Adventure Paths converted to 5e D&D

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

Now that Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne have been updated to Pathfinder Rules. In very nice hardcovers...
How about the same treatment. But converting to D&D 5th edition? That way Paizo gets another revenue generator, and access to another gamer crowd.

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

Personally I don't play D&D anymore, ever, so I'd rather they didn't encourage it's growth.

It's probably not worth the hassle wrangling over who'd own what, who'd get what profit share, etc. Paizo in particular would probably be wary of dealing with Hasbro and Wizards again after they had the rights to publish Dungeon and Dragon pulled out from under them.

I'm slowly, but surely converting my Runelords and Crimson Throne campaign from Pathfinder to 5E. While I purchased Curse of Strahd and Storm King's Thunder, I think I will continue to play Paizo's APs. Paizo is definitely without peer in the story, art, and production quality departments.

With that being said, players seem to greatly enjoy 5E for its sleek, streamlined game mechanics and its emphasis on roleplaying. I personally like how the game feels like the 2E campaigns of my youth without the unnecessarily arcane mechanics (Thac0, etc). Combat is MUCH faster and smoother in both campaigns under the new system. The concentration spell mechanic and magic item atunement mechanic also reduce the the "Christmas tree" effect and the amount of bookkeeping required to keep track of everyone's buffs and stat-boosting items. This is especially true at high levels (my Crimson Throne campaign is in its final chapter).

Of course, YMMV. My groups consist of high schoolers new to tabletop roleplaying (Runelords), and college students/working professionals with varying levels of tabletop experience (Crimson Throne).

well that is not as a bad idea as the most here think. Buuuuuuuuuuut, you dont need to convert anything form the APs!

if you are playing 5th, or dming, just throw any monster from any bestiary as it is in PF to your party without any change, you will enjoy how the game mecanics flow with smooth phase with the mix of rules

While 5th edition has an SRD now, and Paizo sells 5th edition books on their site, I doubt Paizo will do anything with 5th edition unless Pathfinder declines by a huge percentage and they want to keep making stuff for something that people will play. I don't see this happening anytime soon.

It's rather "easy" to convert it yourself. All you need to do is reduce some DCs, and convert over a few monsters (doesn't take long at all). It's the same with any adventure modules from previous editions of D&D.

I'd be with you if my players would let me run 5E....

If this did happen id hope paizo would outsource it. I dont want them taking time and energy away from PF.

It's really unlikely Paizo would convert any of their APs over from their own brand system. If you want to play Runelords or CotCT (or really any Paizo AP) in 5th edition, I suggest converting them yourself. 5th edition is incredibly simple to do that with! My suggestion, check out WotC's official conversion guide for older editions to 5th edition. Hopefully this helps!

Unfortunately, with their conversion guide, it basically says "Eyeball it". There are no hard and fast conversion rules like 3.0-3.5 or 3.5 to Pathfinder.

Castles & Crusades by Troll Lord Games has done so.

I can't imagine Paizo doing this at all, but it would be wonderful to find conversions online. So far I've looked and found nothing. I've converted some Kingmaker characters already myself, but am starting to wonder which would be more worth it: just run the PF stat blocks knowing that no matter how much I prepare, I am going to miss something. Or, spend the time now doing it, since I won't be running this AP until after I finish The current.

I have found this online converter. It does a decent job, but the CRs end up being way off.

Of the two systems, I prefer Pathfinder. But I did pick up the 5E core books because I'd heard D&D came back from the 4E nosedive. And, if 5E was all there was to play... I wouldn't hate it. But luckily, it's not. So I can stay geeked out with my nose in Golarion supplements written for PFRPG rules.

That being said, story is what's most important to me. Whether it's playing Pathfinder in Golarion, 5E D&D in Forgotten Realms... or playing 5E D&D in Golarion and Pathfinder in Forgotten Realms. Or Pathfinder in Eberron. Or.. you get the point.
These Adventure Paths are so great, storywise, that I'm sure if people want to convert them to 5E, they'd still have a great time.

It's not going to happen. They're fully booked, overbooked with just supporting Pathfinder. Splitting your focus is an excellent way to go down TSR's path to ruin.

By that same logic, Wizards could be converting their material to Pathfinder, but you're not going to see that happen for the same reason.

Yea. TSR didn't go under because of poor sales. In fact, at the time, D&D was selling more than it ever had. They went south due to poor business decisions.
There is plenty of 3rd party support for PFRPG and 5E alike (e.g. Kobold Press). And just as it's fairly simple to run old 1E and 2E adventures for Pathfinder, it's likely not an insurmountable task to run Paizo Adventure Paths using 5E rules. Just takes a bit of prep on the GM's part. And having books of pre-generated NPCs helps immensely with that.
