I would like to start up a game that uses ideas and material from Horror Adventures. I would greatly appreciate advice on what actually works, what just needs a little tweaking, and what is best avoided. I will likely be using Meetup to gather the group for this game, this I can not consult my players at this time. Thank you in advance.

My advise isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I'm in a similar boat in that I'm preparing to start my own Ravenloft-esque horror game using HA.
My plan is to integrate the 7-step Fear system from HA, use Corruptions sparingly, and leave out Sanity entirely.
My reasons are as follows:
1. The Fear system fits well into the D20/Pathfinder rules.
2. My players' concepts have some peculiarities that are going to obviate much of the use of Corruption, but I'll probably use some items in pieces as needed.
3. Sanity rules are okay, but I feel like using both Sanity and Fear would hinder the characters and add way too much book-keeping for my taste.
