. Makes me wonder if it’s something to do with Leader. I hope not. They should give him a rest.
Nightmare Country - I always like The Corinthian, so this series is fun. And now it looks like we’ve got an Angel in the mix. Interesting.
Moon Knight Black, White & Blood - the first story was kind of lame, with art that was half-asses and rough. The second story was better, both writing and art. It was cool to see Jake and Steven again. The third story was adequate, but that’s about it.

![]() |

World War M - it was kind of nice to see Maestro kind of getting his ass kicked by crazy Namor and Giganto. I hope they don’t follow this up with another series.
New Mutants - I’m not sure how we got both old and young Magik, but at least this story has been a nice change of pace from the Shadow King stuff.
Silver Surfer Rebirth is over and done. It was a fun, but simple story, with great art. Not sure if it’s leading into anything more, but if that “more” included the two Ron’s working together, I might be up for it.
X-Men - I keep forgetting we’ll be getting a new team soon. Hopefully, it’ll be good characters. This is whole which Sinister is the real one is so damned annoying. I kind of wish they’d just kill them all and be done with it.
World’s Finest - still a decent story, but it seems they could have finished it this issue. Maybe even last issue. The combined Superman/Batman was a little silly.
Moon Knight - poor Soldier. He didn’t even get to put up a fight. Loved the Zombie Fists, but the travel through the magic corridor could have been a whole issue unto itself. I liked seeing Steven Grant again, but the dialogue makes me think they might be basing him off that lame version from the TV show. I prefer the “real” Steven (i.e. the original comic book version).
Fables is once again proving there are at least some writers who still no how to tell a good story. Glad to see Cinderella back, and I love the explanation. It was so very like her. Another kill anything arrow. I remember what one of those things did to Boy Blue. Pan is damned creepy. And I’ll never be able to see Tinkerbell the same way again.

![]() |

Avengers - an interesting story. Overall, however, I think I’m getting tired of this series. The Mephisto story has been dragging on too long. I’m very much considering dropping the title.
BRZRKR is still a fun series, but the last few issues have been kind of weak. I think part of the problem is the time between issues.
I’m really not sure why they did this Wolverine Patch series. Maybe it was just that Disney wanted another one and Hama was in need of a paycheck. Either way, I don’t think the writing is up to his old standards. The story started off okay, but now it’s just getting muddied and boring. Thankfully, I think there are only two issues left.
X-Men Red is one of the better of the current X-books. The other being X-Men. A case could be made for the current Wolverine story arc, but overall that books writing is hit and miss. Every other X titles is either so-so, or not even worthy of my money. Anyway, Isca is one of the most pointless characters I think they’ve invented in a long time. Her only reason for existence seems to be coming off smarmy while reminding everyone she can’t lose. Very one-dimensional. I loved the stuff between Wrongslide and Roberto. The stuff about Xandra seemed to be focused on setting up some upcoming story.
