Know Direction interview with Starfinder Society team (March 22)

General Discussion

Know Direction link, Twitch channel. I'm not sure what time it'll be, it lists starting at 8:30 p.m. with no time zone, so I assume it's 8:30 p.m. Eastern US time/5:30 p.m. Pacific? That's what the GCal event has, at least.

Dropping a thread in here for discussion of the interview. I won't be able to watch live since it's on Twitch so I'll follow up with a transcript when the podcast comes out, but if anyone is watching live it'd be awesome if folks could drop some notable details in here.

It was a good discussion. Lots of info.

I will put spoilers in here in case people don't want some of the info.

SFS Boons:
There will be boons, but the system is apparently somewhat different than PFS. There will be different categories in scenarios for different things. For example, they mentioned a Ship boon slot, where after you get the mission briefing you can slot it in your Starship boon slot. There will also be faction boons. There will also be items on boons that will not be in the Core book.

SFS Plots:
There will be seasonal meta-plots, similar to PFS

Regional Support System:
There will be regional support system as there is for PFS, or something similar.

Initial SFS Releases:
There will be three scenarios, a pre-gen special and a quest released at GenCon or thereabouts.

Pre-gens:
Appears there will be pre-gens and they will be transferable to actual character. There will not be L7 pre-gens however, at least to start.

Prestige and Fame:
Prestige and fame will be different. Not much other info on this.

First Faction Announced:
The first faction announced is the Dataphiles, who are info (data) specialists. They are based in the "Lorespire", which gave me a bit of a chuckle

Only caught the first hour and a half. It was, naturally, mostly SFS stuff.

The only thing I heard that was outside of it was that there's an unrevealed system that'll feed into what ship combat roles people are good at.

But there was also a mention that some of the early SFS scenarios will have new equipment and stuff in them, which is a bit of extra content I hadn't considered. They'll also be expanding the universe in a lot of ways PFS didn't, visiting planets we're unlikely to see in other places.

Kind of makes getting them tempting even if I weren't planning on running them for SFS.

Cheers!
Landon

Has anyone heard anything about GM stars between Pathfinder and Starfinder?

I expect that they would be kept separate due to the scenario replay mechanic and that the games themselves are completely different systems, but the odds that something similar will exist?

Silver Crusade

They already said they would be different GM stars between the two games.

Could that be the theme system they mentioned? i thought they mentioned an Ace Pilot theme that any character could take for extra things to do with ships or bonuses to actions taken in ship combat.

No; ship roles and themes seem to be different systems. Scholar and Outlaw were other themes they have mentioned and I don't believe those are ship roles.

Scholar would feed into the science officer, and Outlaw might benefit gunners.

They are different systems, but themes can feed into ship roles by altering what things your character is skilled at.
