Can a PC make a str check to break another free from web?

Rules Questions

Pretty much what it says.

I have the impression it's plausible, but i want to be sure.

1 PC has been webbed by a spider. The str check to burst free is 12.

Another PC made a str check and passed the DC.
Can he break him free this way, or can that only be treated as an aid another, and the webbed PC must still make the check to burst free?

RAW? It'd be aid another, as it says that the trapped PC has to make the Strength check to burst the web at a -4 penalty and nowhere does it say that someone can make this on their behalf.

In practical or houserule terms, yeah, it'd be silly if you couldn't break someone out of a web like that, because someone would eventually be paying the action cost even if it isn't the trapped PC.

Yeah...PFS, so then it will have to be Raw.

of course you can free him without him needing to do anything. slash the webs and cut him free, pull them off him, shoot him with a fire spell or lighting the webs with a torch will remove them. seriously they are just webs there are lots of options to remove them. just because you can't do the 12 str check to burst free for him doesn't mean you can't still free him on your turn some other way.
