Grand Lodge 5/5

So I recently was thumbing through my books, looking for character concepts, when I spotted something in Animal Archive that gave me pause. Now I understand why mount selection for cavaliers and paladins was restricted to the mounts mentioned in the class descriptions, as it would be chaos if people could select anything they wanted, or it was left to Table GM control.

However, Animal Archives has a list of Racially appropriate mounts, animal companions, familiars, and battle pets on page 5. I would like to suggest that Animal Archive's Additional Resources be update to allow Mount selection from that list as an approved resource. These could remain racial selections increasing some variety in mounts; additionally it would provide some use for certain races on Undersized Mount from the Advanced Class Guide, as one or two of these options are small enough to use that feat.

There is a boon called mounted tradition that does just that for the races.

As I recall, Mounted Tradition only offered one mount option per race, and some of them didn't match up with the racial list presented in Animal Archive. Additionally, some (the half-orc options in particular) would make Undersized Mount a much more viable feat option. One reason I mention this is in many situations having the Medium sized mount for a mounted character (ESP mounted Paladin or Cavalier) is much less disruptive to a table than the large sized mounts tend to be.

There's another Boon besides Mounted Tradition that opened up one or two other options for the Core races (such as Elk for Elf, IIRC), and increased your effective Druid Level if you picked something basic (like Humans with a Horse, IIRC).

I'm sure somebody will quote it more fully here eventually.

It is Ancestral Ally. My core ranger uses it for his horse as Boon Companion doesn't exist in core. It costs 5pp and raises your effective druid level by 1 for certain specific animal companion types, dependant on your race.
