Psychic Investigator w / quarterstaff - support character

Advice

I was wondering if someone could please give me advice on a new character I am making

I am making a reborn samsaran psychic investigator who will be a support character who will use a sword-staff (longer version of sword cane). I like the visual of swinnging around a staff...even though I know it isn't a great weapon.

We will have a party consisting of 2 barbarians, magus, monk, a healing oriented cleric & a multi-class bard .....so we will have enough damage dealers with the 3 tanks.

I want to use the sword staff more for support, aiding or combat maneuvers. I will have a 14 STR, 16 Dex, 16 Int.

Any advice how to do so with a staff? thank you in advance for any advice

If you're really not pressed for combat prowess, there's definitely a lot of potential for Effortless Aid and Inspirational Expertise (and the new Studied Expertise Feat from haunted Heroes' handbook).

I'm guessing the sword-staff is a double weapon? I'm not hugely familiar with how to play those well. Unless you took a swashbuckler dip for Opportune Parry, in which case an answering enchantment on the offhand side would be pretty handy. That doesn't seem to fit your build, however.

Honestly, though? With a bard in the party and a double weapon, you can go pretty ham with Studied Combat + Two-Weapon Fighting. Inspirational Expertise along with the +4 Insight Bonus on attacks on top of all that... that's crazy.

You might even get to use invisibility to get into full attacking position before combat. Drop in, swift action to +4 for everyone and go ham on the poor fool. Since Bard buffs are competence and morale, it totally stacks.

I built a staff wielding investigator (Empiricist) with some success. I was a human and went with the dual talent racial option (+2 to to stats). Wtih a 20 point buy they looked like this:

S: 18 (16+2) D: 15 C: 12 I: 16 (14+2) W: 10 C: 7

Feats: Two weapon fighting (1st level)
Power attack (3rd level)

The idea was when I could full attack I would use the staff as dual weapon. When I could only get a single attack I would use power attack. Between Mutagen, Studied strike/combat, and alchemical buffs I was hitting and smashing things pretty well.

As far as your build goes if you are going to use a staff I would make strength higher than your dex and pick medium armor proficiency at 5th level. Also, I would stick with a regular quarter staff as you can put the inspired magical weapon quality on it.

I'd swap Str and Dex and just go with two-handed weapon use. Grab Medium Armor Proficiency to help with AC, Power Attack at 3rd, and you'll actually be a solid damage dealer on top of everything else you can do.

what about taking Dirty Fighting Style , switch my DEX & STR as recommended & focus on flanking to blind targets that my tanks are fighting? that can give bonuses to hit to my tanks for the blindness

then take Improved Dirty Trick at 3rd.

I want to stick with my light armor (I will be the party rogue)

I will have psychic Spells so I can boost my AC with Shield.
