Session #57 was submitted today. There's a couple sessions which have problems (submitted, twice, link isn't going anywhere, etc.), but that's a very small number. I'm super impressed by the turn-out, especially for The Sky Key Solution. And there's still plenty of time to sign up!
I wanted to take a moment to talk about 7-98 and 7-99. I noticed that some people had already started creating games for them. I thank you for your enthusiasm, but I please ask that you don't have any games starting right at the beginning. I would like the special focus to be on 7-00 at the start, and I'm hesisitant to start scheduling 7-98 and 7-99 until we see how they run at Gencon. There have been plenty of people emailing me as per the instructions, and I've been saving that. Once Gencon is done and I finish converting 7-00 for PbP, you will hear more about the other specials!
Keep being awesome!

Soooo many specials. Only 2 others I can play. Any one looking to GM and would consider a mostly wizard table please PM me I have a bunch wanting to trade spells & we may as well take advantage of GameDay V :).
If any other games open up (any tier except seeker), please let me know.
I'm planning on doing some things, but just waiting for more information before I do, or decide on games. But, I wouldn't mind. I know I've already gotten 3 folks that have already "reserved" seats for this Game Day since the last one ended, :P, so we might need to keep that in mind if you already have other player's too. How many are there?
But, I'll pretty much be open to run whatever.

I'm going to use the game day as an excuse to try my hand at pbp GMing.
I'm also going to promote the game day with my local lodge and see if I can pull in some new pbp players too!
Once i have a head count from local players i'll set up the game and then open up any remaining spaces to anyone else who wants to join in.
This should be fun! :D

Two questions:
1. Is everybody organizing their tables now, even though it doesn't start for another month? I'm going to GenCon next week, so I'm too busy prepping and going to that right now to think about this yet. But after that, I'll want to get in on this PbP event.
2. Are we allowed to both play and GM the multi-table special at the same time? I already played it at GenCon last year and GMed it locally. But I'd like to GM it again, and maybe play it Core this time, if someone has a low level Core table.
1. I'm sure that some people, like you, are waiting until after GenCon. There's only a little over 60 tables registered now. We had 180+ last year, so I suspect that many people are waiting until after GenCon!
2. Yes, you can both play and run in the special. There are several Core tables already to register for, but most still list as open seats on the PBP Gameday Site.
Other GMs, if your tables fill, please respond to your reservation email for your table and let Jesse and James* know that your table is full.
Hmm
* Jesse James. Yee haw!

I'm honestly just waiting for more information, as well as to see where I can best be used. I could care less about GenCon.

Just curious, especially for the Game Day events, I like to open the Discussion thread up early, both to gather all of the players and characters, have a chance to casually look over characters, and introduce everyone. No actual game play, though I do try to open the Game Play thread for "dotting only".
Is that what you are referring to, or is that an issue?
I'm being more hypothetical here, as I'm waiting to even register a game yet.

I'm always surprised by the ability of GenCon to basically derail the universe and stop global gaming...
Yeah, the sort of people who go to GenCon also tend to be hardcore GMs (not only in reallife but also in PbP!) Just about every hardcore GM that I know locally is frantically prepping scenarios for GenCon this year. There's no surprise that those GMing at GenCon don't have much bandwidth to spare right now.

Hey, Beckett, I asked a similar question and got an answer from James. You're cool if you limit it to light pre-game RP.
Hmm

I think James is specifically talking about the specials. One is the first session, the others are for the second session which doesn't start until September. No games should start before the first date. Starting a discussion thread sounds OK to me (what's been done in the past).

Let me clarify what I mean for a moment.
- I'm only talking about 7-98 and 7-99.
- I'm asking that unlike every other scenario, we hold off on mustering them for now until we get feedback from Gencon as to how they run and what requirements are for running them.
- For those that are already out, your games should not be scheduled to start before the beginning of Slot 2.
As Hmm posted, you are free to create Discussion threads ahead of time, chat with other players, do a bit of pre-scenario role playing, etc.
As to Hmm's slideshow question, uh... I hadn't thought about it yet. I've been nose deep in Gencon prep - when I come home from that I basically turn into PbP Gameday prep. The problem is dealing with legal issues and what I'm allowed to do with Paizo's artwork. I _know_ that I can create a Roll20 campaign and share a copy to each GM that wants it, but I also know that Roll20 isn't as mobile friendly as Google Sheets, so I'll see if I can finagle another way to help GMs prep things.
Cause really, if I have a personal mission, it's that I try to make it easier for GMs to run. So we'll see what I can do. But that's not happening for another week. (Holy crap I leave for Gencon in 4 days!)

James --
I've created a slideshow already, I just haven't created the "paper" to cover the maps up. If you like I can share the link in here once I've added the shapes to obscure the maps? That way GMs can copy my slideshow if they want to do so for their own campaigns? This was a boatload of maps to extract from the scenario. I'm more than willing to share.
Hmm
EDITED to ADD:
Sky Key Solution Slide Show with maps covered up.

You should maybe remove that. It's a question of if sharing of a slideshow with Paizo material falls under the OGL or not. Permission has been given previously for Roll20 tables as they do not end up being publicly available.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, it's not a question of doing the work, it's a question of legality. Roll20 has ownership controls that Paizo is okay with, but not every program has those same ownership controls.
(I realize that a lot of PbP games use google slides already, but as an online VO, if I'm going to advocate sharing materials, I need to make sure that I'm toeing the line.)

Some Games are listed on the Session List as Closed. How do I list my game as closed now that's it's full?

![]() |

Other GMs, if your tables fill, please respond to your reservation email for your table and let Jesse and James* know that your table is full.
AND
Respond back to Jesse with your confirmation email and tell him it's closed.
I didn't get such an email. Yet my game is now full.

Did you get the confirmation email when you submitted your game?
If you did, respond to that.
(If you did not get it, check your SPAM, and then PM me and we'll forward it to you if you do not find it.)
Soon you will be able to edit your own sessions - but we do not have that turned on right now.

We do have an opening at that level over on Myth-Weavers; see our current recruitment advertisement.

Did you not enjoy playing pbp or the special?
If the former, my suggestion would be to give it another try, see if it was the group or DM, or even the scenario, and if you still dont like it, you can ask to dip out or take a back seat till the end.
If its the Special, such as too combat focused, not enough story or RP, too fast paced, etc, I imagine it will be similar here this time, and you would probably have the same feelings, as thats kind of how they are designed to work.

I wonder if I should try again playing this time .-. I don't really remember having very good time last time.
Many of the multi-table specials are mostly about combat*. If what you love is the roleplay, choose something to play other than multi-table specials.
Hmm
____
* That said, Sky Key Solution has some potential for roleplay if your table is both up for it and fast-paced.

pbp. I applied to two different beginner pbps, in other one I had fun but once it came time to choose which out of dozen players got chosen, I got dropped out because apparently my roleplaying/writing felt odd or something to gm and in second one nobody of players really roleplayed much. Plus its slow, very slow.

Hmm. Kind of on the fence here on whether I should still apply to run a table or not. I'd be interested in running Serpents' Rise/Ire if there's need for more tables of those - seems there's only two tables of the latter and one of them is Core.
Alternatively, I was just Overseer GM for The Sky Key Solution, so that's also an option...

Most of the Serpent's Ire tables haven't posted yet as they have been asked to wait until after GenCon to do so.

Ah, yes. Unfortunately some GMs go with a roll off, or criteria they are looking for in choosing players. On the other hand, some go with a first come, first served approach, and it really just depends on if they note this in the posts, or your luck in finding games. Personally, I hate applying for games and not being sure if I am in or not, because it means I can't dedicate that character to another game or something, but it's not assured.
As for the pacing, it's both a good and bad thing, and it really does come down to your preferences. Some <PbP> games are much faster paced than others, though this is just as dependent on the players and group as the DM. Generally speaking, a typical game will run, from start to finish about 1 month to 6 weeks. Being so slow does have some benefits though, as it allows you to check in and play daily, watch the story unfold at a slower past can also make it feel more special.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm a huge fan of first come first served, and I hate roll-offs as both a player and a gm.
Most of the time people get a spot though (if they want one) as I tend to run batches and create a bit of space (4x WBG4 running now) - or I just made 15 tables available (Year of the Shadow Lodge) because I want as many people able to have fun as possible.
Only you can know if this is your bag though, but try not to base your decisions on two tables of lower end content. Different GM's have different styles, and pick up groups are a wildly varying terrain - some are hot, some are annoying. If you find a GM you like, follow that GM and sign up on their sheets.
I love gaming with DM Feral, for example, but in honesty the games are run at a million miles an hour (which suite me fine) and he's even shirtier and more dismissive than I am when annoyed (which is some effort) - some people hate it, I love it.
I've been in other groups that were slower than a rainy Wednesday and couldn't wait for the thing to end - and then watched other players say they felt 'rushed'. Same thing happened in the YotSL multi - everyone was on the same timer, and the jets were like "Hey Mr Overseer, were done here bro, having the weekend off, let us know when others catch up kthxbye~!" and then I had other groups complain it was all 'way too fast'.
Like face to face, you just need to find your groove - but not one of us can answer your "should I bother question". It's up to you mate, not up to us to sell it to you - don't like it, don't eat it, but for a lot of us it's fine - I just think you were in the wrong groups.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yup. I get accused of being too fast a lot, but have slowed down a game before to suit the needs of the players. I prefer the multiple posts/day approach but only require 1/day for my games.
My first game was Infernal Vault, which finished in 2 weeks. My second game was Trouble in Tamran and lasted 3 months. I wanted to run both at the same pace but the players weren't having it for the 2nd one, which isn't a problem, though. I enjoyed both tables thoroughly. But just saying it's not just the GM, although the GM pace does play a big part. It's a total group dynamic, really.

Note that I got back from Gencon yesterday (no plane troubles here, just a road trip with my SO), so I'll be updating everything today. Just a reminder that if you want your game to be included in the first round of scenario drops, you need to get it in today. (I'll be submitting the list in a couple hours)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

D'oh! Here I have been procrastinating... now I have to get my crap together before the next couple of hours elapse.
(Edit: I feel a bit like an idiot for getting all rushed. I already own the scenario I'm running, so it doesn't matter. Still, good to get my butt in enough gear to actually list the scenario. Had to do it sometime!)

I started a GM thread for the 7-00 PbP Special. I'm sure we all have questions, let's discuss them.
