Empathic Link With A Construct

Advice

Okay, so I am making a Wyrwood wizard, and thought it would be handy and flavorful to give the little construct a familiar. Then I realized that this particular race is emotionless unless you take that alternate race trait that allows them to have emotions.

How would the empathic link work? Would it?

The wizard would still know his familiar's emotions; the link lets you sense them, not experience them. The familiar won't pick up anything from the wyrwood, of course.

Ah, I had thought that might be the case. That could add all sorts of character depth for my GM to play with there. Thanks, Fuzzy-Wuzzy!

generally there are senses, instincts, trained responses, feelings, emotions, and thought (that is a great simplification). There is feedback so everything is not mutually exclusive.

Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar to a 1 mile distance. The master can communicate empathically with the familiar, but cannot see through its eyes. Because of the link's limited nature, only general emotions can be shared. The master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does.

so the master should be able to feel the emotional state that his familiar is in.
You could have them take improved familiar and use a homunculus or soulbound doll...
