Staples raised prices?!!

Used to be 19.99 to print a poster-size 24x36 (works perfectly well for the 24x30 PFS standard). Now 29.99?!! Is this just my staples or everywhere? Fedex office is even worse at > 40 each. WTF?

I'm always a bit ghetto. When I've printed stuff, I just print it on my own printer, cut off the edges, and tape the maps together.

More effort, doesn't look as good... but is cheaper and doesn't require a trip.

(More often, I'll just draw maps if I don't have the right Map Pack or FlipMat.)

I only look to Staples or Kinkos for major conventions. Cyzzane and I have picked up a laminator and gotten good at printing to scale and trimming the sheets for taping together.

Looks like Office Depot will still do posters for $20 and has free shipping over $35? Guess I'll be ordering from them in the future instead of picking up at my local staples.

Local office max will not print on demand, they want like 48 hours for a scenario...

Like i plan that far in advance...

I do the same.

I just secretly print the whole lot at work

Yep. Same price hike here! I've been using them to print the large maps as well. Same or next day pick up is very convienent.

Side note: When I have two or more custom maps to print for a scenario I usually go with the 2 feet by 6 feet indoor banner and either cut them out or just roll ithe whole thing across the table. The indoor banner is a different material then posters, but it's $35 for the 2x6.

Nice to know, that's two full size maps and room for a smaller one as well. How's the paper quality for the banners?

My fedex will do it for 9.99
Weird.

As far as Staples goes, you can actually have them printed as Engineering Prints, you lose the ability for laminations, but you can get a 24x36 for 5.89. (I just ordered a map for Scion of the Sky Key for this price.)

The best part is that if you have a program like Publisher, you can easily combine multiple small maps into one to save money.

The 48x36 (largest size) is about $12-13 after tax.

I've lost three Staples locations in Mesa these past few months. It sounds like the chain might not be making profits, hence the raise in prices.

$5.89 seems a great price for a 24X36 print. Is that color?

EDIT: Answer => yes.

Guess I'll check that out next time. I'm sure not paying 30 for it.

If you have a Staples Rewards card you can often gets things for cheaper and get back coupons depending on how much you spend during the cycle.

Edit: nevermind, this conversation is happening here.

Are there any copyright concerns taking these maps to a print shop to reproduce for personal use? Or printing the scenarios?

I understand the Paizo may not be concerned but I'm curious what RAW is. Especially for when the print shop starts asking.

One personal copy should be fine.

That Engineering Print tip is really good, gets you a decent map very affordably

October was 20% back in rewards. I managed $25 in rewards because of that.

(I was buying the maps for Strange Aeons, which I had to split into 4 prints of the 48x36 variety.)

I use Scribus for putting things together myself. Problem is... Paizo's been locking down the art on their latest PDFs, preventing clean extraction.

And probably going to go away if it's abused in this manner enough.

Engineering prints are typically much much lower in coverage percentage. Plenty of engineering portions are done on plotters, and printing maps like ours can actually damage a print head.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. I'm just suggesting that one shouldn't be surprised if they end the loophole.
