Tatterman on the Loose?

Strange Aeons

So it seems as though my party has had to retreat from the Tatterman fight instead of finishing it. From here, I'm thinking I could run it one of two ways:

1.) The fog has lifted (it says it does so on Zandalus's defeat, not necessarily the Tatterman's defeat) and Tatterman is now free to wreak havoc on Golarion. He likely targets Thrushmoor first and murders people and/or allies with the Cult of Hastur there. If I really wanted to I could have him be a continuing menace, hopefully culminating with reuniting with the Briarstone Witch in the final chapter (who according to the campaign outline will appear then).

2.) The fog hasn't lifted, and he goes on a killing spree throughout the asylum, until the players head back to kill him.

Problem with the second one: I don't really know how the party would be able to rest, other then just saying that the Shrine of Desna repels the Tatterman.

Problem with the first one: I now need to figure out ways to keep him as a constant presence in the later chapters (or at least in the second chapter). I'd definitely need to upgrade him as well for later encounters.

I'm posting this post to see what suggestions everyone else has. How are my ideas, do you have any other ideas, etc. Thanks!

Personally, I'd go with Option 1. Recurring villains are always fun, since the PCs have an attachment to them. Plus, they often get new tricks!

I'd also go with the recurring villain angle. Since the Tatterman was pretty much localized on Briarstone Isle, I'd consider having him have some sort of connection to one of the PCs (and have that PC be the primary target of the Tatterman), since Ulver was the catalyst for the Tatterman being more present in the asylum.

Tatterman being free in Thrushmoor could make for some fun Jack The Ripper situations

In my campaign the Tatterman actually defeated my group.
But he didn`t immediately kill them because:

1. They somehow survived being killed by him in their dreams, which hugely interests him, so he wants to find out how and why in due time.

2. The Tatterman is a Predator, but he hunts more to spread fear and pain than for the kill itself, and there is a large room full of easy prey just a few feet away.

[3. Otherwise the campaign would have ended right there :) ]

While the PC`s where unconcious the Tatterman went on a rampage on briarstone grounds, using these sacrifices and the monotliths Ariadnah build so long ago to power a ritual to bring Briarstone to his master, transporting the whole island to Carcosa.

When they awoke, the ritual was almost finished, so they had to get their bearings and flee the island before it vanished.

This allowed me to foreshadow what was about to happen in Thrushmoor, and also have the Tatterman ready as a recurring villain.
