Scribe Fluff for Investigator's Alchemy

Homebrew and House Rules

Hey all, I am building a tomb raider / Indiana Jones style character and after much deliberation have decided on a Investigator build. The only problem is that Alchemy doesn't fit the RP I'm shooting for at all. I wanted the character to be very good at UMD, often using scrolls and wands that he's found from his tomb raiding.

So my idea was that, rather than create extracts, the Investigator could quickly scribble scrolls instead. Mechanically, I don't want to change anything. Does anyone see any potential issues with this? I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

I didn't have trouble when I did it, though it was a one-shot so I didn't have long for issues to surface.

My first thought is to look into the Sleuth archetype rather than creating something new since Sleuth's Luck and deeds suits the Indiana Jones style.

Yeah I definitely considered that. Especially because I am taking a 1-level dip into swashbuckler, so I already have a panache pool. It just seems like a very serious hit to the classes power. Do you have any experience using the archetype?

So you did something similar? I figured I could fluff it as quickly scribbling some runes or magic words onto the paper and then reading it or burning it or "consuming it" or something to take the place of drinking.

If Occult classes are allowed, there's also an archetype for the Investigator giving them Psychic magic instead of Alchemy, which gives them actual casting to power wands and scrolls.
