Improving Constructs

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is there some way to make a construct better? Or do I just have to wait until I can craft the next one up?

For example, say I'm making a Clockwork Soldier (CR 6). Is there some way I can increase it's CR, or do I have to just wait until I can craft a different construct, such as a Clockwork Mage or Leviathan or whatever?

Ultimate magic has rules for upgrading consteucts.

Sweet thanks.

Two more questions.

1) Can you do this to the Clockwork Familiar?

2) What CL do you actually have to have to get a Clockwork Familiar? Under the Improved Familiar feat it says 7, but when looking at the Clockwork Familiar itself it says 12.

Another question.

The Clockwork Familiar is listed as having both a Con and Int score. The Int I can understand, but how does the Con work with the normal Construct traits?

You are confusing the CL needed to create the Clockwork Familiar with the level needed to make an existing Clockwork Familiar into their familiar.

The Con listing is a specific override to the construct general qualities. Since this creature's score is the assumed effective value for DCs, there is no change for any DC from it. However, if you modified the construct to grant more Con, then the DCs would improve.

Ah. So does the feat mean you don't have to pay for it?

And can you still modify it like a normal construct?

The improved familiar feat lets you make an existing (full price) clockwork familiar into your familiar at 7th level.
You need the craft construct feat to make the creature or to make modifications.

Gotcha. Thanks for the help.
