The Muted God

So way back at the start of Pathfinder Society Organized Play there was a scenario called "Hands of the Muted God." This scenario essentially introduced a new or potentially new God to Pathfinder. However, since this scenario we haven't had any more information regarding the Muted God (that I am aware of).

Anyway, since the Muted God was originally introduced in Pathfinder Society Organized Play I thought it would be fun in future scenarios if the Muted God was explored a little more. Also, the Muted God has a very occult feel and the whole is or isn't the Muted God a real god or not would be a fun background mystery that could run throughout several scenarios and seasons. Everybody loves a mystery!

Think about it, you have a potential God of Silence who ascended through the Test of the Starstone, but with a god of absolute silence it would be difficult to connect with that god. Silencing the voice is fairly reasonable but what about silencing the senses, the mind, the body, eventually you could become completely undetectable, but at the same time you may end up losing your ability to interact with the world around you. Just an idea.

Interesting idea. My impression is that the Muted God did indeed fail his test, but if he succeeded, he would be a solid occult god. Maybe a psychic or psychic/monk in life? And now that I think about it, there aren't really any established psychic gods. A few of the Eldest, Great Old Ones/Elder Gods, and Empyreal Lords have an occult vibe, but none scream "this is the god of psychic magic." I strongly suspect such a god exists in places like Vudra, for whatever that's worth.

I totally hear you, I thought that the Muted God might be a failed god at first but reviewing what little there is about the Muted God it's not clear. Below I have quoted some of the evidence from "The Hands of the Muted God" scenario. For me there is a strong sense of did he or didn't he ascend. There is a cult that worships the Muted God. There is a Demon Lord that actively opposes his worshipers, the Muted God has at least one sacred site, during the scenario his worshipers have "easy access to powerful magic" and if they lose that access they go back to being "a cult without easy access to powerful magic" just like other clerics that gain access to powerful magic slowly and over time through faith. So God or not God? Its such a great mystery!

"Unbeknownst to any, the Muted God had in fact mastered the Final Incantation’s reverse: a powerword made of perfect silence which calls forth magic in a primal font of incredible potency. This font was discovered a year and a half ago by agents of the Hands of the Muted God..."

"...cave of the Zero Incantation..." "...before entering the caverns of the Muted God’s sanctuary..."

"He spoke then of a cult called the Hands of the Muted God—a strange order of silent penitents worshiping one of those who presumably failed the Test of the Starstone..." "The Muted God was going to be a god of quietude, and his cult still dwells in the Puddles district of the city, spoken of in recent months by many as growing in influence and power."

"Has this cult, perhaps, found some vestige of their would-be deity’s power after so many years of silence, or has the Muted God truly ascended? If silence is his speech, then would not his Ascendance have been heralded with silence?"

"...the Hands of the Muted God stop being a subtle, underground cult with easy access to powerful magic and return to their roots as a subtle, underground cult without easy access to powerful magic."

The Muted God is

Spoiler:
remembered in the Shrine of the Failed,

but that's not necessarily conclusive. It just means it's generally believed that he failed the test.

Isn't great! There is nothing that is conclusive in the scenario and it's a fun mystery that would be enjoyable to see explored, even if we never get a solid answer.

The Muted God seems something of a narrative Schrodinger's cat, in which the deity might or might not be a deity for having failed or not failed the Test of the Starstone; we don't know until we find out. Half of the fun is not knowing the real answer, so it strikes me that following up on the Muted God further would diminish the sense of wonder and mystery.

Perhaps there's more to be done with that figure, but I think there's a narrow range of storylines that would properly preserve that mystery while teasing at his actual status and abilities.

Agreed, I was thinking it would be fun to have random bits of information scattered throughout senarios that would deepen the mystery. Not much information and no solid answer just a little mention every once in a while to play up the mystery.
